Chopping all my hair off...

I'm feeling in need of a change, so this week I've decided to go from my past-shoulder-length hair, to next to nothing (something like the picture, but darker hair).

I have a long neck so I'm hoping to be able to pull it off, but have no idea about styling or even what cut I'm asking for.

My hair is curly/wavy and I don't want it shaved or shaped too severely.

Does anyone have any tips and more importantly, what cut am I asking for?!

I've decided I'm going to do it! And since I've a whole 12inches of ponytail to get rid of, I'm going to donate it. I won't get an appointment before DH gets back, but I'm going to get it done next week. Eek!

Thanks! Yes, I like it. I had a long chat before the chop so it's longer on top than I planned but the weight of my hair when it was long was flattening out two cow licks at the very front of my hair so he suggested the longer fringe. That said, I need to wash and dry it myself...I don't know why hairdressers always give me a bouffant blow dry...

It's funny, isn't it? I stuck with longer hair because I felt it was more youthful, but I definitely look younger with it short.

Sorry if I've missed the reply to a PP's question, but does anyone have hair product advice? I've nearly used all the hair wax stuff I bought from the hairdresser's and want to try something else. I just want a bit of texture without it looking sticky and crunchy!

Thanks Trevor . The nice hair cutter man sold me a pot of "beach clay" the stuff from the garden is not stylish which is good for roughing up the cut but not too heavy. Apparently.

Problem - Im not slim enough yet I think to have it done. also - my hair is kind of curly. Not mega curly...but quite wavy. Does that mean I cant have it done?

Snappy, I'd forgotten that my hair has a kink in it until I washed it yesterday! I washed and blow dried it yesterday, no product in it, and today it still looks good, messy and a bit bed head. Get onto pinterest and you'll find loads of pics to inspire you!

Snappy, I'm curly and it looks great. Every morning I put some wax in it, mess it up and then smooth it down, and it looks all tousled but tidy. I'm certainly not slim at the moment either :)

I have to admit I've just been stealing dh's products :o not even sure what they're called.

i know people will snap at me ... but I think my partner would hate it if I didn't have long hair.... but the idea excites me!! massively.

I have made a vow to myself- lose a stone and chop it off!! I think after 32 years of blonde shoulder length .... it might give me a whole new lease of life and confidence!

Snappy, have you asked him? Not that it's his choice, but I certainly ran my decision passed dh to see if he thought it'd suit me.

Dh keeps bringing me enormous mugs and cups to drink out of, so that he can snigger and say I look like a tiny pixie. Luckily the constant tea being provided more than makes up for it :o

I think we both feel I just look more like me now.

well i haven't - but I've known him for many many years. He is quite enamoured with Penny off Big Bang theory and says I look a bit like her (i don't!!! but our hair is similar). and one year i dyed my hair brown and he said he really really didn't like it. And I seem to remember at one point him mentioning he didn't like short short hair on women. (I used to say I hated long hair on men too - but now I think it's fit!)

DH always said he prefers long hair too, but he says he really likes the new cut. I didn't "ask permission" either, but I think it's nice to at least talk to your partner about a major change in your appearance - just like I'd expect him to let me know if he was thinking about a radical change. I get sad every time he shaves off his holiday beard, but it doesn't stop him!

I think if I lost a stone I could get away with it. I'm on my way... Robin wright in House of Cards is like my idol!! I would love to look like that. Her short hair just makes her look so powerful and sexy. I just worry I'll look like a man!! :-(

She was my inspiration too! I love that sleek look, but my hair just won't play ball, I've too many cows licks.

Don't discount the cut yet - go talk to a good hairdresser and they'll be able to tell you what will suit your face shape and features. And maybe an inbetween cut will prep your hubbie for the big chop!
