Chopping all my hair off...

I'm feeling in need of a change, so this week I've decided to go from my past-shoulder-length hair, to next to nothing (something like the picture, but darker hair).

I have a long neck so I'm hoping to be able to pull it off, but have no idea about styling or even what cut I'm asking for.

My hair is curly/wavy and I don't want it shaved or shaped too severely.

Does anyone have any tips and more importantly, what cut am I asking for?!

I might get mine cut soon, it's ginger and curly but I fancy going really short. At the moment it's half way down my back but I just scrape it back into a pony tail and keep getting head aches.

Ooh, Blot, I bet it would look gorgeous with red hair. I have red hair envy.

Gaia, I'm usually a "visit the hairdresser once every 2 years" person. So it's an adjustment. But the daily easiness more than makes up for it. I now use 2 in 1 shampoo and conditioner too since I don't need to worry about the condition. It's effortlessly healthy and shiny.

Pardon, are you still shocked everytime you pass a mirror? :)

Did you find you had to wear more makeup as a result? I'm thinking the focus will be more on my face iyswim?

Stripey, funnily enough I think I wear less. Not sure why. But I wear earrings much more :)

I haven't really changed the amount I wear most days (i.e. none, really - I work from home so am a bit of a lazybones in that respect) but I had an office day yesterday and did feel the urge to slap it on a bit, not sure why! No hair to hide behind I guess.

I cannot for the life of me get my hair to look as nice as it did after my cut, so for now I've discovered the joy that is the head band. Had some lovely comments about my look at work yesterday, so that was cheering.

Well I had it done and am really pleased with it. Can't take a photo at the moment as phone playing up. Its not a pixie cut but it is a lot shorter than I've had it previously and very short at the back (thinking Kaley Cuoco's new look without the looks). Love it so much and keep checking myself out. Like Pardon I'm a bit concerned that I won't be able to get it looking as good as this when I wash it myself but really pleased I took the plunge

Oh and thanks for the replies on makeup. I think I was overthinking it a bit so hopefully I won't need to too much but yes earrings definitely.

And yay Pardon on the compliment. I have a friend who I know will say "oh you've had your hair cut. Do you like it?" grrrrrr

I don't think mine ever looks like it did at first, but I prefer it messier I think. Might need to tame my fringe at some point, it's trying to escape my forehead.

Did anyone see Grand Designs last night? It was a couple of artists who did some sort of work on film sets (I missed the start). The woman's haircut at the end, when they went to see the finished house, was fab. Far too cool for me though

Trevor - I had to go on demand to see her. I love her hair so much, the colour, the style everything but I am so not cool enough to pull that off My hairdresser has hair that style, so maybe thats the next step.... yeah right

I've always changed my hair regularly, growing it long, then getting bored and chopping it off, then going through a variety of hair styles as my hair grows again.

I find the first week after getting my hair chopped short it takes a bit of experimenting with styling to get the morning/everyday styling sorted, but go for it! You might also find yourself changing your make up as a result of your new hair!

Hello can I join in please? Inspired by boredom and a little bit of a push from this thread I today has my hair massively chopped short back and sides and a big quiff. I am beyond thrilled with it! I can't remember when I last actually love my hair bit I do now! I L.O.V.E love it! Thanks ladies, and if you're pondering on it just do it!

Aw thanks so much Trevor! I am a bit fickle with my hair to be honest, but ds1 (yeah I know he's a boy and I'm a girl haha!) had his like this but more shaved at the sides in the summer and I Loved it and we have similar hair. Though he is thin with amazing cheekbones and I am fattish with 2 large chins, just thought I'd give it a go. I was looking like a matter lion beforehand and all I have been doing is tying it up so thought sod it, I'm so so pleased I did! Noone in RL has seen it yet and dh maintains he hates short hair sooo we will see! Thanks for your kind comments

Nina it's fine but I have lots of it! Also wavy with a tendency to go a bit dready if left to its own devices! The highlights will prob hold the quiff as its fairly coarse. Hth
