I know this has been done before and posters have got flamed but I'd really like some suggestions.

I'll go over the budget if its something I really like, but not wildly so.

I probably looking for more of a tote style rather than clutch.
Thanks.

Yep Shop I finally got onto that, didn't with the first one, have with the second.

LightastheBreeze · 25/08/2014 11:11

Shop Thanks I will get some for my purse, it also will be useful for other leather stuff. Even though it was only about £40-50 its a shame to throw it out if it can be cleaned up a bit. I did think of washing it if I was going to throw it out anyway but will buy some cleaner.

Another thing I seem to get is the dreaded jean dye coming out on bags. I see that bag cleaning place that NoArmani linked to, got that out, though nowadays I just use a dark bag if wearing newish jeans as I have ruined bags in the past.

Unfortunately Mulberry seems to be suffering the same fate as Burberry did in the 90's with the ripoffs etc.

I still have all my bags i have bought over the last 15 years. They are not high end at all - between £80-£150. Because i rotate them they don't get too much wear and tear (the only one i've sadly had to get rid of was a beautiful Osprey butterfly bag from TK Maxx, because it was a 'hand held' one and the handle got so worn it looked terrible - that's why i only buy shoulder strapped bags now). I also clean them regularly and use leather protectors on them.

LEM - the knock off assumption is why i asked about shoes (and other clothes). If i see someone in plastic shoes i just assume 'fake' bag too. I hate fake anything, just seems to pointless and tacky. My moto is 'a real timex is better than a fake rolex'. If i can't afford something i'd rather not pretend i can with something cheap. I think it's way better from a design integrity perspective to just buy the best within your budget rather than a knock off.

I would never carry a fake but I'm sure when I go to the corner shop on a dress down day people would never guess my bag was real. I know it is and that's all that matters

Claxonia · 25/08/2014 11:25

My husband gave me a Coach Borough bag. It comes in 3 sizes, I wanted the large one as I usually end up carrying 2 or 3 bags with my stuff/kid stuff but the medium size is lovely too and I have my eye on a mini one in a metallic colour for evening if I can ever justify it!

santamarianovella · 25/08/2014 11:32

Sorry pink, you are wrong ,some high end bags, are manufactured in EU countries, these companies are bound by law to pay their workers according to their trade, and within the expected pay bracket, no one is paid by precentage anymore you get minimum pay ad anything extra on top is perks, they are protected by unions, offered decent days off, and overall have better working conditions than people working in primark factories in Asia,
Please try to do some research .

I advice you to read about solomeo in Italy, the entire twon was complelety renovated by the designer brunello cuccinelli, so not only does he manufacture his clothing there, and therefore contributes to the itallian economy, he built a library, an art center and theatre, yes he is a billionaire now, but he contributed so much to his country, instead of taking his business to Asia , will gladly buy his £££ sweaters instead of cheapy ones, but I guess that's just vapid and silly me Wink.

mrskoala I want to kiss you Grin your moto should be the S&B slogan, love it!

Light I've found if I spray bags with protector it can sometimes protect from the dreaded denim transfer too - because when you clean the bag you clean off the stain that is sat on the protector, but the leather below is still clean IYSWIM.

LatteLoverLovesLattes · 25/08/2014 12:21

I post in S&B, by accident if something interesting comes up in active convos, about 3 times a year. I generally avoid it because thread titles such as 'What are WE wearing this Autumn' make me want to heave - much like 'WE are pregnant'. You might have gathered, it's not my MN home Grin

BelindaAllWorkedOut · 25/08/2014 12:37

[raises my Brew mug to latte]

dexter73 · 25/08/2014 12:38

Well said LatteLover!

shopafrolic · 25/08/2014 12:39

Well said latte not for S&B

santamarianovella · 25/08/2014 12:45

And now, I want to kiss latte too Smile

Apatite1 · 25/08/2014 12:45

Hurrah latte!

MrsCampbellBlack · 25/08/2014 12:47

And now I really want a latte Smile

I also want to start a 'what are we wearing this autumn thread' just for latte Wink

LadyRubyPenhaligon · 25/08/2014 12:56

Latte you have got it spot on! I also detest the what are we wearing threads as if 'we' are all the same. I think it's really someone saying what have you bought that you love but badly worded. Either way I avoid.
A high end bags thread oh yes please somebody start one.

MarshaBrady · 25/08/2014 12:57

What are we wearing is exactly like we are pregnant, I agree. Makes me twitch.

madammecholet · 25/08/2014 13:02

yes yes yes amber to a bag addict thread on S&B..... longtimeoverdue

LatteLoverLovesLattes · 25/08/2014 13:11

I wasn't entirely sure about coming back to this thread... I'm glad I did now :)

Do the posters on the 'Buggy' threads get this much shtick? I never venture over there either as I just 'don't get' that either?! Grin

(Shopafrolic - which EOS do you have? Apatite - depends on how much you want to spend, what he likes to photograph and how old/big he is)

madammecholet · 25/08/2014 13:11

ok, i've started a dedicated bag lust thread...

New Bag Thread

Pinkfrocks · 25/08/2014 13:33

SMN- I didn't intend you to take the comment about being paid a percentage literally.
It's clear really that what I meant was that people who work in a factory making bags sold for £1K or more are not paid anything like the income of people who buy the bags, or receive a high income for their work. Put it this way- I bet the income of someone making a Mulberry bag is barely higher ( proportionally) than someone making a £50 bag.

And ok fine, one company or town in Europe does things differently, but not all do.

And for your info, I don't buy from Primark and wouldn't because of the sweatshop associations.

If women want to waste money on bags, fine, but don't pretend it's some kind of cause that brings people out of poverty in any way that is different from any manufacturing of anything, be it car parts or lavatories.
