I know this has been done before and posters have got flamed but I'd really like some suggestions.

I'll go over the budget if its something I really like, but not wildly so.

I probably looking for more of a tote style rather than clutch.
Thanks.

I actually think it's really shit that EVERY high end bag thread gets derailed like this. The OPs never seem to get the inspiration/ideas they were after because it turns into a bun fight.

I'm firmly of the opinion that how anyone spends their money is no-one else's business. Maybe we bag lovers should form a pact to ignore the sanctimony and just give advice to the OPs on these threads? After all, you can't push water uphill.

Fortunes change. I used to have a very well paid job and spent thousands on clothes and handbags.

I glad I did because when my fortunes changed and I found myself jobless, my savings stolen by my ex and I had become a single parent, I was able to sell my expensive clothing and bags etc to raise money to help provide for my children.

Well made and 'designer' named pieces hold their value, and can be an investment in their own right.

Camsie30 · 24/08/2014 11:18

I am obsessed with the Anya Hindmarch Maxi zip satchel. Am seriously considering it as my "push present" to myself!!

MrsCampbellBlack · 24/08/2014 11:20

Cross body very practical when pushing a pram camise Smile Also, Anya bags are very lovely leather.

Cranagh · 24/08/2014 11:24

I love bags .

I have the Anya Hindmarch Gracie and maxi zip satchel, I recommend both. I also really like Burberry bags now, really well made, lovely leather and they have some great totes. I'm saving for this. I also really rate MBMJ, have two Natashas which are wearing well.

Camsie30 · 24/08/2014 11:31

Just flicked through previous posts, shall we all just be a bit kinder to each other ladies? Everyone has different budgets and priorities, let's save the anger and vitriol for things that really matter shall we?

The Outnet is a great place to pick up a bargain, they currently have some gorgeous Tory Burch bags on sale. I think they are really good quality having had one for a couple of years now. I'm very lucky to own a few Mulberry bags, but I wouldn't buy one. The quality is seriously questionable and the prices are not justified anymore. I sold one on EBay recently because I found it too heavy to actually use. Love my old battered Bayswater though.

Shia that Philip Lim bag is DIVINE.

LEMmingaround · 24/08/2014 11:33

This may sound churlish but it seems to me. The more expensive the bag. The tackier it is. Even mulberry seem to have lost their classically simple, natural look in favour of gaudy.

LEMmingaround · 24/08/2014 11:35

Because my cath kidstone bag isn't gaudy at all. No no no

MrsCampbellBlack · 24/08/2014 11:35

Depends on the bag Lem - I think the chanel re-issue in navy is very elegant, also a hermes birkin or kelly in plain leather is pretty lovely.

Quite frankly i'm really shocked at this thread and people's responses. Does the society we live in accept that £900 on a bag is reasonable now? Not the circles i live in for sure! My own mum would be horrified, let alone my dh or anyone else at the school gates!!! Is there no one on this thread that thinks this is expensive?? Or maybe while everyone on here is busy justifying themselves for spending this amount [ or not it may seem as it doesnt need justifying to some ] i seem to be in the minority as others on s&b steer clear because they know its futile to argue on a thread like this!!! Clearly i am not in the circles of the people on this thread..a humble primary teacher....Think i will avoid any in the future like this. Im quite frankly gobsmacked and think i may just shrivel away in a corner with my £50 bag.

Greengardenpixie · 24/08/2014 12:11

oh and forgot as someone said...shivel in my sanctimonious corner with my £50 bag :(

MrsCampbellBlack · 24/08/2014 12:14

Green - I don't understand why you are taking it so personally. There are many many people who are richer than me, who go on more expensive holidays, have bigger houses, flasher cars etc etc but that is life.

I don't feel i have to justify what I spend to anyone because it is no one else's business.

And come on, if you did spend £300 on a pair of boots - well, I've never spent that on boots but I won't judge you for doing so Wink

I just think people should be able to post about style matters whatever their budget.

