The new loreal advert for hairspray got me thinking about my school days when Insette was the hairspray of choice. Hair never moved for weeks and you could practically snap it off. Vidal Sassoon that smelled like apples. Constant Carol that only did foundation in orange, oranger and orangist. Care to add yours Smile

Anne French - I still use it.
Astral - still use it (and so does Joanna Lumley apparently)
Pink mascara that made you look like you had an eye infection.

Not forgetting that every single perfume either was like gas, or was an assault on the senses. Exclamation!!

And of course Polly Papalotion (sp?)- they were long, hot pink foam covered wire that you used like rollers, they were great to sleep in. I threw mine away, gave myself a little afro with overzealous tight curling.

I remember going on French exchange and getting a bottle of perfume "Stephanie" over there and loving it. I'ts long discontinued, but most likely better in my memories.

TheHandbagOfGlory · 15/07/2014 21:35

I remember standing at the mirrors in the girls toilets passing round Pumpin' Curls and an Afro comb as we struggled with our home perms.

Also Vidal Sasson Pump and Go and hairspray, you had to pump the top to get the pressure up and then it sprayed kind of like an aerosol.

To this day my mum thinks all I need is a home perm (from her, not an actual hairdresser).

cardamomginger · 15/07/2014 21:38

Immac
Impulse body spray. Can't remember which flavour I had though. It was a red can. We all had different ones at school and you had to keep your can of it in your school bag (which was canvas and which had all the names of your favourite bands and crushes written on in biro)
Any hair mousse that left your hair rock hard and crunchy
Rimmel eyeliner on the inside of the lower lid
Aapri facial scrub or Body Shop Japanese Washing Grains, if you wanted to be flash about it
10 o 6 Cleanser. Unbelievable stuff. Can't believe it is not massively bad for you and the environment.
Shaders and Toners

Happy times....

Lip gloss applied with a roller ball applicator.

Lip lock (do they still make that).

Wet look gel for 80s perms

Only1scoop · 15/07/2014 21:39

Razzle dazzle

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 15/07/2014 21:42

I fell out with a friend over elderflower eye gel, she borrowed it and used it ALLAngry Angry

SillyTillyTilly · 15/07/2014 21:45

Elderflower eye gel. I'd forgotten about that.

cardamomginger · 15/07/2014 21:46

Roller ball lipgloss - ah yes! And it was mint flavoured.

Just watched the Limara advert Grin. I wasn't allowed to have Limara as my mother considered the advert 'too racy'.

SeaStrand · 15/07/2014 22:10

Yes! Bell that was it, Empathy!! haha brilliant, have been trying to think of it for weeks!

Silkience shampoo too..very 80s!

letsgotothebeach · 15/07/2014 22:17

Just remembered another - Village Lip Lickers lip balms in vintage style tiny rectangular tins with a sliding lid. Not many places sold them but they had great flavours and smells.

SeaStrand · 15/07/2014 22:22

I remember those letsgo…and Bonne Bell Lipsmackers…we were obsessed with lip balm and lipgloss at school!

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 15/07/2014 22:37

There was a perfume available from 'Miss Selfridge'; it was strong, I can't remember what it was called but I wish I could get it now.

Also, Marks and Spencer did a quad of blushers (three blushers and a highlighter), I loved those. Why didn't they carry on doing them?

I remember BonneBell lipgloss, windy days were a nightmare if you had hair long enough to blow into your coated lips!

PetiteBateau · 15/07/2014 22:57

Hint of a tint hair dyed
Directions hair dye

Jackie0 · 16/07/2014 09:38

I still use the body shop elderflower eye gel Grin

monsterowl · 16/07/2014 09:56

LOVE the reminders of Buff Puff and elderflower eye gel (which had to be kept in the fridge on the advice of Looks magazine).

Old ladies used to have lilac hair, but don't any more.

Elegance (pronounced in a dodgy french accent) shampoo for permed hair by L'Oreal. The advert had a woman describing (also in a dodgy French accent) how her boyfriend thought she'd had a new perm after she used it. I used to know all the words and my friend used to make me recite it, with much hilarity.

