The new loreal advert for hairspray got me thinking about my school days when Insette was the hairspray of choice. Hair never moved for weeks and you could practically snap it off. Vidal Sassoon that smelled like apples. Constant Carol that only did foundation in orange, oranger and orangist. Care to add yours Smile

Rivercam, yes, white pencil was very popular in the 1980s to enhance the whites of your eyes and resemblance to Princess Di.

TractorTedMum, St Ives grains work the same as Aapri and last ages.

Body Shop Dewberry and Fuzzy Peach perfumes. Never actually bought any - my friend and I would make a beeline for the Body Shop every time we went to town, use the testers and they were so strong that you could still smell them after about five baths. Then we grew up and got sophisticated, so we started to go to Debenhams and douse ourselves with Kouros men's aftershave instead. Happy days.

This thread is fab! Electric blue Miners mascara was the best for brown eyes. Avon Odyssey perfume was favoured at my secondary school - I especially liked the handy little roll-on bottle. I think we all liked that gorgeous frosty Iced Champink lippie too - not all that flattering looking back!

Flipflops7 Thank you, must check it out Smile

Sun in works brilliantly on my light mousey hair. I still occasionally use it to pep up my roots. Not that I'd ever admit that to my hairdresser.

Does anyone remember a range Boots dud in the 90's called "Global Collection", where everything was "inspired" by a different part of the world? I loved that.

Also used to adore Body Shop. The facewash I liked from there was Viennese Facial Chalks, which would strip your skin of oil for a good week.

I used to get my Barry M from Afflecks Palace in Manchester. I'd forgotten about that. I was frequently in trouble for wearing navy blue nail varnish to school.

I usually had a rimmel pressed powder and coffee shimmer in my blazer pocket too.

PetiteBateau · 18/07/2014 08:08

Quiggins in Liverpool & The Palace. Every Saturday

ilikecooking · 18/07/2014 08:11

Natrel Deodorant

Body shop did an all-in-one crayon type instrument that had a blunt end that measured about 1 cm that you used as blusher, lipstick AND eyeshadow!

More! Mag Blush

Latara · 18/07/2014 09:16

Lots of Sun-In to make my hair blonder.

CKOne perfume.

White musk by Body Shop.

I think I wore Boots 17 make up.

BakingWithToddlerand3YO · 18/07/2014 10:09

Ananya perfume and body lotion
Boots 17 little blue tubes of liquid eyeshadow
Boots coconut lip balm and chocolate brownie lip balm
That mascara that was white at one end and black at the other
Collection 2000 cheap nail varnish especially dark metallic shades like gun metal and petrol

I'd forgotten about impulse 02, how could I forget? I loved that citrus smell.

monsterowl · 18/07/2014 10:14

Odd to believe that you used to be able to get nail varnish only in colours on the pink/red spectrum (and maybe a bit of coral if you were lucky). I was a goth as a teen and lived in a very rural area in Wales so didn't have any cool shops to get my gothy wares. I tried to create my own black nail varnish by emptying a few blue and black ink cartridges into a bottle of red nail varnish. I excitedly applied it one evening and was very pleased with myself, but realised when I saw it in daylight the next morning that it was brown rather than black Sad

Times were hard as the only goth in the village ...

BakingWithToddlerand3YO · 18/07/2014 11:12

monsterowl the only goth in the village would be a great mn name!

monsterowl · 18/07/2014 14:51

Hahaha Baking ... will bear it in mind if I need a makeover Grin

sophiaheulwen · 18/07/2014 16:49

Youth Dew perfume - you can still buy this, apparently. All us girls wore that and the boys wore Brut. I used to mix rose water and witch hazel to make a toner. Didn't use a moisturiser at all as it was supposed to give you spots (thanks Jackie magazine!). There was also a beautiful perfume called Musk which you could only buy in the 'head' shop - it was the sexiest perfume ever.

QisforQcumber · 18/07/2014 17:00

Does anyone remember the TopsyTurvy ponytail maker? We also had one of those hair braid toys that just twisted your hair around Grin. This thread has made me so nostalgic I called my cousin to reminisce.

KatoPotato · 18/07/2014 19:21

Was the ponytail thing a loop that folded a pony tail back on itself? I had one of those!

Also those cones that you put round your pony tail and those banana clips that looked like him from Star Trek?

WallyBantersJunkBox · 18/07/2014 19:33

When slightly younger than teen, I used to fill an old litre lemonade bottle with water and rose petals and store in the airing cupboard. A few dabs of that made me smell divine I'm sure.

33goingon64 · 18/07/2014 20:23

I had those medicated face wipes in a pot with foil over that I loved piercing the first time. Think they were called Oxy pads, to help prevent spots. I can still smell them now...

QisforQcumber · 18/07/2014 21:35

Kato That's the one! My cousin had one, I had to make do with poking a hole in my hair above the ponytail and pulling it through Grin

I can remember impulse body spray called on fire in late 80's and miss Selfridge's used to do a purple lipstick called iron Lady, it was lush Grin