Greengardenpixie · 24/08/2014 12:17

Im not taking it personally..you misunderstand. I am just expressing my point of view..thats all. I just cannot believe i am in the minority. As for my boots...i feel embaressed and if i mentioned i had bought them at that price...everyone i know would be quite shocked as its not the amount of money we usually spend on things!!! I do feel guilty and they would be right!!

Greengardenpixie · 24/08/2014 12:19

You are right though..maybe its one for the debates section of mumsnet and not for here. So i will let you get on with your discussion and any like it. Im not taking it personally.

MrsCampbellBlack · 24/08/2014 12:19

I doubt you are in the minority on mn as a whole but this is a specific thread in S&B where the budget is clearly mentioned in the title. As such, I expect people who think its mad or whatever just don't bother clicking on it.

The OP wasn't asking for a debate, just some nice links.

Of course, you are free to express your opinion but its been done oh so many times on these types of threads that I get why Amber suggests just ignoring the arguments and just concentrating on giving some recommendations.

Greengardenpixie · 24/08/2014 12:27

yes, Mrs Cambell definetly one for debates :)

ChickenFajitaAndNachos · 24/08/2014 12:27

Green just out of interest is it the actual spending on handbags or the fact that some of us feel no guilt when we do so that irritates you. Do you have the same feelings every time some one drives by you in their Audi or land rover or walks by you in the winter with their long haul tan?

mswibble · 24/08/2014 12:30

Id hate to think what would be the response of the sanctimonious gits on here if they met my friend who received a Miss Dior bag for her 40th. I wont reveal the price on here, as it would no doubt induce fits of utter rage. ??

As it is, im chuffed to bits for her. Its what she wanted, she will have it for the rest of her life and if her OH can afford it why not?

Shia · 24/08/2014 12:40

Hands up who'd rather have 16,000 carrier bags or one £800 bag?

Greengardenpixie · 24/08/2014 12:47

Look, im not looking for an argument at all and not argumentative by nature. I am just going off this thread so that you can discuss your next bag worth £1000 000 if thats what you wish. Some posters are carrying this discussion on. Well im ending it for me at least ...if you wish to continue it then do it without me. I keep trying to avoid it but someone keeps referring to me and I dont want to be ignorant but i am no longer replying to messages on this thread. I love being on S&B as like many love clothes and nice things and like to share :) and will continue but not on this thread. Im not in a huff, upset or otherwise...Just be with your bags in the nicest possible way :)

ChickenFajitaAndNachos · 24/08/2014 12:53

Shia the 800 bag, obvs mainly for environmental reasons plus it's the not the same have a sneaky sniff and swing of a plastic carrier.

MrsKoala · 24/08/2014 12:59

I only get my hair cut 1-2 a year. Do home colouring. Home facials and mani/pedis. I wear little make up. I rarely buy clothes or shoes. I have £50 spends a week on myself out of the family budget. I shop in Lidl monthly and save about £120 on what we used to spend in tesco. If i choose, out of my spends to save, £50-80 a month for a year (which i do), then buy myself something i want, then how is that any different to spending it on anything else? The circles i am in are exactly the same as you Green, teachers, nurses, carers and low paid admin workers. My friends spend their money on lots of things i wouldn't - regular hairdressing apps seems to be the most popular.

My family don't go without and i am actually very low maintenance imo.

MrsCB - i'm still looking at that oxblood tessie hobo and thinking of it being my next treat to myself. I would want something about that price and practical - so across my body, slouchy, and with plenty of room. I'm having a baby on Weds (and i have had a truly shite 6 months and been in hospital for 4 wks with bleeding now) and i have a toddler. Apart from that bag is there anything else similar i could also look at? Sorry to hijack OP. (i hate black btw)

MrsKoala · 24/08/2014 13:02

x-post Green. I have no problem with your posts. They are your opinion. I think expensive cars are a total waste of money, but i know people really love them and that boggles my mind too. :)

ChickenFajitaAndNachos · 24/08/2014 13:04

MrsKoala best wishes for Wednesday Flowers
