Pleather leggings?

cardamomginger · 21/12/2014 11:14

Inspired by the leather leggings thread started by sun, yet gulping at the prices of real leather leggings, can anyone recommend pleather leggings? I'm 5 ft 7, a size 8, and pear shaped. In jeans I am a 25-27, depending on cut and brand.

I occasionally follow Bum40 Lady and her trials and tribulations with pleatehr leggings make them sound to be one of the hardest garments to get right in terms of fit, durability (hers seem to split at the seam) and not going baggy. Is this right?

Also, I am 43. I am deluding myself... Is this going to be my version of a red convertible sports car....?

Go for it and ignore the naysayers! If you like them it doesn't matter what other people think! I have a pleather front and Lycra back one from mint velvet and they look fab! You can dress them down and not look too fashiony/overdressed too

mowglik · 21/12/2014 12:46

Sorry too many exclamation marks took me 5 min to write that due to narky toddler :/

Ujjayi · 21/12/2014 13:02

OP, I am same age & I love wearing mine. I have these H&M . My DH is very conservative & even he thinks they look great.

I wear mine with oversized knits, slouchy tops etc.

BTW, I once posted a photo of myself in said trousers & the MN jury declared Yay rather than Nay Wink

ElizabethHoover · 21/12/2014 13:03

pretty blouse blinners

Angelhairscruff · 21/12/2014 13:06

I don't have the figure for them
But I do love the look. Belinda you look fantastic in those

pictish · 21/12/2014 13:23

Belinda it is fair to say you look really good in them.
It is also fair to say that most people do not.

FrugalFashionista · 21/12/2014 13:41

Belinda you converted me about a month ago.

I love the pleather H&M ones. Polyurethane is sometimes present in jeans and children's rainwear is made of polyurethane. The leggings are matte and have a felted backing and feel comfy - my only gripe is that they are a bit cold.

My children call them 'chocolate pants' (burgundy, natch)

I wore them recently when I gave a workshop to a bunch of twentysomething guys and they seemed enthusiastic Wink The dominatrix vibe is not necessarily a bad thing Wink

AmberNectarine · 21/12/2014 15:20

I look like this in mine. I'm definitely not reed thin and I think I look ok!

Thanks guys. I think I shall investigate and then maybe put it to the MN jury (and if you think I look ghastly pictish, I shall listen to you!).

Amber - which pleathers do you have? If those are the HL leather ones you mentioned on the other thread, that is cheating!! Wink

ElizabethHoover · 21/12/2014 16:41

they are just skinnyjeans

AmberNectarine · 21/12/2014 16:52

Yes those are the HLs. Was just for the look. However I do have a Zara pleather pair which are very good, better than the M&S leather front ones by a long stretch.

GeorginaWorsley · 21/12/2014 17:34

Love the pinterest pics above.
I've got coated skinniest from Dorothy Perkins and Warehouse and I love them.
I wear with mushroom grey silk shirt and heels for going out and with cream or grey soft jumpers in daytime layered over white long sleeve tees or white vests.
I wear black heeled ankle boots from Autograph that I bought off eBay lady year after they were recommended on here by a prolific name changerWink
Or with black leather Ash style trainers.

bettykt · 21/12/2014 18:02

I think you should give them a go. They're pretty reasonable and if you hate them then you can always take them back.

Big thread gate crash now Blush Belinda where is your black cross body bag from in the casual picture? That's just the type of bag I'm looking for.

cardamomginger · 21/12/2014 18:09

Amber - they are lush! Happy birthday and enjoy!

I use H&M have some from Urban Outfitters
I am highly partial to waxed skinnies/jeggings which might be an easier sell if needs be

BelindaAllWorkedOut · 21/12/2014 20:26

Thanks for the nice comments. Betty my bag is an old mock croc leather bag from M&S. The nearest I can think of is the Hobbs Brunswick - have you looked at that?

MyFancyPants · 21/12/2014 21:10

Oohh Lovely Belinda I might need to make a trip to H&M! I'm 5'8 do you think they'd be too short on me?

BelindaAllWorkedOut · 21/12/2014 21:13

They should be fine. I am 5'4", but my legs are long (thus, short torso). I usually tuck mine under as I prefer my trousers slightly cropped.

Honeydragon · 21/12/2014 21:14

I tried some on on a whim after the last thread, and was astonished how good they looked Shock I wear mine with leather converse.

Mine are River Island, people have thought they were real leather Smile

bettykt · 21/12/2014 21:18

Thanks Belinda will take a look.

FrugalFashionista · 21/12/2014 21:54

FancyPants I'm 5'8" and the cheaper H&M pair (15 GBP?) is just the right length for me with regular shoes. I have to tuck them a bit when I am wearing them with high tops.

BelindaAllWorkedOut · 22/12/2014 21:31

Betty, I went to Russell & Bromley today, and this v nice bag is now on sale for £140.

Pleather leggings?
frankietwospots · 22/12/2014 23:07

Amber and Belinda - you both look fab!

I have some from Next which are very good, as well as some H&M ones.

Romcom · 22/12/2014 23:08

Belinda, they look bloody amazing! EXACTLY. Which hand m ones are they, please? Grin

BelindaAllWorkedOut · 22/12/2014 23:14

Romcom - thank you Blush It's these ones, and they are a small cut, so take your normal size or one up. I'm an 8-10 and I'm in 10 in these. H&M have lots of different ones, though. A friend loves her h&M ones, which are slightly different, but fit her better. I had to try a few on. tablet.hm.com/gb/product/42687?article=42687-B
