Style blogs for the over forties

I'm the wrong side of forty and although not mad about fashion, I like to look my best and make an effort.

Now, I've seen plenty of blog references here and I love 'does my bum look 40 in this' but the thing is, I live on the Staffs/Cheshire border and the 'London look' is a bit too edgy for a lot of people here (plus, I'm too fat to pull it off) so can anyone recommend any suitable style blogs?

ive had a look at Pinterest but can't find anything. Everything seems to be very edgy and young, sigh. Am I beyond hope?

The dress. My eyes

dexter73 · 17/06/2014 16:56

At least it is an interesting blog - better than skinny jeans and endless scarves!

Gillybobs · 17/06/2014 17:02

I agree dexter, I think she comes across really well and occasionally looks amazing but too often I find myself wondering if she looked in the mirror before posting. Bless her.

Shopgirl1 · 17/06/2014 17:08

Poppy's style is so much fun, she makes some mistakes like we all do, but she has fun doing it and does gave someday ideas too.

My fashionable 40s is boring in my opinion, her fashion style and writing style, although worth an occasional look, she is good at copying photos she finds online and I did like the Isabel Marant like sandals she found a few weeks ago.

For me at the moment All worn out, Poppy's Style, dmbl40 & wearing it today are all the only ones worth a look. I love Eve on All worn out, she finds some treasures, as does Kat, although less so lately. I liked it more when the blog was more her style, now she shows a few things but her own style is totally different. Poppy for the fun factor, and Laura at wearing it today, a lot of things out of my budget, but good for inspiration and I have copied her denim jacket recently and j crew jeans.
Oh and the frugality is fun too. Younger than me, but I like her style anyway.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 17/06/2014 17:10

Nice that people are enjoying my pins - I wish I looked anything like my Pinterest boards.

Re: Poppy's Style - hadn't seen it before and I think most of it is absolutely awful, but it's interesting how much better she looks in jumpsuits or trousers than she does in dresses. Those shapeless, short dresses with bare legs do her no favours at all.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 17/06/2014 17:13

And it's strange, because she actually has really good legs.

Floisme · 17/06/2014 17:23

I would much read someone who enjoyed clothes and got it wrong sometimes to someone who never took a risk. Irrespective of age or size.

Algorta · 17/06/2014 17:24

Oh come ON, Poppy looks dreadful in jumpsuits. What about the pink one which was effectively just a massive camel toe below the waist?

Algorta · 17/06/2014 17:25

Not that a camel toe would be anywhere else

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 17/06/2014 17:32

Yes, the pink one is an abomination. BUT the one Dexter posted below, whilst a hideous item of clothing, is far more flattering to her shape than some of those monstrous baggy mini dresses.

KarlWrenbury · 17/06/2014 17:33

that floral dress aint doing her no favours either

KarlWrenbury · 17/06/2014 17:34

oh god or the square tunicy ones
I think in her head she is dressing a bean pole

KarlWrenbury · 17/06/2014 17:34

OMG THE PINK CAMEL TOE
stop her

Floisme · 17/06/2014 17:40

Sorry, I would much rather read someone who.. etc etc

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 17/06/2014 17:52

Right - having done extensive research on the P's style blog, I have discovered that she looks best in:
black skinny jeans
heels (but she has pretty bad taste in shoes generally)
fitted tube skirts and fitted Anglomania-esque dresses
biker jackets to nip her in at the waist

She looks much, much slimmer when she avoids lurid colours, loud 'crazy' patterns, ugly sandals and anything that doesn't go in at the waist.

KarlWrenbury · 17/06/2014 17:59

and fewer ripped jeans

HerRoyalNotness · 17/06/2014 17:59

She definitely suits a fitted bottom with a loose top. She needs to get rid of all those t-shirt dress type things. They don't do her any favours.

KarlWrenbury · 17/06/2014 18:00

the pink gap jeans - TOO TIGHT

KarlWrenbury · 17/06/2014 18:01

and agree with Remus - the camo thing - not chic

KarlWrenbury · 17/06/2014 18:02

mind you the average american MOM dresses like they are AMish

HerRoyalNotness · 17/06/2014 18:04

According to DH the average US mom likes to wear workout gear shopping. I was going for a run the other day and had some new running pants on, and a tank, as its so damn hot, and asked DH if I could got out like that. He said sure, that's how they dress down at the Galleria at lunch time (swanky shopping mall in town).

DS1 said, well maybe, they were out for a run and then they had to go buy something, so they did. Bless him.

SplatPancake · 17/06/2014 18:20

I think Poppy is a hoot - deluded but lovely.

You'd think with a walk-in wardrobe like that she could afford a mirror, all the same

dexter73 · 17/06/2014 18:22

Her wardrobe is enormous! She must have more clothes than John Lewis! I will admit to serious wardrobe envy! (Not the clothes but the room that is)

PoppysStyle · 17/06/2014 18:35

Thanks all - I'm so glad I've provided some amusement today - that is why I blog after all! I hope you find it an honest refreshing read by a woman who loves clothes, doesn't censor when it often goes wrong and never conceals my roller coaster weight. I'm 43 in August and hope to keep giving you all something to talk about, good and bad, for many more years! Xx

Floisme · 17/06/2014 18:38

I don't think Poppy is an american mom. She's from Bury as far as I can remember!

I also doubt whether she gives a shiny shit what we think. She wears what she likes and good for her.
