Style blogs for the over forties

I'm the wrong side of forty and although not mad about fashion, I like to look my best and make an effort.

Now, I've seen plenty of blog references here and I love 'does my bum look 40 in this' but the thing is, I live on the Staffs/Cheshire border and the 'London look' is a bit too edgy for a lot of people here (plus, I'm too fat to pull it off) so can anyone recommend any suitable style blogs?

ive had a look at Pinterest but can't find anything. Everything seems to be very edgy and young, sigh. Am I beyond hope?

Ooh interesting thread Smile I'll have a look at the pinterest pages listed.

fashion40ish · 22/06/2014 08:55

Thanks frillyskirt I like your boards so I have started following :) I hope Ladyfoxglove feels inspired. We all need regular help because it is so easy to give up and get stuck in a rut. I must add that if I photographed myself, in my current state, you would either run for it or wet yourselves laughing #notagoodlook. I am in a t shirt and old jogging bottoms, sweating and panting, because I am trying to do this bloody 30 day AB challenge! FFS. I can't, actually, do a sit up. I cheat.

I like poppy's blog too. I sneak a peak there every few days although I doubt I'd ever buy the same clothes as Im the opposite body shape, but at least what she is blogging about appear to be things she has purchased herself. Pretty much all the other blogs I read by young women in their 20's are always high designers that seem to be gifted to them all the time (not that they admit that). I'm sure we could all look amazing dressed in designer gear from top to toe.

Some fashion blogs are incredibly high end and these ladies are writing full time. They view their posts as a full time job and, I am sure, at the top end they are making some serious money. On a more humble level some revenue can be made but it is only a very small amount. I think it is fair to accept items of clothing, to review, as long as you genuinely like wearing them. I don't get involved, at the moment, but I reserve the right to change my mind if something really does take my fancy. I have been approached, by some companies, but the offerings are just not 'me' and it makes me wonder if they have even read my blog tbh? I have got something bubbling away but that would be promoting a local lady, that I know, who makes lovely accessories. I like looking at the high end images and then adapt it if I think I have clothing and footwear that can re-create a look (sort of, sometimes it looks a bit shite!) H x

I love some of the blogs that have been listed here and have started following a few.
I would love to find one for the over 40s where the blogger is more my size (16). I am trying to adapt some of the ideas I've seen but it can be hard (and a bit disheartening).

fashion40ish · 23/06/2014 06:40

INeedSomeHelp check out Avenue57 (latest looks) and look for PearTree. She is gorgeous, and I know her, and she always look chic. (She also has perfect, natural, hair) If you find her you can look at all her past outfits. xx

INeedSomeHelp · 23/06/2014 08:33

Thanks Fashion40ish - I have signed up for that site and am now following Pear Tree. Maybe one day I'll be brave enough to post my own picture!

BecauseIsaidS0 · 23/06/2014 08:42

fashion40ish, I read a article the other day that estimated the top bloggers' (Aimee, Chiara, etc) around $1 million, from affiliate programs, store appearances and sponsored posts.

KarlWrenbury · 23/06/2014 09:03

lurkingaround · 23/06/2014 10:22

See Karl, you never know where you'll find inspiration! Wink

SunnySideOfTheStreet · 23/06/2014 13:13

Hi fashion40ish - do you have a link for Pear Tree, please? I can't find her online.

INeedSomeHelp · 23/06/2014 14:41

Meant to say fashion40ish - I do like your blog but we're very different shapes

fashion40ish · 23/06/2014 15:05

Here is the link ( I hope as I am a bit crap at this ) www.avenue57.com/a57/user/2716/profile.aspx

fashion40ish · 23/06/2014 15:10

And thank you INeedSomeHelp. Don't pay too much attention to what you should wear for your' shape. You will know if it is working or not and, if in doubt, adapt tried and tested basics. e.g A chambray shirt and white trousers or jeans works for pretty much anyone (any age and shape.) I know I have put everyone from my Sister in Law (size 16-18) to my Mum (aged 81 and size 12-14) in them. I wear them myself and so does my little girl. x

Fashion40ish, you're my latest fave blog. We are the same age, height and size, but I don't get to wear jeans as often as you as I work Mon-Fri. Keep up the good work Ã?Ã?Ã?

SunnySideOfTheStreet · 24/06/2014 19:19

Don't stop with the chat - am loving this thread and Karl, you're my favourite! xx

FallonColby · 24/06/2014 20:05

Joanna wears clothes that she likes and does not dress for anyone else. By doing that her blog has it's own defined look and the style is consistent. I have lost interest in other blogs that have such a mishmash of sponsored blog posts that the blog has lost it's identity.

KarlWrenbury · 24/06/2014 20:56

i love you sunnoid

SunnySideOfTheStreet · 24/06/2014 21:51
