Chopping all my hair off...

FuckYouChrisAndThatHorse · 06/08/2014 08:43

I'm feeling in need of a change, so this week I've decided to go from my past-shoulder-length hair, to next to nothing (something like the picture, but darker hair).

I have a long neck so I'm hoping to be able to pull it off, but have no idea about styling or even what cut I'm asking for.

My hair is curly/wavy and I don't want it shaved or shaped too severely.

Does anyone have any tips and more importantly, what cut am I asking for?!

I did mine recently too, heres before and after. Well, its actually even shorter now and brown, but dont have any tidy pictures and it needs washing right now Grin

I love it, am never having long hair again. Its so much easier, especially as dh was having to help with it before.

Looks ace Beyond, you look younger and funkier with it short. That purple is lush too, mine used to be purple a couple of years ago

trevortrevorslattery · 15/10/2014 15:11

love yours too beyond Smile

I have long-ish front and short back & sides. Like a boy's haircut from the 1980s. I really want it to be like johnny (the baddy out of karate kid) but shorter at the back! So I am in full support of you having the same hair as your DS flora!

Fierceflora · 15/10/2014 15:18

I would have liked the sides and back much much shorter, maybe clippered but it would have cut off so much of my highlights it would have looked like blonde spots on my head! Ds hair was v v 80s! Looked like an extra in the club tropicana video!

mixedpeel · 15/10/2014 18:19

Interesting direction that the thread has taken, because I currently have a fringe and shoulder length hair, but have been pondering whether I could nip into the barbers just up the road and ask for a short back and sides but keep the fringe.

Is this a thing? Would it work, or am I better off going to a hairdresser for more of a style?

Fierceflora · 15/10/2014 21:18

Oh no that's def a thing mixedpeel- loads of people I know have it done at the barbers! In fact they'd prob do the best job I reckon Smile go for it!

Fierceflora · 15/10/2014 21:24

In fact who wants to see my boys hair (this was a year or so ago now though and he looks spectacularly baby faced compared to now!) and one with dh this year- hair inspiration!

Your son is cool! Loving the barber idea too....

FuckYouChrisAndThatHorse · 16/10/2014 13:35

Oh wow! So much brilliant hair!

I'd missed that this thread was still active.

I have been very tempted by the 50s style enormous quiff. It's just so funky.

go girl. most of us need a change but daren't do it. you have inspired me to be braver x

mixedpeel · 16/10/2014 21:25

Fierceflora, your son's hair-from-last-year is fabulous! Love the quiff on you, too.

I won't be quiffing as I've got a generous amount of forehead, so I'll be floppy-fringed 80s boy instead, if I do decide to go ahead.

No Saturdays free until November now, so will be a while until I can go for the chop.

I have searched 'pixie hair cut' and this thread popped up. I'm looking to do this, just not 100% sure. Well done OP for just getting it done, it really does suit you.

I have a round face and I quite like the photos of Michelle Williams and her pixie hair cut.

IrnBruTheNoo · 02/11/2014 09:42

How do you cope with a partner who doesn't feel it would suit you? DH glared at me last night when I brought this subject up!!

IrnBruTheNoo · 02/11/2014 09:51

"I don't have to worry about my hair getting in my face on a windy day"

^ this!!!! I'm fed up with my fly-away hair getting in my face!

trevortrevorslattery · 03/11/2014 10:02

Just get it done IrnBru and sod your DH Grin

It will grow back if you don't like it when it's done.
I agree re Michelle Williams - BTW her hair rules.

trevortrevorslattery · 03/11/2014 10:03

Random hyphen above, sorry!

IrnBruTheNoo · 03/11/2014 10:06

thanks for the vote of confidence trevor. Spoke on the phone to DM last night and she said 'oh, I think it might be a bit tooo short, what about just sticking with the bob? It suits you!'.

See what I'm up against?!

trevortrevorslattery · 03/11/2014 15:12

BOO DM and DH! Grin
I bet you will look amazing. You can always grow it back to a bob if you decide to Flowers

ninaprettyballerina · 08/11/2014 16:50

I did it!

Think I will feel happier once I have washed and styled it myself

trevortrevorslattery · 10/11/2014 10:37

Bluebiscuits · 11/11/2014 20:28

Love it Nina!

BlueEyedWonder · 12/11/2014 00:20

I'm still procrastinating over going proper short.
Flora I love your cut. Can you tell me what you asked please? I am always unsure as to what I ask for!

Behoove · 12/11/2014 09:30

This thread is responsible for a cast off hair mountain in the UK.
I did it too. Was previously washed out greyish brown half way down my back because I was scared to take the plunge. Now, well.....

I am very pleased with the result. It is cropped short, will try and upload a picture of what it's similar to celebrity-wise....

Bye bye hair blowing in my face all winter time!
