Dear lord her face looks terrible on This Morning.
Is it the botox or the fillers that makes a face look so weird?

*ages

pinkfrocks · 03/10/2014 20:03

are you fat- just out of interest?

RonaldMcDonald · 03/10/2014 20:56

The fat thing is weird with ageing

I am tall gangly no arse titty ( but they are an atrocity 3 bf kids later )
I still look the part clothed...naked and in a bikini I am beginning to look a bit ....skinned rabbit?

My friend is 5"5. A 14. She is much more luscious and roundy
I think at a point fatter is better.

pinkfrocks · 03/10/2014 21:00

Until you get diabetes, heart disease or cancer, perhaps.
Super skinny doesn't flatter anyone, but fatness is ageing too - in every sense.

itsbetterthanabox · 03/10/2014 21:33

Are you bizarrely prejudice about larger people? - just out of interest.

itsbetterthanabox · 03/10/2014 21:36

Weight genuinely has nothing to do with how old you look. There are fat old looking and fat young looking people and the same with thin people. Actually think about it instead of judging.

pinkfrocks · 03/10/2014 21:59

You seem to have the chip on your shoulder about fatness. You snapped when it was mentioned- and it wasn't me who first mentioned it. Think about that!

itsbetterthanabox · 03/10/2014 22:39

I'd hardly call it snapping but it is sad how almost all threads descend into fat bashing. I responded to how you said it because the way you post about all these things about how women look is very derogatory.

pinkfrocks · 04/10/2014 08:02

I wouldn't call it a prejudice to acknowledge and say that being fat is unhealthy and for most people a lifestyle choice.

I would agree with the many posters here - on different threads- that being overweight in middle age is usually ageing in terms of appearance. Some women who are fat have smooth, unlined faces due to having more fat under the skin, but it's not healthy because fat cells produce oestrogen - there is a direct link between being overweight and breast cancer.

Equally, being underweight can make women look gaunt and lined.

I'd say I am being objective with these comments not prejudiced.

Roussette · 04/10/2014 08:36

Fat does make a difference to how you look, but it's all about balance isn't it. I lost a lot of weight and went down to way below my natural weight for a time. It really showed in my face, I was definitely more wrinkly and have the photos to prove it.

Now - I have put weight back on - not excessively but definitely not skinny any more and as much as I loved buying size 8-10 clothes, it showed in my face far too much and I was just scrawny and wrinkly. that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it

TheUrinator · 04/10/2014 09:44

My mate has had very subtle botox and it looks really good.

However I notice that often, because the corners of the eyes don't wrinkle when a botoxed person laughs, their nose wrinkles instead. Which actually looks quite cute.

itsbetterthanabox · 04/10/2014 11:21

There is thought to be a link not a direct link. That isn't really relevant though.
It's not objective it's your opinion. Your opinion is that being bigger makes someone look older. I don't agree as I look at people and some look older and some look younger than their age irrelevant to their weight. It just isn't true that 'fatness is ageing in every sense'. And even if it were I don't like the idea of telling women to look young by getting thin and injecting their faces.

pinkfrocks · 04/10/2014 11:36

You might want to think about that link. Looking at these stats here then the correlation is very clear.

Anyway- this is not the AIBU forum, so we will have to agree to disagree.

Floisme · 04/10/2014 12:38

I haven't put much weight on (I'm still size 8-10) but my face has filled out since the menopause and, although it may have spared me a few extra wrinkles, I don't think its a good look. I kind of feel like my face has gone missing. I have friends of a similar age (late 50s) whose faces are far more lined and I guess most people would say they look older than me but I still think they look better because their faces haven't lost definition. A year or so ago, I'd have said that jowls were the worst thing but now I think it's this: loss of definition. In another five years, it'll probably be something else.

Going back to the thread, that's another reason why I've decided procedures aren't for me. This stuff comes at you from all directions and it never stops. It feels like a battle I would never win.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 04/10/2014 13:49

Yes, that nose wrinkly thing is a dead give away.

TheSpottedZebra · 04/10/2014 15:25

Nose thing is known as 'bunny nose'.

Roussette · 04/10/2014 15:28

A battle I would never win is a very good analogy, yes. It's a battle I don't want to start too. plus I'm a bit of a wuss

bouquetdiva · 04/10/2014 15:47

I am 52 and have just had my second lot of botox and no-one would ever notice. It has just softened the lines and stopped me from frowning all the time. A consequence of working on a computer all day. It was done at a private hospital which I would recommend to anyone thinking of it.

As for being fat or thin, well too much either way does not help anyone look good, but heavy smoking and drinking is imo far worse and really catches up with people once they are into their 40s

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 04/10/2014 15:58

And wrinkly eyelids is another give away.

bouquetdiva · 04/10/2014 16:01

No wrinkly eyelids either! Just a happier face Smile

Saurus72 · 04/10/2014 17:55

I saw Amanda Holden IRL last week, and while I do think she was lovely looking before, she now looks plain wierd. Honestly, she looked like she was made of shiny wax, just really bizarre and very sad that is seen as preferable as ageing gracefully.

RubbishTiming · 06/10/2014 14:40

I have had botox and fillers. Not a big deal. I am happy with the results, and actually that is all that matters - I did it for me, not for anybody else. I think it's just another thing for women to bash each other over the head with. I do think that the high levels of judginess, as displayed on here are what puts so many off from being open about getting it done. It is down to personal choice and really, it is no-one else's business.

Funnily enough Saurus, a friend saw AH irl the other day and had quite a chat with her. My friend's overriding impression, apart from that she was very sweet, was just that she is so much tinier than she even appears on screen.

Floisme · 06/10/2014 16:17

I agree with not being judgy of each other. However a number of posters made a point of saying that they too believe it's a personal choice but just want to explain why they've decided against it. Is that also seen as judging?

Regarding it being no-ones business - this comes up regularly but why shouldn't we talk about it or even argue, provided we're civil to each other? I've disagreed with some posters on this thread and they've disagreed with me but I don't regard it as 'bashing each other over the head' - I just see it as disagreeing!

Pinkfrocks · 06/10/2014 16:50

This one's going to run and run...

I think the judgy-ness comes across because some posters who are against this seem to take the ' women who do it are shallow, brain washed by media...don't have the intelligence to see past that..' which is a bit of a 'put down'. I've a lovely friend in her 60s who has a PhD , is very grounded, very independent, but she was talking one day about eyelifts if she could afford it.

The suggestion is that vanity and intelligence are somehow mutually exclusive, yet no one who is against it admit that they probably dye their hair, wear make up, shave their legs, etc. which is all another form of vanity and a means of looking younger and better.

AgathaF · 06/10/2014 17:29

I think the judginess on this thread has been quite sad really. Exactly as Pinkfrocks said, but also the 'all women who have it look rubbish, they just don't realise it' attitude.

I don't judge women who don't have it done, why should anyone judge me for having it done?
