Style blogs for the over forties

I'm the wrong side of forty and although not mad about fashion, I like to look my best and make an effort.

Now, I've seen plenty of blog references here and I love 'does my bum look 40 in this' but the thing is, I live on the Staffs/Cheshire border and the 'London look' is a bit too edgy for a lot of people here (plus, I'm too fat to pull it off) so can anyone recommend any suitable style blogs?

ive had a look at Pinterest but can't find anything. Everything seems to be very edgy and young, sigh. Am I beyond hope?

I think I love you Floisme ;)

JustBecauseISaidSo · 17/06/2014 18:43

I say dress for yourself because it makes you feel amazing! I find that when you put effort into your appearance people treat you differently, they see you and not through you.

American mums are mostly dreadful to look at - they are mostly Amish KarlWrenbury!! Hollywood makes us think they are attractive and put together, far from it.

Blogs I like to look through (though they can be a major time suck)
Poppy is always fun
Kat has a great sense
Wearing it Today is my inspiration
Avril helps me when I am in a rut, simple ideas are sometimes all that is needed
Iva (Canadian blog Falling in Style) is really tall, like me and helps me figure where to shop. Loved her crop top post, I was surprised I liked it too.
Cookies and Candies is a feast for the eyes and she writes beautifully.

Keep rocking those jumpsuits Poppy's Style!!

BooToYouToo · 17/06/2014 18:46

Have you looked at www.avenue57.com/a57/lookhome/1/LookHome.aspx where people post what they're wearing each day so it's more realistic than aspirational.

MrsCampbellBlack · 17/06/2014 18:50

Nicely handled poppy.

You certainly need a very thick skin to be a blogger.

MrsCampbellBlack · 17/06/2014 18:51

I want a jumpsuit now.

midlifechic · 17/06/2014 18:53

Hello, Nikki from midlifechic here - I was wondering why my blog suddenly had so many new visitors and traced it to this thread! I just want to say a big thank you to MauraFedora for mentioning me. I've only been blogging for a couple of months - I don't do it to make money, it's just that I've hit the point when my youngest is going to high school in September and I need to try to get my own groove back. I live in the countryside and my friends aren't really into clothes so I'm relying on my readers to help me get it right and have a bit of a laugh along the way. Good Blogs that haven't been mentioned (I don't think) are www.schoolrunstyle.blogspot.co.uk, www.susiesoso.blogspot.co.uk and www.fashion40ish.blogspot.co.uk

Wow. This thread has taken off! Thanks for all the suggestions. Ive really enjoyed looking at Poppy's blog and myfashionable40s (which is pretty much how I dress now so feel at home there! I think it's really difficult to do fashion if youre an inverted v or apple shape. I sometimes feel as if Im all tits & shoulders Grin

Just had a look at the Poppy blog (it's a bit spooky actually, she looks exactly like an older version of my 21 year old cousin....) - love it! Also v jealous of her legs - if I had a set like that I would never ever times infinity cover them.

SunnySideOfTheStreet · 17/06/2014 19:25

Another tits and shoulders lass here. I think my "double" would probably be a rugby prop forward :). Also a Poppy fan- not always because of what she wears but because she writes so humorously and honestly. #gopoppy

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 17/06/2014 19:25

Exactly re P's legs.

Poppy, you have a great pair of legs and some of your outfits really help to accentuate them, as I listed below.

I forgot to mention ankle boots too - in a couple of pics you have opaques and heeled ankle boots, and that is a great combination imvho.

MyNewNormal · 17/06/2014 19:30

I'm loving My Fashionable 40s.

I dress for myself and since turning 40 have taken so much more pleasure in fashion and finding my style. For me it's to do with increased confidence in my 40s.

wannabeveggie · 17/06/2014 19:38

wannabeveggie · 17/06/2014 19:39

Ok dodgy legs but fabulous tits( big) and arse ( big) what should I wear ?

efeslight · 17/06/2014 19:42

Wow, never really looked at blogs before, but normal women wearing relatively normal clothes is quite inspirational. Does anyone know a fashion blog for shorter pear shaped people to link to? Have also just turned 40.

SirChenjin · 17/06/2014 19:43

Watching for any answers to wannabeveggie's question

SirChenjin · 17/06/2014 19:44

And efeslight - as am also a short arsed pear.

Kleptronic · 17/06/2014 19:47

Marking place. Er, for an, erm, column, because, y'know, I'm 27 really Grin

awaynboilyurheid · 17/06/2014 19:59

Not so keen on the poppy look , but like others have never read fashion blogs before what with mumsnet, pinterest and now fashion blogs I'm going to be busy

SirChenjin · 17/06/2014 20:03

What is that I smell Kleptronic? Grin

noddyholder · 17/06/2014 20:38

www.zara.com/uk/en/woman/dresses/jumpsuits/crossover-jumpsuit-c615001p2078060.html I bought this last week v flattering and elegant with strappy heels and hair up or with ballet pumps and more casual hair in the day. Everyone has liked (so far!)

Ladyfoxglove · 17/06/2014 20:49

Let's start the 'tits&shoulders' blog Grin

fashion40ish · 17/06/2014 21:10

Hello and thanks for the mention midlifechic. I am in my Mid Forties and I am a pear shaped size 10 with short legs, honest, who has mastered the clever deception of the reasonable photo angle. Pop by and see if you like by blog. It has only been going since March and I do it for a bit of fun. If you don't like it that is fine. :0) All I can say is that the over 40 bloggers are a fantastic, supportive and generally fabulous bunch. I could do a 'tits&shoulders' but my tits are a bit pathetic. That is what 15 months of breastfeeding does to you at 40 years of age!!! H xx p.s I have done a list of all the blogs I follow, too, if that is of any interest.

Ladyfoxglove · 17/06/2014 21:27

fashion40ish that's brilliant thanks. It's just so refreshing to see good fashion worn by older women, looking fabulous.

I read Poppy's blog and most of the others that have been mentioned via Bloglovin and have honestly never spent so much money on clothes! But I have a much better sense of what suits me, what works with my existing wardrobe and how to avoid making purchasing mistakes. I too have bought a jumpsuit recently (black tapered one from Matalan) and it's fab!
