SugarHut · 06/01/2014 17:26

Hello....not a stealth boast, more of a quick, help me not look like a chav....

A friend of mine is in handbag shop right now. He's just text me saying would I prefer a "Chanel Quilted Caviar leather Flap bag" in black, red, white or gold.

What do I have? Discounted red as I have a red Lulu Guiness clutch. Is white chavtastic? Do I go classic black, or nudey gold? Both I have loads to match, outfit wise. Help quickly please!!!! What's best?

Googled them...I presume it's the small one. He doesn't know me that well to spend loads.

TIA!!! x x x

The Chanel Bag is a metaphor clearly Grin

QueenCadbury · 08/01/2014 17:24

sugar I'm not sure that people are jealous. I'd love a Chanel handbag but I'm not jealous at all. However I think even you have to admit that showering someone you've only known for 9 days with gifts is a little odd. Yes, he can afford it, blah blah, but even in the 'real' world if someone I'd known for 9 days started buying me loads of 50p gifts I'd be a little freaked out. Friendships can be made really quickly but I don't think that you can compare this 9 day friendship with you treating your best friend to a spa day.

If anyone doth protest too much, it's you. But if you're truly happy with this friendship and gifts then that's all that matters Smile

propertyNIGHTmareBEFOREXMAS · 08/01/2014 17:26

Well fair play to the guy, he made two good choices colour and size wise. He won't have got much change at all from £6k for the pair.

HelloBoys · 08/01/2014 17:28

No Mignonette - we're all POOR. apart from 1% of MN who includes SugarHut.

Bless her. sings "she works HARD for her money, so HAAARDDD for her money" LOL

Mignonette · 08/01/2014 17:31

Hello Gin

Being sported by a Towie is a kiss of death for certain brands. They work very hard to keep their products away from the Orange ones and are not amused when they see one of them brandishing an item from their latest collections.

Kind of devalues the brand.

Back when I was young and beautiful I had a friend who bought me Prada. No reciprocal payment expected until he professed he wanted to tie me up and have anal sex I kept the shoes but never saw him again.

Mignonette · 08/01/2014 17:38

I know. Below the belt but a useful weight loss tool I find.

Mignonette · 08/01/2014 17:39

Not that i am in anyway suggesting that you are in need of this Anni Grin

Annianni · 08/01/2014 17:41

:o

ranoutofnames · 08/01/2014 17:41

I'm no longer a fan of Lulu Guinness bags as they sell them in TK Maxx now

Lifeisaboxofchocs · 08/01/2014 17:47

i remember you sugar hut! i think it was about your nanny? cleaner? can't remember the detail. Just remembered chuckling.

What would possess you to post such a thread on mumsnet? Seriously, admit to having money, and you get such shit from so many on this site. It's ridiculous. There should be a separate section, entitled 'For people with money. Not necessarily loaded. But spend more than £14.60 a week on groceries. and f*king prod of it!". I made the mistake of once asking about private schooling. Big. Mistake.

Lucky you I say. Two chanel bags. Gorgeous. I am stroking my marc jacobs as I write this. Not really a handbag person at all, in fact this is only my second really nice one, but when you have a beautiful bag and stroke that sublimely soft leather, damn it... it feels good!

Mignonette · 08/01/2014 17:49

We have our own thread on here in which we discuss our purchases and not once has anybody ever made a bitchy comment about what we spend.

Tone, dear, it's the tone.

MissBeehiving · 08/01/2014 17:53

Life - you obviously don't frequent the S&B boards enough - if you did then you would know that this is so not about the money. We have plenty of people who spend plenty of their own money on beautiful things. Sugar would have received a totally different reaction if she'd said "I can't decide between these Chanel bags - which one should I buy?"

Lifeisaboxofchocs · 08/01/2014 17:53

The other thing is, and this will sound horrendous to some, I totally get where you are coming from in terms of being 'treated'.
I lived in London (before moving out with the children) and you meet a guy, you like him, he likes you. He is stupidly rich. He treats you. It really isn't a big deal. For most people it would be the equivalent of the guy taking them to the cinema and for a pizza. A nice gesture, but nothing to write home about. I have been spoilt rotten in the past, offered to be flown out by private jet to Monaco, showered with gifts. It really is not a big deal. It is courting. But with shit loads of money. SOmetimes the guys are twats, but then again, some times guys are twats who offer you nothing but a packet of pork scratchings from your local.

Lifeisaboxofchocs · 08/01/2014 17:54

MissB, you have a problem with the OP because it was a gift???

MrsCampbellBlack · 08/01/2014 18:02

Anyway, if he calls again ask for the 2.55 re-issue much more understated.

And the one I will buy one day [curses self that unlike everyone else I can't afford one/have a charming gentleman who wants to buy me one] Wink

Sugarhut - are you Jodie Marsh? Wink

AmberNectarine · 08/01/2014 18:03

If this were about spending one's own money I'd be cowering in my shattered glass palace by now. It's not.

Mignonette · 08/01/2014 18:04

This is rinsing. Not being 'treated' because he is dazzled by her wit, charm and personality.

Rinsing and the people who do it have built in obsolescence. It is called ageing.

AmberNectarine · 08/01/2014 18:04

If he calls again ask for a Bottega Veneta and have some class.

MissBeehiving · 08/01/2014 18:04

I don't have a problem with gifts, I have a problem with paying for sex.

Sugar is not naïve, this may be a gift, but it's a gift with expectations. It's absolutely courting - he knows that and I think Sugar knows that there's a hope from this chap social inadequate that there's something at the end of it.

She's quite happy to use his hard on to get 2 bags - if that is what she chooses to do then it's up to her, but don't dress it up as anything more, purlease.

The "oh, I'm such an innocent lap dancer/model/whatever, a man I've known 9 days wants to buy me 2 Chanel bags, because we're just friends etc etc" just doesn't wash really does it?

Mignonette · 08/01/2014 18:07

Amber

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Don't encourage them to befoul the discreet stylish labels.

Sugar

BUY CHANEL! BUY VERSACE! BUY CAVALLI! BUY LULU GUINNESS! BUY ARMANI!

Mignonette · 08/01/2014 18:09

Buy whatever Alex Gerrard/Colleen Rooney carries.

A hallmark of class, that.

Allice · 08/01/2014 18:11

Having never been in that situation ever I can't imagine how that must be, apparently no one wants to treat fat 40 years olds!

Anyway, if you don't like either bag I'll take it from you, I'm very kind like that!

propertyNIGHTmareBEFOREXMAS · 08/01/2014 18:15

I generally like Alex Gerrard's look. And Cavalli. Draw the line at Pucci dresses though Grin.
