I know this has been done before and posters have got flamed but I'd really like some suggestions.

I'll go over the budget if its something I really like, but not wildly so.

I probably looking for more of a tote style rather than clutch.
Thanks.

LEM - I'd also second TK Maxx. But if I were you, I'd wait for the sales and look in boden/zara/m&s all of which do decent leather bags.

SofaCanary · 23/08/2014 15:28

Balenciaga City would be top of my list.

monsterowl · 23/08/2014 15:33

Good grief. My advice: spend £100 max on a bag and use the remaining £800 as investment for your children or send it to charity.

MrsCampbellBlack · 23/08/2014 15:37

Why is there an assumption that if one buys expensive bags that one doesn't provide adequately for children or give to charity?

I sort of assume if you're spending a lot on bags, well you probably have a pretty healthy disposable income.

LuckySaint · 23/08/2014 15:52

Oh dear, the same old arguments because someone dared to say they want a nice bag.

Do you go on the baking threads and shout at people who buy Kitchen Aid mixers, and tell them to make do with a wooden spoon and give the £400 to charity?

monkeyfacegrace · 23/08/2014 15:54

I need a like button.

Or what about if somebody buys mineral water. The bastards. They should glug from the tap and pop a quid in the charity box.

MrsCampbellBlack · 23/08/2014 15:55

To be fair, my bags get used a lot more often than my kitchenaid Wink

NoArmaniNoPunani · 23/08/2014 16:02

When I looked at that on preview I thought mrscampbell's comment was that she uses her bags more than her kitchen (that's probably true for me)

ChickenFajitaAndNachos · 23/08/2014 16:04

How does it work if one buys an expensive bag to carry one's expensive pet around? Does the pet cancel out the bag or is doubly bad?

MrsCampbellBlack · 23/08/2014 16:06

I wish Noarmani - I wish Wink. And sadly, I may have to wait a while longer for my chanel bag as kitchen needs doing and every other thing in this house.

strawberryangel · 23/08/2014 16:13

I'd love to have £900 to spend on a bag! I'd also love to have £900 to give to charity.

I'm relatively comfortable- ie bills get paid and food isn't a worry. I've been dirt poor, and had the anxiety/misery that came with it. I've also been a bit better off in the past- not £900 handbag better off, more £100 handbag levels!

I do not begrudge the OP her bag. People are killjoys.

Presumably she's not sold one of her children to get it, right? She earns her money, she can buy what she likes. I agree with the smoking analogy.

dexter73 · 23/08/2014 16:29

Greengardenpixie - I find it a bit odd that you are so against someone paying £900 for a bag when you have just spent about £300 on a pair of boots and are on a thread where you can't stop buying clothes.

ChickenFajitaAndNachos · 23/08/2014 16:33

OMG, 300 pounds. Think of all the good she could have done with that money if only she gone to ShoeZone and donated 280 to charity.

MrsKoala · 23/08/2014 16:42

MrsCampbell - i hate you - i am know in love with that Tessie bag .

I have never spent more than £200 on a bag and have bought most of my bags (a few at a time) from boutiques in Milan and Hong Kong (when travelling with work). So no big brand names, but lovely leather, colours (that's important to me) and shapes. But now i am prohibited from working by my tiny overlords, my bag opportunities are limited. seriously tempted to put that bag on my credit card Shock

To be fair, if you had £300 you could buy all the shoes in ShoeZone and five them away to the poor! Grin

Shia · 23/08/2014 16:49

Give not five!

MrsKoala · 23/08/2014 16:51

I have a question to those of you who have expensive bags. What shoes do you wear when you use the bag/s?

The reason i ask is when i'm on the tube i notice peoples bags and often they will have a lovely bag but be wearing really cheap plastic shoezone shoes. I think it then looks really bizarre or like the bag is fake as i can't imagine having a £1000+ bag and be wearing shoes which cost less than £10.

BlueberriesAndWine · 23/08/2014 17:09

Thanks everyone for your suggestions and input, this thread has been interesting to say the least!

Anyway I took note of all the suggestions and the bags I'm liking so far, in no particular order are

Chloe marcie
Gucci Jackie
Tory Burch Robinson
Philip Lim Pashli
Tom Ford Jennifer

Obviously some of these are way over the price I gave and some are under. So plenty to chew over.

I've just spent a pleasant hour looking at all the links and marking my favourites, so thank you to all the handbag experts who have helped.

I just stick to Jones and Russel and Bromley. I found it hard to 'break in' shoes and make them comfortable so don't have that many shoes or boots.

MrsKoala · 23/08/2014 17:14

ahhh well i've got the right shoes then - i just need the posh bags Wink

Greengardenpixie · 23/08/2014 17:14

I agree, its a disgusting price.... and i am ashamed of buying the boots at that price..but at least i acknowledge that. I think nearly £300 is a terrible price regardless of workmanship. I could have fed my children for 3 weeks with that money. Some people however justfiy spending that money. I have none. Its true. but i am not claiming to justify my spending and just digging my head in the sand. Its a rare thing for me to spend that amount and i can tell you, it wont be happening anytime soon...and it still isnt £900!!! or £25k for a bag! or a pair of shoes or boots or whatever!!

Greengardenpixie · 23/08/2014 17:15

..anyway, i said i wouldnt be back on...im not out to have an argument! :)

NoArmaniNoPunani · 23/08/2014 17:16

I wear anything from converse to miu miu shoes. I don't wear heels due to an issue with my foot/leg.

ChickenFajitaAndNachos · 23/08/2014 17:22

Surely it's about if you can afford something or not. If you have thousands a month disposable income after pensions, savings etc then I don't think you have to justify your spending to anyone.
I don't think men do this justifying/guilt trip thing to each other over watches and gadgets.
It's almost as if women, especially mothers can't have lovely things.
