Are we wearing long boots this winter or is it ankle boots all the way?

A few years back no one would have been seen dead in ankle boots with skirts or dresses. Now it seems that ankle boots are de rigeur, whatever anyone is wearing.
Do knee length boots have a place at all, and are they 'out' over skinnies?

I don't own any shoes either. Just boots, trainers and sandals too!

I will wear both, but need some new long boots. I have already been eyeing up duo (previous duo boots have lasted 9yrs) . I'm not sure the green suede is that practical, but they look lovely...

AverageMom · 17/08/2014 21:54

Both! But I prefer long

TOADfan · 17/08/2014 22:24

Short for me. I have insanely big calves and have never found a long boot which fits. Even the simply be extra extra wide boots are too small. I have 27cm wide calves.

foxdongle · 17/08/2014 22:37

Both
Never mind winter I wore my ankle boots last night

noddyholder · 17/08/2014 22:44

I think I will be wearing more shoes this year

ElephantsNeverForgive · 17/08/2014 22:49

Likewise, I don't own shoes, I find low solid ankles really uncomfortable. If I need something dreesy it's sling backs or sandals.

I'm Envy of DD2, who seems to find pretty cheap ballet flats comfy.

ElephantsNeverForgive · 17/08/2014 23:06

remus what ankle boots do your wear?
T
As I say I can't find any sensible everyday (mum) boots that don't flap about and look like those stupid short gardening wellies.

I have an ancient pair of high boots, that actually fit at the top, but they aren't suited to shopping, driving and everyday life.

BBQSteak · 17/08/2014 23:27

I willbe wearing tall boots

CointreauVersial · 17/08/2014 23:28

When you all say "knee boots" do you mean just below the knee (which have been around for years), or just on/above the knee (like those Stuart Weizman ones all the bloggers were wearing last year)?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 17/08/2014 23:31

Chelsea boots or this sort of shape mainly.

ElephantsNeverForgive · 18/08/2014 01:30

Too high sadly, but a lovely tappered shape and narrow tops. Being short they'd look really good, but I'd turn my usless ankles over in them.

KristinaM · 18/08/2014 02:06

Can I just check -what is the official date that we are allowed to start wearing boots ?

dexter73 · 18/08/2014 07:05

If you want an actual day then Monday 22nd September is the first day of Autumn so I nominate that!

manofsponge · 18/08/2014 07:25

I'm over the cowboy type ankle boots. Are now mum boots.

Floisme · 18/08/2014 07:28

I'll be wearing both, like I have for the last couple of years.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 18/08/2014 07:38

I stay in sandals till the end of Sept (shoes for work), then into boots till about Easter, I hate shoes. I find it hard to get boots to fit (wide feet, sturdy calves, don't wear heels), but generally wear mid calf biker length boots with skinny jeans and below the knee black leather with dresses/skirts. No ankle boots here.

manofsponge, so what boots are you wearing?

I have both, like my ankle boots better, knee high irritate me with the way they fall down my calves. as for OTK, not with these thighs.

KristinaM · 18/08/2014 08:25

Actually dexter I'd prefer a date AND time Wink

But will settle for the date you have so helpfully provided

While I'm on this crucial subject and I have the attention of an expert, what is the approved date for the wearing of tights? And do black and coloured have different dates ?

I'm an ankle boots person BTW. But I have some knee length boots in mothballs and woudl like to wear them this season

dexter73 · 18/08/2014 08:52

Opaque tights are probably the same date as boots - no distinction between black and coloured.
Whilst we are talking dates, Christmas jumpers may only be worn during December.

AwkwardSquad · 18/08/2014 09:29

Ankle boots here. Knee-highs are tricky for me as they almost always look like wellies and I can't wear heels. With ankle boots, it's easier to find flat lace-up styles that I can cinch in, and they work with my clothing style (architect, according to a recent thread!).

AwkwardSquad · 18/08/2014 09:32

I like these: lace up ankle boots but would need to try them on and I'm miles away from London. Bah.

Walnut8 · 18/08/2014 09:34

Have just had winter here (well, almost over anyway) and I have to say that the knee high boots were looking rather dated ...

chelsea style or the styles remus linked to were everywhere.

noddyholder · 18/08/2014 09:44

Flat chelsea boots nice with skinnies. In fact flat in general Flat knee boots nice too. No Cuban heels this year Ribbed tights and winkle picker type shoes with skirts for going out. I love winter!
