The new loreal advert for hairspray got me thinking about my school days when Insette was the hairspray of choice. Hair never moved for weeks and you could practically snap it off. Vidal Sassoon that smelled like apples. Constant Carol that only did foundation in orange, oranger and orangist. Care to add yours Smile

Ah the memories!
Charlie red
Creightons strawberry shampoo
Body shop ananya perfume oil and tangerine shower gel.
Rimmel heather shimmer lipstick.
Miss Selfridge nail polish which was a total rip off of Hard Candy, which was well out our budget!

I wonder what men our age would say? I remember the classroom smelling of Lynx, deep heat and Joop after the boys did P.E.

ladymalfoy · 15/07/2014 19:28

A huge yes to everything so far.
Cover Girl did a 2 part lipstick that was a powder colour then you'd paint a gloss over it.
However I too remember Cosmetics to Go. We phoned up after reading an article in Mizz.

WallyBantersJunkBox · 15/07/2014 19:33

Ohthedrama I remember boys getting into designer aftershave in the 80's too - everyone stank smelt of "Kouros for Men" Hmm

Rivercam · 15/07/2014 19:37

Not a beauty product, but everyone washed their hair twice.

Also, hair was either normal, greasy or dry. I still gave greasy hair, and never know what shampoo I should use now. Volumising? Shine? Brunette ? Etc

70's teen, I remember discovering little pots of kajal black kohl that came with a little black stick to apply it to your inner eye lid with, can't remember where I got it from but I wore it for years....loads of girls got styes after using it!

'Bully brown' lipstick from Rimmel I think, my first lipstick, applied thickly to get me into my first 'X' film when I was 14 or 15!

'Babe' perfume......god knows why....

shobby · 15/07/2014 19:48

Also remember desperately trying to find somewhere that stocked black nail varnish because Freddie Mercury started wearing it. In the end had to find a Biba shop that had some, you couldn't get it in ordinary shops just pink-red shades only!

Jovan Musk

SeaStrand · 15/07/2014 19:51

Loving all these..so many memories! My Mum hated me using Flex, she said it turned her stomach! She used a shampoo for women of a certain age (can't remember its name) which I remember she said I wasn't old enough to use (!!) I smile to myself now as I'm using a combination of Pantene's Age Defy and Youth Protect….hedging my bets.

No 17 cleanser with clay…sludgy, difficult to get out of its white bottle but actually seem to do my teen skin some good..gutted it was discontinued.

No17 Lemon Drench cologne..nearest I could find when I started working after it was discontinued was Lancome's O de Lancome.

One of the older girls we looked up to wore Blue Stratos.

Can't get over seeing that Limara ad again…brilliant!

SeaStrand · 15/07/2014 19:53

Buff Puff!!!

dawndonnaagain · 15/07/2014 19:57

My neighbour used to put my hair in pipe cleaners!
Outdoor Girl, Innoxa, Mary Quant, Biba make up.
I can remember going to Biba!
Harmony wash in/out hair dye, came in a triangular box.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 15/07/2014 20:03

Not a make-up but anyone remember Monty Donn earrings.
They had a crystal stud and a pear-shaped crystal drop with a tiny ribbon bow where they joined.
Worn with very 80s short hair ( but long at the front or side-swept a la Phil Oakey or the female singers from Human League )

I had a perfect 80s face (the hair, the cheekbones, the earrings, but you needed the make-up too. And I was thin in my size 8 skinny jeans )

OooOooTheMonkey · 15/07/2014 20:07

Bath pearls! I used to love these.
Dewberry body spray, I also liked the white musk and oceana one too. Purple or red hair mascara. Clean and clear pads that stung your face. Also the nose strip blackhead things that didn't work. Those razors that were round and you twisted the blade round for the next new blade. X

Ohwhatfuckeryisthis · 15/07/2014 20:11

gimmer here too. I loved Biba makeup but had to get dd to drive a long way to get it. Lemon drench! I remember putting it on at work (2nd floor) and attracting a swarm of wasps. (Sea, have a squirt of the new Guerlain citron verde)
In the 80s after reading the Face I was desperate to get a suitably pale face-all was orange. I bought bourjois white powder. I must have looked like coco the clown.

BlueThursday · 15/07/2014 20:12

SeaStrand · 15/07/2014 20:40

Ooh thanks Ohwhat I'll have a go next time I'm in the perfume dept!

Loved elderflower eye gel!

I remember mum pulling an embarrassed face when the Badedas ad came on!

OhTheDrama · 15/07/2014 21:06

Ah Wally my dearest dad still wears Kouros to this day! Think it was around 1984 that he started wearing it.

BellMcEnd · 15/07/2014 21:09

SeaStrand was it Empathy shampoo? God only knows why I can remember that but couldn't remember to buy bread today Hmm

chocoshopoholic · 15/07/2014 21:14

For me,
SunIn hair destroyer lightner
Charlie Red and Body Shop Dewberry perfume
Chocolate Lip Balm
Tea tree oil peel off face mask

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 15/07/2014 21:28

Yes, Empathy Shampoo (I was trying to find it but no joy on Google)

Hair over 40?
No hair falls out after 6 or so years. The scalp might be 40 though

NorksEnormous · 15/07/2014 21:33

Ah so many memories! The body shop was the best shop. I loved the bath pearls- there was like a little pick n mix section of them!
