Pleather leggings?

cardamomginger · 21/12/2014 11:14

Inspired by the leather leggings thread started by sun, yet gulping at the prices of real leather leggings, can anyone recommend pleather leggings? I'm 5 ft 7, a size 8, and pear shaped. In jeans I am a 25-27, depending on cut and brand.

I occasionally follow Bum40 Lady and her trials and tribulations with pleatehr leggings make them sound to be one of the hardest garments to get right in terms of fit, durability (hers seem to split at the seam) and not going baggy. Is this right?

Also, I am 43. I am deluding myself... Is this going to be my version of a red convertible sports car....?

I love them on other people and in a moment of madness ordered a pair. Unfortunately I resembled a large black pudding link so I whipped them off and gave myself a good talking to Grin

my friend has riverisland ones honey they are very good but too short for me

ElizabethHoover · 23/12/2014 11:56

i have next ones, good but prefer the New look ones that are a bit more jeans like and wearable all year around www.newlook.com/shop/womens/jeans/black-coated-super-skinny-jeans-_310550301 here.

I wore last night with these most gorgeous shoes that, sadly, i only get to wear twice a year or so

I just think of them as extreme (and possibly sweaty) skinnies. Please tell me what I'm missing!

DialsMavis · 23/12/2014 16:18

If I had the legs for them I would get some, I think they look great. But I would like a sausage in a bin bag. I keep meaning to try some on, so I can get upset and then berate myself for being greedy and feel enormous for the rest of the week.

noddyholder · 23/12/2014 16:19

Mine are very much jeans Only ever wear during the day

Floisme · 23/12/2014 16:28

Are they any more flattering than ordinary skinnies though? I know I could just go and try some for myself but I don't want to drag my sorry arse into a changing room if I'm only going to run away screaming.

noddyholder · 23/12/2014 16:45

They look exactly the same on me tbh I had a shiny pair a few years ago which weren't so flattering. The ones I have now are just matt with a look of old leather

Floisme · 23/12/2014 16:49

OK I'm going to try some - I'm curious now Grin

ElizabethHoover · 23/12/2014 17:00

They are less flattering. I have Amazibv Legs. (Vain but true) and even I have to be careful with them.

noddyholder · 23/12/2014 17:04

I weirdly find them no different but they aren't stretchy ones

noddyholder · 23/12/2014 17:08

Do you mean careful with the top?

BelindaAllWorkedOut · 23/12/2014 17:28

BTW I wore these Office Gilly shoes w my pleathers and they are now £36 www.office.co.uk/view/product/office_catalog/2,33/1858600079

Elizabeth - I love those Zara shoes - like exploding stars coming off your toes. Just fab. I also have the New Look coated skinnies - v flattering, but do find my pleathers to look slightly different.

ElizabethHoover · 23/12/2014 21:15

No. Just thighs.

Floisme · 23/12/2014 23:32

It's the thighs that worry me Elizabeth. I can get away with skinny jeans because they're so mainstream now that nobody really looks at them any more but I think I'll be pushing my luck with pleathers. I'm going to have to have a try though.

Sunmakesmesmile · 24/12/2014 09:44

I love them and think with the right fit and matt finish they look great, so much so I've invested in a real pair. I've got a faux pair from Next which are not bad at all and thankfully long enough. In the name of research I tried on a couple of pairs in H&M yesterday should have been buying last minute presents was quite impressed. They are small fitting as Belinda said, I tried on a 10 and I'm normally 8. They were a bit short on me, otherwise would have been tempted. I also tried on a pair in mint velvet which were 3x the price of the H&M ones and also some Michael Kors ones which were over £100 and I'd say the H&M were much better!

cardamomginger · 24/12/2014 10:20

Thanks for doing the research sun! Hope your leather ones are gorgeous!

Belinda- you look amazing. Seriously hot.

areyoubeingserviced · 24/12/2014 14:03

Amber - you also look amazing

noddyholder · 24/12/2014 14:25

If you don't do heels with them (I don't!) you still can wear in the day media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/14/e5/1d/14e51dc9e82f4cc4c8d12124135ecdbd.jpg andmedia-cache-ec0.pinimg.com/736x/d7/f3/26/d7f32608be5d476cbe8ce7639f10a79f.jpg is how I wear mine

ElizabethHoover · 24/12/2014 14:33

lol boots woman looks like sideshow bob

cardamomginger · 24/12/2014 14:40

The burgundy look nice frugal. I had dismissed them, but your board has changed my mind - especially if I think of them as merlot!!
