A talking book sounds like a great idea! Or a CD of music that he liked when he was young?

Fingers crossed for Wilbur's friend. MI, what a small world it is. Again!

Having seen what dp came back with from Matalan clothes-wise he is getting a pair of trousers and a t-shirt for fathers day..... (sheesh he shouldn't be allowed out on his own)

So far today I have:

had knuckles rapped by client for mentioning money (apparently I shouldn't emailed people lower down the food chain mentioning my daily rate)

had ongoing row with the designer who thinks she can work two weeks after having a baby. Because we have moved heaven and earth to fit everything in EARLY for her. She has to design most of the magazine between now and 28 June. That means getting the first designs to me, to be agreed with the publisher, reworked as necessary, proofread and THEN circulated to the client. Who may or may not like them.

She's alleging that she cannot be pinned down to a timetable within these two weeks as 'things will get down when she's finished them'. I can't deal with this, as for one thing it just means the publisher will be constantly on MY back about it all. I referred her to the original delivery timetable we'd all agreed to. She says this cannot be done. OK, I rework, building in still enough time within these two weeks for first designs to come in with sufficient slack to kick off the rest of the process. She says grudgingly she will try 'but it's tighter than she's used to'. NO IT'S BLOODY NOT. I'm just trying to get some confirmation dates in there.

She makes me feel like a bully, but I feel she's being passive-aggressive about it all. I've circulated the timetable now, to everyone concerned...

Is it her 'pfb', MI? How anyone can work within the first two weeks of having a baby, I have no idea! Obviously I'm not a superwoman.

Poor dad, Crem. Talking books are good, especially if he has a portable CD player so he can sit out in the garden with it.

We have a quiet weekend. Some very enterprising mum, to whom I shall be forever grateful, decided that for Fathers Day, all the dads should take all the kids camping! So dh and dd2 are off with about 50 (fifty , L) dads and children for the whole weekend.... And I have the big two, who are way more content to lounge around!

Give that woman a large gin, Beachy. I heart her.

Yes, of course it's her PFB. I might be more tolerant (possibly) of her refusal to work to a schedule if (a) we hadn't moved heaven and earth for her idiotic plans already (I have repeatedly pointed out the idiocy of scheduling any work two weeks after having a baby. And I speak as someone who took a mere four (4, iv) months each time) (b) she was a particularly good designer (c) she didn't tend to say that all sorts of things (ie finding pictures outside a v small remit) "aren't her job".

I honestly do not think a schedule is a vile impossibility to impose. Angry

The rain has arrived at last - it's been threatening all day. I came back from the therapist to discover the wretched washing machine had stopped mid-programme; I then spent ages fiddling with it and eventually got the washing done and hung out on the line. I do think, however, that the machine is probably in its death throes.

This afternoon I visited three shops trying to get those incredibly exotic things called beansprouts! The first was my greengrocers and somebody had been in and bought their entire stock of the things; Asda has sold out too, but fortunately good old Waitrose came to the rescue. As I am doing a recipe where they are an integral part it was important that I got them.

MI, I can't believe your designer thinks that she is going to be able to work a couple of weeks after giving birth. (You can see that I am not of the school of thought that says some women give birth and then return to the fields to get on with their work).

Wilbur, how is your DF coming along? Any news yet?

DSis saw the consultant at A&E this morning and they took the stitches out of her arm to allow it to "seep". She is still popping ABs and has to go back to hospital on Monday for a review, all this is presuming that the infection is under control. DF's DD is improving slowly, although she is still very confused.

Hello crepeys - just marking my place! Will be back. Had a very busy week work wise, also drank too much yesterday (football-related) and all that has made it seem like a very long week.

Hello, new thread.

Any news, Wilbur? I've just been watching OBEM on catch-up; makes me so emotional every time.

I'm counting the minutes until DD1 gets back from Normandy (bus expected at 8pm). I now have two teenage children. Shock

I texted Wilbur and there was no news mid-afternoon

Shock CV.

Time to do the Friday ritual of egg and chips Grin with optional spinach and mushrooms (I bet you a fiver neither Inferiorette can be prevailed upon to partake of either of these...)

I am just chilling (despite DH watching footy) and waiting for our friends to arrive to pop open the fizz (they have good news to celebrate to do with work!) Meanwhile DS is coming back with a mate for a sleepover at some point and DD is coming back with 2 mates for a sleepover at a somewhat later point, I guess. It's scary (teenagers, I mean!) isn't it CV?!

Awaiting a pizza delivery. Stuff the diet!

High drama this afternoon. Well, for me. At a friend's house, all children playing in/around the paddling pool, when host's child lets out bloodcurdling scream - he'd cut his foot down to the tendons. We all had to leg it sharpish, while he was rushed to A&E. All fine now, but a bit nasty at the time.

Where's this induced baby then?

DH has gone out. We are having pizza delivered and a film.

Why are the cats so insistently loving when it's hot?

DD1's music teacher was back conducting a big school concert two weeks post birth. Shock She told me she scheduled her C section so that she wouldn't miss it! I, on the other hand, could barely get dressed two weeks post birth, and was living on tinned soup and biscuits.

Crem, would a CD with dd singing be any good for your DF?

Auriga, wish I could make it to St Martin's, sounds glorious. Hope it will happen again some time

Am drinking gin in a Fridayish sort of way, having complained to DS's school and now worrying about fallout

fingers crossed for your friend Wilbur/MI

DD1 is safely home, wolfed an plateful of dinner (apparently the food in France was terrible), opened her presents, and is now busily Instagramming the friends she last saw two hours ago.

Quite enjoying the football! I have a soft spot for the Dutch.

Hope it isn't something too awful for your DS.

Had a lovely evening quaffing prosecco and snaffling South Indian take-away. And of course, chatting with friends!

Hope there's good news on the Wilbur front.

DC's all appeared back here, wolfed some pizza and chips and then went out to buy drinks, which seemed to take a long time.... they are now all ensconced in the loftConfusedSmile Hope they are quiet tonight!
