Does anyone else not get bag love?

Right, Escargot, if I get trashed I'm blaming you Grin

Bags. Why?
Yes they hold your stuff and chocolate would melt if you kept it in your pocket. But Mulberry, Pashli, whatever, I'm sorry, they all look like something off Ashton market to me. Why, when there are so many lovely dresses and cakes in the world, do people get so giddy about them? Why all the gushing and the stroking? Thread after thread after thread....

It's not the price tags. I am all for spending money on beautiful things so please, no benches, holidays or new boilers. I don't even want to hear about your favourite charity. And bag lovers, please save your breath and your links; you have had plenty of chances to convert me and you have failed. I just want to hear from people who don't feel the luuurve.

I agree with you :)

Hurray Grin Any more?

DaftSkunk · 24/01/2014 10:49

I'm not a bag person, but do like a good dress....Grin

Kikithecat · 24/01/2014 10:50

They all look the same to me too. But then I don't buy dresses either.

FoxMulder · 24/01/2014 10:50

Yeah, I'm with you. I have one bag. It holds my things. I couldn't be doing with moving them all from one to the other all the time!

Floisme · 24/01/2014 10:51

The 'Hurray' was for you, MirandaWest
Hassled there are plenty of other threads. This one is ours Grin

Me!! What's with the whole bag/shoe thing? Are there people who really even notice what others are carting their stuff around in, or what they have on their feet? Confused

Vixxxen · 24/01/2014 10:56

It is like having your nails beautifully done.
I feel that a nice handbag and having beautiful nails transforms your whole look even if your hair, outfit and shoes are shit...well wait the shoes have to be somehow nice too, but it can be battered up converses not cheap fake nasty uggs.

escargot · 24/01/2014 10:58

Oh I say! You bounder! Grin

I don't get bag love - at all Confused

I totally defend anyone's right to spend money on whatever they want but I don't get it myself.

My friend has a bag that's almost bigger than her and it looks trashy. It screams 'I want you all to know I can afford a bag with this xxx label'.

I was with said friend when she hissed and pointed at a bag on a chair "that's a Kelly xyz" she squealed, "it's worth a few grand!"

I clung to my £45 Antler bag and felt slightly sick - not because she knew the cost but because I realised the poor old duck with the bag would have to buy next season's every season because there are some people 'in the know'. Yegads!

AgathaF · 24/01/2014 10:59

I don't get it either. I have a couple of everyday bags and an evening one, but only for the convenience of taking stuff out. If I'm wearing a jacket or coat, I'm just as happy to shove my phone, keys and bank card in my pocket really.

MadBusLady · 24/01/2014 11:04

Me! Love shoes and dresses, totally don't get bags.

I recently convinced myself to spend £100 of JL vouchers Shock Shock on a naice brown handbag, because I felt a bit shabby walking round with peeling old £25 Accessorize jobbies. And yeah, it's nice and does the job but it's my ONE handbag (apart from an evening clutch) and I'll use it till it wears out and then get another. If I really need a black one, a peeling Accessorize jobby comes out again, but I rarely do.

Floisme · 24/01/2014 11:06

The coloured ones are the worst. They make my teeth ache. And those stupid gold chains...

OP posts:
Bowlersarm · 24/01/2014 11:11

I agree with you.

I only have one handbag for day to day use,and a smart evening one for smart evening do's. Only replace them when they look knackered, about every 2/3 years. I couldn't do all the faffing about transferring everything across all the time.

My handbag is a Mulberry one though, so I am probably masquerading as a handbag worshipper which is entirely not the case.

escargot · 24/01/2014 11:11

Yo flo we can go halves on this! media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/originals/e0/9f/03/e09f03632942e93f1a25b5f2d5bb0540.jpg

MadBusLady · 24/01/2014 11:12

I don't mind them too much, at least they stay on your shoulder. I can't stand all the buckles and other bells and whistles though. If you clank as you walk, you probably look like a prat.

MadBusLady · 24/01/2014 11:12

I don't mind gold chains, I mean. Not leopard-print monstrosities from the deep. Shock

Floisme · 24/01/2014 11:13

Escargot thanks for your support Grin That link made me laugh out loud!

OP posts:
escargot · 24/01/2014 11:14

Oh yes, clanking whilst walking is a definite no-no!

I don't like the ones you have to carry in the crook of your elbow. No use to man nor beast.

AbouttoCrack · 24/01/2014 11:16

I don't even HAVE A handbag.

I am rural and go everywhere in my car. I guess my car is my handbag. Car is a shit tip though.

AgathaF · 24/01/2014 11:16

Charms, scotty dogs, plastic monkeys - what's with all the crap that people hang from their bags?

escargot · 24/01/2014 11:17

You're welcome flo shall we do shoes next week? Grin

Floisme · 24/01/2014 11:17

Don't get me started on clutches. A bag that won't let you eat and drink at the same time, who the hell thought them up?

I agree. To spend £1000 on a handbag. Or even more. It's madness. But last year I bought a new bag. Cost me £70 reduced from £90. I thought should I or shouldn't I. It was a lot for me to pay for a bag. I did get it and I'm glad. But it's double what I've ever spent before. I was going to get another one and I thought why bother all this transferring from bag to bag. Life's too short.
