Here we are crepeys - Friday 13th!

OP posts:
motherinferior · 15/06/2014 09:33

I have attended a rather sedate but pleasant party, and had a child-free night. Grin

I love babies. But was a bit pants at the early stage with my own. If I'd been better at that it I'd have tried to cram in several more after my late start.Grin I still think I probably should have had at least one more, but it's definitely too late now!

Rose, the confidence thing in one's 50s can be v tough if one is outside conventional career structures, I find.

Rosebag · 15/06/2014 09:47

It's only 5k. I am a lightweight!!! I'm all ready with number etc pinned to from of t shirt. Just realised, looking at our just giving page, that not one member of my family has sponsored me [hmmm] Sad

Blackduck · 15/06/2014 09:59

Rosebag good luck!

Despite the child free night (very nice curry) he turned up at 7.00 for a clean pair of pants! So no lie in!
He made dp a cup of tea and some toast and has gone again.....

The party in a field was a saga as none of three children had the invite that had the vital directions on it - I had asked another mum to send them to me, but she hadn't!, so they were an hour late Shock but all good in the end.

lalsy · 15/06/2014 12:30

Ditto the lacking confidence and being outside recognised career structure. I am trying get a grip and use random events as a chance to practise, and if not enjoying saying sod it and going home....have also found volunteering with a very diverse group of people (in terms of careers) has helped me not judge myself by a tiny, rigid and self-defined criteria.

lalsy · 15/06/2014 12:34

Good luck Rose!

addle · 15/06/2014 13:42

Good luck Rose!

lovely baby news, Wilbur

CointreauVersial · 15/06/2014 14:44

How, just how, have I got a sunburned nose and decolletage when I didn't see anything but cloud and rain yesterday? Angry

Rose - hope your run went well.

Awww to all the baby cuteness.....

I have eight willowy and gorgeous 13yo girls melting chocolate in the kitchen. Lots of giggling (and presumably mess). DH has just found some spurious reason to go out for a couple of hours. Hmm

Rosebag · 15/06/2014 15:45

Ah, thanks all, you lovely women Thanks It was a lovely and deeply moving morning. Pics gradually going up on fb for those of you who can see them. They are very unflattering but , hey….

I don't mind being outside the standard career structure, personally. After over 20 years in the health service, I've done my time. What dents my confidence is when I find that what I do do, is undervalued and over looked… Hmm

originalpiratematerial · 15/06/2014 16:16

Well done Rose - lovely photo on FB!

SheherazadeSchadenfreude · 15/06/2014 16:32

Great photo Rose!

I asked the DDs where they wanted to go on holiday... they said Ostend. Confused

motherinferior · 15/06/2014 17:10

We are listlessly looking at places in the Vendee - any suggestions of nice cottages with a pool for a week in late Aug gratefully accepted! May blag review freebie holiday at half term. DP did mention the possibility of going away to do a week of You Know What at half term with the kids but somehow I think they will point out rather strongly that it's not for them.GrinGrinGrin

bigTillyMint · 15/06/2014 17:51

Well done Rose! And FWIW, I think your job is an extremely worthwhile one.

On our (slow) way back from Finchley (via Temple Fortune, which I never knew existed despite 27 years in London!) after a lovely day. The teens behaved impeccably, supervising/amusing the younger kids and we had a chance to catch up and have a lot of laughs with old friends who we haven't seen for ages.

bigTillyMint · 15/06/2014 17:55

MI we have stayed in Vendee a couple of times, though never in a cottage. A place called St Giles croix de la mer? was nice. Just below Vendee is Charente Maritime with presqu'isle d'oleron - that area is lovely.

Rosebag · 15/06/2014 18:25

AAArgh BTM , Finchley? You were only 10 mins away from where I am…. And Thanks for comment re job

bigTillyMint · 15/06/2014 18:41

I should have waved! I did wave as I passed MrsS'sGrin

bigTillyMint · 15/06/2014 18:42

Oops, St Giles Croix de Vie!

