My turn......

OP posts:
motherinferior · 16/05/2014 18:25

DP reminds me we have a bottle of cheap pink fizz so I have opened that in his absence. Also emailed someone to say 'look, this project is bonkers, YOU sort it out' (ie I am really not being paid much at all, and cannot spend ages sorting it out and can do without this hassle) and, more depressingly, had a run-in with DD2. Who is tired after Sats but also has a habit of shouting and bursting into tears which reduces me to tiptoeing round her, which I feel really shouldn't be the case with a 10 year old especially as I already do that with DP when he is in a bad mood. I feel constantly wrongfooted and that I'm just feebly trying to get things right, and I worry this will just get worse when she's a teenager (she is, for the record, a very tiny child for her age and has always been a bit like this, it's not teenage hormones!)

hattymattie · 16/05/2014 18:27

Gosh CV - Pagwatch is still around and I remember NoddyHolder although haven't seen for a while.

hattymattie · 16/05/2014 18:32

DS has just tried on DD's high sandals "to see how it feels". He has paraded up and down in camp fashion and says "If you were a boy you would want to know how big heels felt".Hmm

originalpiratematerial · 16/05/2014 18:37

Motherinferior Thanks. I think it's fair enough to cut her some slack in the short-term as Year 6 in general is horrid, SATs are so much more of a big deal now than they used to be and I bet she's getting wound up about September. Maybe you can sit down and have a "woman to [nearly] woman" chat over a nice plate of cakes when she's feeling a bit rested? Tis hard, though, I know. I sometimes I feel I spend my whole time not tiptoeing, exactly, but kind of managing everyone's mood - I'm not sure it's a healthy thing to do.

bigTillyMint · 16/05/2014 18:43

CV, I sense a degree of terseness around your DH's gardening abilities - know the feelingGrin

MI, sympathies. But pink fizz sounds good. Very goodEnvy

How are you feeling today Stropps?

bigTillyMint · 16/05/2014 18:44

Also meant to say, Rudy, that I pinched your tip (on a teenagers thread) and bought DD some flowers yesterday. They and the chocs I dug out of the cupboard seemed to cheer her up. ThanksSmile

SheherazadeSchadenfreude · 16/05/2014 19:41

We are all cross and shouty tonight, esp DH and I don't want to cook.

Stropperella · 16/05/2014 20:16

Grin @ the Parisian boyz in high heels.

BTM, I am currently mellow, thanks for asking. I have had a pint of real ale followed by a glass of Beaujolais. Not a standard combo, but it seems to have gone down nicely. I am rejoicing in finally getting a response out of one of the local FE colleges and it is v positive. Yay! They were not ignoring me; they were just busy. Foot not yet in the door, but there's a good chance it may at least be on the way there.

Dd had no exams today, but went into school anyway Shock as it was the last official day and there was much signing of shirts etc. Her form teacher cried (presumably from the relief of getting rid of them after 3 years) and gave them all cards and chocs, bless her. No one threw any eggs or flour (standard behaviour at end of Y11 round here) but the fire alarm did get set off several times and sundry other "pranks" took place. Dd has gone off to Pizza Express tonight with friends, although that was hanging in the balance earlier when she realised that the drawing all over her face (!) had been done in permanent marker. She scrubbed it raw (why did she not ask me for advice on marker removal??) and then said she couldn't go out. Did a quick cover-up job and she was good to go. I cannot tell you how pleased I am to see her go out with friends to celebrate something. Only 6 months ago, she would have "celebrated" by lying on the sofa watching crap tv and picking on ds. Is it too early to make statements about dealing with GCSE stress being the making of her? Probably... One week down, 3 to go.

Gardening - I luffs colourful weeds and so rarely remove them. I pretend they are there on purpose and in fact sometimes they are. I sometimes mow them and sometimes allow dh to remove them with a flamethrower, depending on my mood. I am a beetle-hugger, so like to leave everything all natural-like so the bugs will flourish. (Trouble is, the bastard chickens are now eating all the beetles) I do not care in the slightest about greenery flourishing amongst my paving stones. Dh is disturbed by the anarchy, but tough cheese. I also do not care about random things growing in the lawn, whereas dh is offended by anything that is not grass. As the main garden worker (dh often forgets we have 130 foot of it at the back of our house), I get the casting vote in all matters.

