I know this has been done before and posters have got flamed but I'd really like some suggestions.

I'll go over the budget if its something I really like, but not wildly so.

I probably looking for more of a tote style rather than clutch.
Thanks.

Grin at giving a chunk to charity and buying a cheap bag.

Fuck that for a game.

I use my bayswater daily. It's covered in dog hair, mud, crisp crumbs and god knows what else.

I'm browsing for a new bag at the moment and am almost decided on a Balenciaga. Love the tassels

Or an Alexander McQueen in bright yellow.

MyGastIsFlabbered · 23/08/2014 09:03

OP I hope you don't see my posts as asking for you to justify yourself. It wasn't meant like that. I hope you find a bag you love.

monkeyfacegrace · 23/08/2014 09:05

santa 5k is certainly not the limit. I have put in my order for a Hermes Berkin to be delivered on my 40th birthday. It will set DH back around £25k.

Only 13 years to wait

MrsCampbellBlack · 23/08/2014 09:05

The tom ford jennifer bag is gorgeous too. If I wasn't saving for chanel reissue, I would have been very tempted.

BelindaAllWorkedOut · 23/08/2014 09:06

mygast - I think I understand where you are coming from Smile

My ultimate bag is the Celine box bag. But it's rather expensive.

BelindaAllWorkedOut · 23/08/2014 09:07

A friend has the Jennifer, MrsCB - it's really lovely. Not easily identifiable, so it's quite discreet. I like it very much!

BelindaAllWorkedOut · 23/08/2014 09:08

Oh goodness, that's very nice Stick, thank you.

MarshaBrady · 23/08/2014 09:08

After the cheaper trio which I really like, not to be disloyal

santamarianovella · 23/08/2014 09:12

monkey that's for plain leather bags, I didn't mention exotic skin bags, because last time I did I got in a bit of trouble Wink, are you after a 35cm or 30cm?
Maybe I should mention an hermes for my 40th, 9 years to go,I will beat you to itGrin

monkeyfacegrace · 23/08/2014 09:12

Mrs Campbell I think I'm going to order one of the classics in yellow.

Love statement colours.

Surely I'll get a couple of years out of it. I don't treat my bags well to be fair.

monkeyfacegrace · 23/08/2014 09:15

Op always worth checking out The Out net. They sometimes have fab bags for half price so you can buy two Wink

santamarianovella · 23/08/2014 09:48

I have a friend with a balenciaga city , its gorgeous, but it has jeans marks on the back of the bag,its pretty common with balenciaga bag, they end up looking pretty much beaten up and tattered, which is the "aesthetic" ghesquiere wanted to create when he first desgined the bags , they part time and work are bit more sturdier I was told,

One of the things I love about mumsnet ,is that everyone is really helpful on here, tracking down things, and offering help with recommendations, opinions..etc, so when someone comes and asks about recommdations about a bag, why does certain people get all defensive? Do you feel so good about yourself when you make others think they are superficial? Or trivial? We know nothing about the OP, maybe she volunteers in charities, and donates, does she need to declare it to the world when she posts about a purchase she is about t to make? Because that's bragging in my opinion, and much much worse than someone saying "im about to drop 3k on a bag fancy helping me out? "
and mentioning charity in a bag thread has absolutely nothing to do with it!

NoArmaniNoPunani · 23/08/2014 09:58

Are Marc Jacobs bags not rated highly? I never see them mentioned on here.

BrandyAlexander · 23/08/2014 10:45

Ooh a bag threadSmile

Blueberries, I have the Chloe Marcie and it's a fantastic bag. Well made and keeps its structure. The only thing is that it's heavy-ish. I think that's a great discount though and the colour is stunning. I also have 2 Bayswaters. It's again a great bag but lots of people have the one you linked (including me) so there is nothing statement about it and it's a bit boring. My favourite bayswater is suede and therefore I only use it when there is zero chance of rainHmm

Santa is right. The balenciaga does get all "scrunchy" and beat up looking after a year. I was a tad distraught at first but think its part of the charm.

The Pashli is lovely but also like the Marcie quite heavy. It looks great and always get complimented though.

Some suggestions.... If you like Philip Lim have a look at the PS1 by Proenza Schouler. Less heavy, same shape and kind of looks more expensive. Have you looked at the Smythson Nancy? It's stunning. The bag I currently want is the Chloe Paraty.

I like bags. I am fortunate to have the legally gained earnings to be able to afford bags. That's the end.Wink

KeepTheCarRunning · 23/08/2014 10:45

Armani I have a large white leather mj bag that has lasted me ages! I used it to cart around at least ten books at a time through uni and now it serves a changing bag for ds2. It's the trooper in my bag collection Grin

PlacidApricots · 23/08/2014 10:46

Blimey £900 would totally change my life right now, I'm just that poor.

NoArmaniNoPunani · 23/08/2014 10:55

Thanks keep

Has anyone bought from sacculos website?

raspberryslush · 23/08/2014 11:12

The OP can spend whatever she like on a bag as she has a high income and shouldn't be made to feel guilty, assuming that she has earned it legally. :)

I do think that some posters (not the OP) are remarkably naive and insensitive to other who clearly don't have this amount of money to spend. mygast asked so politely in a non judgemental way and people have felt the need to respond defensively.

Things like 'There are plenty of threads where people discuss getting value for money on a tight budget. If you feel more comfortable over there then off you trot.' from facebook are just rude and patronising.

This 'OMG ,this is really getting ridiculous , mygast £900 is not a lot of money on a well made bag, some bags go up to £5k ,I think the minimum price now days for good quality bags starts at £500 upwards' from santamarianovella show immense naivety and a lack of sensitivity to others.

And babybarrister's remark about 'not wanting to spend 900' shows incredible naivety too.

Why is it difficult for (a minority) or people on v high incomes/ high disposable incomes to understand that people on lower incomes simply cannot afford this sort of money on a bag? It's not a question of cutting out fags/ booze/pets. The majority of people just do not earn enough to have this sort of money floating around waiting to be spent. So, enjoy your money and buy as many bags as you like but try to show a little sensitivity and understanding for others.

NoArmaniNoPunani · 23/08/2014 11:19

The thing is we can't seem to have a handbag thread on here without sanctimonious posters telling us we are all shallow for choosing to spend our money on handbags.

It's the style and beauty section, if we can't post here where can we? You don't get people in the travel section moaning that posters shouldn't be asking about holidays when others can't afford them.

MrsCampbellBlack · 23/08/2014 11:23

Yes, I agree. I think everyone knows that £900+ is a lot to spend on a handbag but it would be nice if a poster could say she was looking for one for that amount without the flaming.

It's odd as I never notice quite the same vitriol for posters in property who are choosing expensive fittings for their houses.

As long as people have the money then they can buy whatever they wish. Be it bags, taps or a bench.

OneLittleLady · 23/08/2014 11:37

I think it's a real shame that every bag thread seems to descend into a mass flaming. For some people, that amount of money is huge and life changing, for others its not but no one should be made to feel bad about being on either side of the divide. It's not fair to make others feel bad because they've got/can afford something you can't. It's no ones right to go around trying to make other people feel small because they have money to spend. I am on the poor side of the fence but I wouldn't dream of trying to bring other people down because they can afford something I can't.
