The new loreal advert for hairspray got me thinking about my school days when Insette was the hairspray of choice. Hair never moved for weeks and you could practically snap it off. Vidal Sassoon that smelled like apples. Constant Carol that only did foundation in orange, oranger and orangist. Care to add yours Smile

Thank you thank you thank you for the link to Just Seventeen images. Off to bathe in nostalgia...

I am trying to find the "Rebel" perfume ad on YouTube but I am failing.

Was Shield soap the one that had the advert where the soap had an aerosol nozzle on the top? When it was pressed the streaks would run through the soap bar?

I loved the smell of Pears soap. You used to be able to nominate the Pears child.

I always thought the Vosene family looked so happy and wholesome. Then there was the Imperial Leather family in their individual baths. Confused

If you are joining the thread now, I've linked the Limara ad further down.Grin

1944girl I am a child of the 70s/80s but Grin at bathcubes!
how rubbish! Lovely and gritty to sit on in the freezing cold enamel bath we used to have.

monsterowl · 17/07/2014 13:30

Wonderful to be reminded of bath cubes. I saw them mentioned yesterday but have only just remembered clearly what they were. Also in the same family, surely, were bath salts (like pouring laundry powder into the bath!) and bath crystals :D I remember that bath crystals were especially popular to give someone as a gift, in a tasteful glass jar. I have some relatives who still have some on display in their bathroom, but the crystals seem to have solidified into one single huge crystal.

Remember how, in the days when people used soap in the shower instead of shower gel, you would get a solid and slimy mass of soap forming in the middle of the sponge?! Or (even better) on your loofah ... who uses them these days? Especially fun were the loofahs that were flat when you bought them but would expand to their full 3-D glory when you put them in water. No doubt many important marine habitats were destroyed as a result of the exfoliation needs of people in the 1980s.

1944girl, I think you are probably exactly the same age as me, so yes to fabulous pink Camay, panstick, Toni home perms "Which twin had the Toni?" - advert with twins sporting hair dos by skilled professional, no frizz fest to be seen. Bath cubes as Christmas presents.
Monsterowl, I was recently thrilled to discover, in our Mauritian hotel, packets of proper bath crystals with genuine grit factor.

Just Musk perfume. (stolen from mothers dressing table)

TractorTedMum · 17/07/2014 16:41

Re the Shield soap, seemingly this stuff made my mother projectile across a supermarket aisle before she knew she was expecting me Confused Even now nearly 35 years later if she even thinks about it, the smell or even just seeing a picture she goes a funny shade of green.... oops!

angell74 · 17/07/2014 17:31

Definitely Sun-In. Although in my case it was Orange In .... sigh why oh why!!

Rivercam · 17/07/2014 17:48

I seem to recall a white eye pencil which you put on the inside of your eyelash to. Make your eyes look bigger. Am I right in remembering that?

I tried on some Heather Shimmer the other day for a laugh and... reader, I bought it Blush It's actually a really good plain lipstick!

I do miss that Ananya stuff. Do they still sell it?

MIL bought me some Laura Ashley Lily of the Valleys perfume set for Christmas and it's surprisingly nice, even if I do feel like a 13 year old when I spray it.
