The new loreal advert for hairspray got me thinking about my school days when Insette was the hairspray of choice. Hair never moved for weeks and you could practically snap it off. Vidal Sassoon that smelled like apples. Constant Carol that only did foundation in orange, oranger and orangist. Care to add yours Smile

BTW when trying to decide whether to buy beauty products in future, I'm going to ask, 'Will I make fun of this in 20 years?'

lisej · 15/07/2014 17:03

Natrel was the coolest deodorant to have in my school as well. I wonder who decides these things when you're a teenager? Although Soft & Gentle was also quite cool until we discovered it was tested on animals. Arrid was crap - made you choke and it would form into weird clumps under your arms and fall off throughout the day.

Body Shop raspberry ripple bubble bath and their cucumber cleansing milk.

Linco Beer shampoo (this was the business)

Organics shampoos and conditioners (mid 90s, green bottles, distinctive smell)

I used to buy Bourgois lipsticks and find myself to be very sophisticated as they came in very posh tubes. I was disappointed to discover recently that they are no longer in beautiful packaging.

FayeKorgasm · 15/07/2014 17:05

I remember spraying It by Lentheric in vast quantities when I was 11 or 12.

I loved the roller ball lip gloss.

When I was a bit older and feeling rich, I used to shop in Yves Rocher. I thought it was the height of sophistication.

Cocolepew · 15/07/2014 17:06

I thought Collection 2000 was relatively new Confused

Cosmetics To Go (Lush before they became Lush)

PetiteBateau · 15/07/2014 17:16

What about those banana shaped hair grips for doing a big side ponytail?

QisforQcumber · 15/07/2014 17:19

Does anyone remember Laval? My friend used to buy it all the time, it always smelled "off" but was about £1 a tube.

Vespre sanitary pads!!

notyummy · 15/07/2014 17:44

Oh yes to rimmel heather shimmer and v05 hot oil. Was mad keen on massive pots of lurid green hair gel too. And Anais Anais.

notyummy · 15/07/2014 17:48

Oh and apparently I used to smell of tcp because my mum insisted it was the best thing to shrink spots. I met a bf from my teenage years many years later and he dreamily reminisced about how the smell of antiseptic made him horny for years because he associated it with me.

I suppose that's a kind of compliment. hmm.

scottishmummy · 15/07/2014 18:12

Icantcook · 15/07/2014 18:16

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 15/07/2014 18:28

Vespre pads were the only thing to wear if you didn't want to wear Dr Whites thick mattresses Grin they smelled of pine air freshener but at least they were thin and discreet!

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 15/07/2014 18:30

Almay! What happened to them?

scottishmummy · 15/07/2014 18:34

I saw almay in a chemist really recently

WallyBantersJunkBox · 15/07/2014 18:41

Gosh I'd forgotten about the Body Shop cucumber toner.....

I bought the first edition of Just Seventeen. I think there was a nifty red comb on the front that could slide from "Afro" to "fine".

Did anyone else suffer hideous injuries involving an Afro comb and big plastic hoop earrings? Shock

I remember they did the first kind of "Street fashion" article involving their target audience. The first one was at a fairground. I was so jealous of those girls. Envy

RJnomore · 15/07/2014 18:52

Does anyone remember miss Mary of Sweden makeup?

You used to get it in massive pallette sets from the club book (possibly Kay's), they seemed to do makeup and also underwear which was possibly built for the older lady as it seemed to be entirely reinforced!

WallyBantersJunkBox · 15/07/2014 18:56

Don't remember the make-up, but I always remember the "Before & After" pictures of the lady with the elegant grey/blonde "updo" when I was looking through my mums catalogue to see mens nobs in the pants section

PetiteBateau · 15/07/2014 18:57