Drink this in: Just Seventeen image search. I remember virtually every issue pre-1989. Shocking to think that Philip Schofield was once a heart-throb.

Also, I remember that this model used to appear a lot in mags around the late 1980s. She was called Tess and I thought she was super cool. Also, the actress Colette Brown, who is (or was) in Holby, used to appear often in Just Seventeen and the like modelling stuff.

trevortrevorslattery · 16/07/2014 10:15

OOoOOOThemonkey O those razors ring a bell!
monsterowl thanks for all the Just Seventeen covers I was too scared to do an image search for "Just Seventeen" on my work computer

YY to thinking the models were super cool! I used to wish I was Terri Seymour - at least I think it was her. She used to be in Mizz or Just Seventeen a lot and now she is Simon Cowell's ex-girlfriend

darksideofthemooncup · 16/07/2014 10:24

Limara body spray. Patchouli oil and white musk from the body shop. Miners make-up, especially the white lipstick.

INeedSomeHelp · 16/07/2014 10:30

Twilight Teaser lipstick
Fuzzy Peach perfume from the Body Shop
And there was an early version of Lynx called Insignia - I used to love that. I bought my first serious boyfriend a gift set of it one Christmas - swoon!

monsterowl · 16/07/2014 10:41

Meant to say OooOooTheMonkey, I laughed out loud at the reminder of those round razors!

Dr Marten shoes (or at least the rip-off version from Saxone) with tartan ribbons instead of laces.

Those electronic manicure sets. WTF?!

thehappycrab81 · 16/07/2014 12:24

Body shop perfumes and So? Perfume (I still like it)
Body shop bath pearls! Loved those you could pick and
Mix, as you put them in a little paper bag .. They all smelt the same though lol.

l'oreal 'mattiques' foundation as no 90's girl would be seen dead in a 'dewy' foundation. Corn silk matte powder to go over the top. Just in case you were not matte enough!

Heather shimmer. Yes

Boots 'naturals lip tins' variations on the same mid red theme
Boots 'naturals body swirl body creams, that made you itch

Clairol naturals hair dye in 'cinnaberry' my staple.. Not sold here anymore but you can get from amazon imported from the USA.

Loreal hair mascaras!!! They never looked good or applied well but you thought you were the business.

Boots

thehappycrab81 · 16/07/2014 12:27

Oh yea, Revlon flex shampoo loved the Cindy Crawford ads and 'velvet' perm

Dones anyone remember henna bringing out those dye shampoos fir red, brown and blonde hair?

Organics shampoo

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 16/07/2014 12:35

Lynx insignia-omg I an instantly transported back to being 16 and lusting after anyone who walked past wearing itGrin

murphys · 16/07/2014 12:42

I am laughing at these.... because half the items mentioned I have sitting in my bathrooms or in the cupboard. It seems we are very behind the times here in SA.

In the kids bathroom is a bottle of Flex shampoo which I bought last week. Yes it does smell lovely. They also have a bar (yes we still use those) of white Lux soap. He he there is a bottle of Clean and Clear in the cupboard, bought for ds who has never used it.. And a tube of Studio Line Gel.. Do you not get these products in UK anymore?

Do you remember Lace perfume? I thought I was the bees knees owning a bottle, alongside the Anais Anais which I still have... Shock. And Moon Drops, you could get the deodorant and the cream in a Christmas box set.

monsterowl · 16/07/2014 12:54

Do you remember when Dove soap first came out, it was advertised on the basis that it contains moisturiser so you wouldn't need to use a separate moisturiser? And now they make moisturisers too. What a sell out.

Shield soap
Imperial Leather (can you still buy bars of that?) where you would eventually end up with just the label and a teeny bit of soap stuck to the back of it

sidsgranny · 16/07/2014 12:58

Blue mascara and Rimmel's "Twilight Teaser" lipstick! Classy!