Will tell about my "wedding dress" from my 2nd wedding when I have thought about a way to describe it. When I bought some pink shoes to go with it, I joked to the shop assistant that I wasn't very good in heels, but these shoes looked like a safe bet and she nodded sagely and said "Arr, them's good drinking shoes". Not quite what I was looking for at the time, but they've come in handy since. Grin (I live in the southwest, for those that don't know).

Stropperella · 16/05/2014 20:16

Oops, mammoth post. That's mellowness for you.

Stropperella · 16/05/2014 20:22

Holy shit, I've just seen FB evidence that dd got away lightly on the face graffiti front. Several other girls in her class went all Conchita. Grin

motherinferior · 16/05/2014 20:26

I like the idea of Drinking Shoes.

bigTillyMint · 16/05/2014 20:32

Stropps, that's great news about the FE colleges. And your DD - fingers crossed that she's on her way upSmile Also like the idea of drinking shoes - need to see what they are!

Stropperella · 16/05/2014 20:46

Pink "snakeskin" mules with heels that are highish and thinnish but manage to be also very easy to balance on, regardless of quants of alcohol imbibed. It was therefore somewhat distressing when the House of Colour consultant told me last year that I shouldn't wear pink. "But my Drinking Shoes... !"

Dh: "I see you have your Drinking Shoes on. I won't wait up."

etc.

bigTillyMint · 16/05/2014 20:51

Stropps, you HAVE to wear them to the next meet-up!

Stropperella · 16/05/2014 21:01

Well, as they are now 10 years old, they probably count as "vintage" Grin

Ds has adopted "vintage" and "retro" as his new favourite words for describing anything that is a bit old and shit. cf: "I have a vintage gaming system"
He claims that if you describe anything that is old as "vintage", it immediately becomes cool. Wishful thinking or an emperor's new clothes moment?

MI, sorry to hear dd2 is so overwrought. I agree that the treading on eggshells thing is not good.

BTM, how is your dd now? Are her exams finished?

Sorry, I have gone from threatening to withdraw into my shell to extreme quacking. I blame CBT and its (for me) peculiar challenges. I keep wanting to run away from stuff, but that is Not Allowed.

motherinferior · 16/05/2014 21:09

I buy a lot of vintage. Sue Ryder, Sally Army and the hospice shop are particular faves.Grin

originalpiratematerial · 16/05/2014 21:19

stropps huge Grin and much liking for "drinking shoes"!

SheherazadeSchadenfreude · 16/05/2014 21:38

I LOVE drinking shoes! Grin That has made my night. They are obviously slightly lower than Cartobar shoes (think about it...) and less risque than Fuck Me Sling Backs.

Wine after beer is fine - as the Romanians say, "vin dupa bere e o placere".

I am very shouty. I think I must be due on. Everyone is breathing, even the cats, and it is annoying me.

QueenQueenie · 16/05/2014 21:48

Drinking Shoes! Very tickled by that concept Stropps... and PINK Drinking Shoes sound divine. My Drinking Shoes have a highish but rather sturdy heel - I just didn't know they were called Drinking Shoes until tonight iyswim. Grin

bigTillyMint · 16/05/2014 22:07

Stropps, your DS is right - vintage is the new second-hand round hereGrin
DD has the second halves of RE and Chemistry after half-term, but her worst worry was C2 and 3 so at least that's out of the way!

I haven't got any drinking shoesSad

originalpiratematerial · 16/05/2014 22:20

Me neither not, although I seem to be drinking quite fine in flip-flops tonight Hmm.

cremolafoam · 16/05/2014 22:32

I have drinking boots- kitten heel , unlikely to fall off or cause ankle to go over.Grin Def not party shoes of fuck me shoes. One must be able to exit a taxi with decorum when pissed upBlush

SheherazadeSchadenfreude · 16/05/2014 23:12

And not fall into the gutter face first, with ripped tights, grazed knees, bruises in funny places, vomiting copiously, Crem?

cremolafoam · 16/05/2014 23:27

Aye.
AhemBlush

Am very well behaved this evening. I have on the slippers of sloth < slothing slippers > and summery Jim jams. Happy-ness.
