Chopping all my hair off...

I'm feeling in need of a change, so this week I've decided to go from my past-shoulder-length hair, to next to nothing (something like the picture, but darker hair).

I have a long neck so I'm hoping to be able to pull it off, but have no idea about styling or even what cut I'm asking for.

My hair is curly/wavy and I don't want it shaved or shaped too severely.

Does anyone have any tips and more importantly, what cut am I asking for?!

PS have you seen Kaley Cuoco's new hair cut??

snappycow · 05/09/2014 18:35

OMG - just asked him what he thought and he thinks it's a great idea!! I'm amazed. So - once I'm a stone down I'm a doin it!!

FuckYouChrisAndThatHorse · 07/09/2014 20:31

Snappy :) excellent, I think hair weighs about a stone... Just chop it off!

:o

ha! I am very determined to lose a stone first - it actually gives me a goal and is making me really excited to diet and exercise. Everytime i want a cake ... I think of a Michelle williams pixie cut and stay strong. I'll be back in a month Grin

Can't wait to see the end result snappy :o

I too had a DH who claimed he liked longer hair better and didn't believe me when I said it didn't suit me. I bunged on a selection of wigs oneday and he then admitted that I really didn't suit long hair.

I have had short hair for pretty much all my adult life. I have grown it out to a short bob a couple of times but I have never felt really me with it and I don't think it looks better than short. My mum is the same. When she had chemo and went down the wigs route she tried on a bob shaped one and it dragged her face down. Same with long. I think it has to do with bone structure rather than weight if you suit a pixie.

Personally I like one which is a bit messy looking with height on the crown. I taught myself to cut my own hair after too many women's institute numbers with bouffage from hairdressers. I go over my head (leaving out the crown ) with a number 10 clipper and then I wisp the bits over the ears with thinning scissors. I trim the crown longer (about 2 inches) and snip into this to make it piece-y with thinning scissors. I then ruffle it up with Vo5 matt clay. I can't be doing a bad job since people ask where I get my hair done a lot. Oh and I push my fringe off my face.

Wip - hairport has some really good ones for inspiration and of course Jean Seberg shows how beautiful they can look even shorter.

What I will say is that a use make-up everyday- flicky eyeliner and lipstick.

I have mega curly hair. It is very very long at the moment, almost to my bum, so therefore only looks nice curly if I have had it in rollers. For work I put it up in a big bun on the top of my head or wear it straightened in a pony tail. On holidays it is a nightmare - too hot to wear down, and a nightmare under a skiing helmet. I am really really tempted to go for the big chop.

I would LOVE a pixie cut but can you do that with curly hair?

Milmingebag · 11/09/2014 10:31

here

This is what it looks closest to.

FuckYouChrisAndThatHorse · 11/09/2014 10:32

Blossom, my hair is curly :) not tight curls, but more than wavy. The wax helps give it weight and separate it out. I think curly gives you the tousled look (which I love)

Mil, that's pretty much what mine is like :) I'm in awe that you cut it yourself!

Blossom look at how Audrey Tatou styles her hair in a pixie. Actually having curls can be a boon as you don't have to primp for texture.

I didn't highlight the Jean Seberg link by the way-it just bloody appeared with an amazon link. Off to delete cookies!

She looks stunning! I want that haircut.

FuckYouChrisAndThatHorse · 17/09/2014 17:29

That is lovely. I'm not sure mine would stay so elegantly swept.

Very short curly hair looks amazing, it gives it a little kink, which I would love.
I cut my own hair too its really easy if you keep it short.
Im definitely in the Jean Seberg hair group atm, Im letting it go grey so Im constantly chopping bits if colour out if it.

pardonmytits · 19/09/2014 12:11

I'm 90% sure I'm going to bite the bullet and get my hair chopped at my appointment next week. Have had long hair my whole life, and am getting so fed up with it yet am so nervous. I have a picture to show my hairdresser but last time I went, she said they normally don't look at pictures - I understand why (ish) but how do you explain what you want as well as a picture would show?

I'd love my hair to look like this...

FuckYouChrisAndThatHorse · 19/09/2014 12:35

Ooh, that's lovely. I would take a picture and say, "I don't know how else to describe it, I know it won't be identical to the picture".

I think some hairdressers panic and think you expect them to make you look exactly like the picture.

Just show it straight away, don't let her hide from it.

I've just got past the point where I need a cut. I'm going to go even shorter on top this time. My biggest issues have been taming my fringe (originally side parting), which is now tamed and no longer tries to give me curtains, and where my curl wants to kick out at the back of my hair and give me a mullety look now it's a bit longer. So the plan is have that shorter, maybe have it a bit shorter all over, and keep the fringe and front pretty much as it was.

trevortrevorslattery · 19/09/2014 14:01

pardon definitely force the picture on your hairdresser!

My powers of description aren't good enough to explain what I want without one Smile. The last time I went without a picture I ended up trying to draw it on a scrap of paper to explain what I meant by "not like a mushroom" Grin

pardonmytits · 19/09/2014 18:20

Trevor You made me laugh! I'll just whip the picture in front of eyes as soon as I sit down Grin

I'm not really a hairdresser person - only been a few times, and so my powers of hair description are pretty limited!

Snappycow · 23/09/2014 21:46

I'm going this weekend. I'm terrified!!

FuckYouChrisAndThatHorse · 24/09/2014 07:55

Don't be terrified! Be excited!

I'm off for a trim today :o

I know I shouldn't care but I said to my mum "I want a big change" and before I finished she exclaimed "DONT CUT IT SHORT?!"

Ggggggrrrrr
