Dear lord her face looks terrible on This Morning.
Is it the botox or the fillers that makes a face look so weird?

That woman and a mother thing really passed me off. As if women who aren't mothers are somehow less, and they are still fine to rip to shreds?*

  • yup, I know that that thread genuinely wasnt a rip to shreds sort, but you know what I mean...
DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 29/09/2014 12:48

It pissed me off that it was deleted as it really wasn't a bitchy thread. If I knew anyone in rl that thin I would be extremely worried. In fact I do, and I am!

Yup.

And beyond kindly concern for an individual, extreme thinness is also a feminist issue worth discussing, surely? Particularly when so intrinsically bound up with fashion and 'look'.

I am a woman and a mother. A mother to a teenage daughter. It would be nice if the deliberately cultivated and projected image of public figures could be discussed on a parenting site, even just to name sickly looking thinness accurately. Actually, fuck 'nice', it is seriously bloody important.

GimmeMySquash · 29/09/2014 12:58

Germaine Greer said the same thing about Kate Middleton.

ArsenicFaceCream · 29/09/2014 13:01

Hardly Gimme

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 29/09/2014 13:03

I saw that today in the mail

ArsenicFaceCream · 29/09/2014 13:06

She said an awful lot of intrusive things, including how many children KM should have, commenting on her pregnancy medical issues etc etc.

KM does not work in fashion, does not cultivate a highly stylized image as a money earner, does not directly trade on her image, does not seel products to young women etc etc

My remarks are NOT in any way comparable to Greer's bonkers rant.

GimmeMySquash · 29/09/2014 13:09

eh? You said hardly and appear to now be covering up doubting GG would say anything like that.

squoosh · 29/09/2014 13:14

Her forehead looks botoxed to the max. Google tells me she's only 43, but excessive botox use is so ageing.

GimmeMySquash · 29/09/2014 13:16

She would be better off with a fringe and a bit of sellotape.

SofaCanary · 29/09/2014 13:17

Grin @ Gimme

ArsenicFaceCream · 29/09/2014 13:21

I meant I'd hardly said the same thing as GG.

Igotafreegoattoo · 29/09/2014 13:21

I love the faux shock at the VB thread, "but Miss honestlyyyyyy we didn't say anythinggggg"

VB was repeatedly called gaunt, skinny, bag of bones, ill. It is and was offensive! You profess concern for her weight...would that concern stretch to a friend who was overweight?

ArsenicFaceCream · 29/09/2014 13:26

A friend who looks ill is a friend who looks ill Igot, whatever the reason.

CalamityKate1 · 29/09/2014 13:26

Ooh it's a bit "Realistic Orifices....Quick Inflate" isn't it??

Tillybee · 29/09/2014 13:28

I would be concerned about a friend who was very overweight (after a relation I'd similarly worried about died of heart failure). But I'd struggle at how best to voice concern to a friend who was under or overweight, or whether to at all.

BettyMoody · 29/09/2014 13:29

wo cares, really? Whose business is it? Surely feminism has taught us that women have the right to look how they damn well please. She isnt out telling everyone to botox up, she likes it. thats it!

BettyMoody · 29/09/2014 13:29

'Who'

coffeeinbed · 29/09/2014 13:30

Not that I would if she'd told me.
Still looks bizarre though.

Igotafreegoattoo · 29/09/2014 13:30

Bollocks. I'd eat my hat if any of you would actually sit an overweight friend down and tell them you think they have a weight problem. Underweight women however are fair game, as per the VB thread!

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 29/09/2014 13:31

Yes it would, of course.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 29/09/2014 13:33

My post was to igot btw!

ArsenicFaceCream · 29/09/2014 13:35

I'd eat my hat if any of you would actually sit an overweight friend down and tell them you think they have a weight problem.

I'm not sure if/how I'd broach it in either case. It would have to be quite extreme.

I do want my DC to understand that underweight is just as unhealthy as overweight, though. It's not always a message that gets through in our culture.