SheherazadeSchadenfreude · 15/06/2014 18:58

Was I standing shouting at a child in front of the window, BTM? Grin Or maybe we were at the "village fete."

I am quite tempted by a package to Spain for a week, if only because all of the schlepping around is done for you, but the place I want to stay, the only flight is the day after DD2 comes back from Texas, and I don't want a week of her being jetlagged and foul.

SheherazadeSchadenfreude · 15/06/2014 19:01

Perhaps DD1 and I could go on our own for a week while DD2 is in the US?

(DH does not want to come.)

lalsy · 15/06/2014 19:57

MrsS, is it a hot bit of Spain, where no one eats till 10 or 11 at night, and with lots of lolling and long siestas in the day? Maybe US time could somehow be blended into hot Europe time and she readjust gradually by moving siesta time (can't do sums, find time zones incredibly confusing)? Or go with dd2, is lovely being away with one dc...

BTM, is that where Pineau des Charentes comes from? I would love some of that stuff [helpful].

I love being outside the career structure, but do think it makes you easier to overlook and undervalue unless you compensate in some other way (extraordinary talent or blue hair or something)

herbaceous · 15/06/2014 20:22

Rosebag! I seem to be the only crepey not friends with you on Facebook. I've tried to work out who you are on other people's lists, but to no avail. I have a moustache.

I can't get any sense out of DP about when/where/if we're going on holiday this year, though it will probably be in the UK. I also want to get some work done, to build up some money before becoming impoverished student, as requested by DP, so will need to get DS into holiday club, which needs booking, so need dates.

Spent today with DP's family, as it was their first Father's Day without DFiL. All rather sad. And spent yesterday at my parents, re Fathers' Day, with my dad displaying more of his less pleasant traits - passive aggression, and outright anger - than his nice ones, which wasn't much fun either. Spent three hours driving yesterday, and four today. Now bushed.

BTM - I used to live near Temple Fortune! In Hampstead Garden Suburb, in fact... (another place no-one's ever heard of!)

cremolafoam · 15/06/2014 20:43

I'm not on FB either but I hope I'm still friends with all the crepeys.

MI we have a 1 bed apt ( sleeps 4 with sofa beds in living room) in Charente Maritime( indeed the cupboard there is full of Pineau )
It has a shared pool and is two mins from several plages
Pm me if interested. We leave it on Aug 20th .....

I am done in after 2 days in Winterfell
Nerds dot comConfused

bigTillyMint · 15/06/2014 20:50

I couldn't see anyone at any windows! It was about 6pmSmile

Herbs, I actually have heard of Hampstead Garden Suburb - saw a TV programme about it onceGrin

CremoEnvy - CM not nerds! And JOIN FB!!!

NUFC69 · 15/06/2014 20:52

We had many holidays in the Vendee when the DC were young and then went back there to a lovely cottage about six years ago with Dd, DS and DSil. It was idyllic: lots of room, swimming pool, orchard and duck pond (baby ducks had to be persuaded not to go in the swimming pool!). Most of our holidays were in St Giles Croix de Vie, though. Did we see you in passing, BTM?

It's been pretty miserable here again. We did manage a couple of hours at Beamish where DGS loved the trams. We'll definitely be going again as there is so much to see and do.

Still got toothache and don't have time to go to the dentist as friend arrives tomorrow.

Well done, Rose, on your run.

bigTillyMint · 15/06/2014 20:57

NU! I think we were probably there years after you! Would have been about 2006+

Toothache is bad news - never mind your friend!

QueenQueenie · 15/06/2014 21:09

Well done Rosebag!

Have survived hosting works Summer Party and am now slumped on sofa with a bonus glass of prosecco feeling v glad they've all gone home! Always like hosting parties because it means tidying the house up as a matter of necessity and enjoying the satisfaction of that... Think everyone enjoyed themselves...

You have never experienced Temple Fortune or HGS? Oy Vey BTM.
