Pleather leggings?

cardamomginger · 21/12/2014 11:14

Inspired by the leather leggings thread started by sun, yet gulping at the prices of real leather leggings, can anyone recommend pleather leggings? I'm 5 ft 7, a size 8, and pear shaped. In jeans I am a 25-27, depending on cut and brand.

I occasionally follow Bum40 Lady and her trials and tribulations with pleatehr leggings make them sound to be one of the hardest garments to get right in terms of fit, durability (hers seem to split at the seam) and not going baggy. Is this right?

Also, I am 43. I am deluding myself... Is this going to be my version of a red convertible sports car....?

I have 2 pairs from H&M, which fit me better than my TopShop ones (although they are slightly better quality)

These tablet.hm.com/gb/product/26132?article=26132-A

Plus these tablet.hm.com/gb/product/42687?article=42687-B

They have lots of others. I like them, as a look.

pictish · 21/12/2014 11:22

No...just no. I have seen a couple of people wearing them, and I'm afraid to say I do not think they look good, but rather odd and curious...like "what's wrong with her legs?...Oh it's wet look leggings...righto."

makingdoo · 21/12/2014 11:23

I bought a pair in New Look last week and I'm very impressed as they where under £20!

They are pleather at the front and then a thick stretchy material at the back. They are also high waisted which suits my size 12-14 figure. They are very comfy to wear.

pictish · 21/12/2014 11:24

Ack - the ones that are half pleather, half lycra are even worse.
Sorry guys - they look awful.

pictish · 21/12/2014 11:26

It's a bad fashion. A look-back-and-cringe one.
Don't do it to yourself. Really.

cardamomginger · 21/12/2014 11:34

Pictish - Grin. I'm wondering about the cringe factor!
Thanks Belinda and Making.

Honestly - I am seldom moved to air a negative opinion on people's personal taste in clothes, as I feel that people should wear whatever they fancy, and to hang with age appropriateness and so on...

But on this one I must firmly state no. I don't know what people who wear these leggings see when they put them on, but I am certain it is not what I see when I look at them.
They are nasty.

I disagree. They are not nasty. Also, the pleather ones are polyutherane, which means that they have a vinyl coating, giving them a matte appearance. Some of them are hard to tell from leather.

Wet look leggings are, a bit like what Olivia Newton John wore in Grease. They are shiny polyester. Totally different look, and definitely quite nasty.

Belinda - me like!!! Are they random anonymous pictures, or of specific products?

OP posts:
pictish · 21/12/2014 11:54

Yes...and that reed thin airbrushed model is an excellent representation of how they actually look on real people.
Not.

Let me assure you - they do not look like that on you.

pictish · 21/12/2014 11:55

Or, in fact, anyone.

noddyholder · 21/12/2014 11:56

I have a pair of coated jeggings £16 from peacocks and have people asking me all the time where I got my leather skinnies! best ones I have ever had or seen

noddyholder · 21/12/2014 11:58

They look like that on me and loads of people I see

noddyholder · 21/12/2014 11:59

www.peacocks.co.uk/lds-jegging-coated-skinny-85605.html better irl very matt and natural looking and really comfy not too much give more like skinnies than leggings

BelindaAllWorkedOut · 21/12/2014 12:10

Cardamom they are Pinterest pics. Here's how the H&M £15 ones look on me. Will I look back and cringe? Maybe. But life's too short to be too tasteful all the time Smile

They look great on you and they are not bad taste at all!

dexter73 · 21/12/2014 12:17

You look awesome Belinda! I might have to sneak a quick trip to H&M tomorrow!

cardamomginger · 21/12/2014 12:19

Wow Belinda!! Think I will be paying a visit to H&M too Grin.

BelindaAllWorkedOut · 21/12/2014 12:21

Thanks, Noddy. Let's just say, though, that I don't exactly look like that right this minute Grin.

MeganChips · 21/12/2014 12:22

They look great on you.

I like them as a look but on me I'd be scared of looking like a guest on Loose Women.

BelindaAllWorkedOut · 21/12/2014 12:24

Thanks Dexter and Cardamom, too. They are from the Divided section, and are a small cut. I'm wearing a size 10 and couldn't go down a size if my life depended on it. They have quite a few diff ones in H&M, all cut differently.

BelindaAllWorkedOut · 21/12/2014 12:29

Megan, you can wear them casually, too. I do. Like the Pinterest photos, or like this pic.
