Hello....not a stealth boast, more of a quick, help me not look like a chav....

A friend of mine is in handbag shop right now. He's just text me saying would I prefer a "Chanel Quilted Caviar leather Flap bag" in black, red, white or gold.

What do I have? Discounted red as I have a red Lulu Guiness clutch. Is white chavtastic? Do I go classic black, or nudey gold? Both I have loads to match, outfit wise. Help quickly please!!!! What's best?

Googled them...I presume it's the small one. He doesn't know me that well to spend loads.

TIA!!! x x x

What's rinsing?

Mignonette · 08/01/2014 18:18

Oops.

Some of Cavalli is good. But I did cringe at those photos of Gerrard and her children tarted up in the most obvious of labels.

This is probably my favourite ever Karl Lagerfeld quote:

"I think tattoos are horrible. It's like living in a Pucci dress full-time. If you're young and tight, maybe it's OK, but…"

Agree that the children look overdone.

You must be a brentwood girl.

Pumpkin567 · 08/01/2014 18:51

What an interesting thread!

It's not very classy to behave in this manner. Buy your own darling.

I'm confused is OP lap dancer/ porn star/ prostitute? What Do lap dancers earn? not the top 1% of earners, I can bet

Err no bitching about posters on the S&B threads I use generally.

Far more everywhere else on MN.

You get what you give out.

AmberNectarine · 08/01/2014 19:00

I don't really give a monkey's if she's found some arse daft enough to throw his money at her. The two things that annoyed me were a. Starting the thread to get attention and b. all the protestations of 'innocent friendship'. None of us were born yesterday. It is what it is and if you don't want to hear negative opinions don't plaster it all over the internet.

OhCaptainDarling · 08/01/2014 19:06

Gordon Bennett......!! This I knew this thread would go like this.

All I can really say, is - 4k on handbags! Really. If some idiot give me 4k worth of hand bags, I'd flog them on Ebay and go on a lovely winters holiday, bloody sick of all this rain.

But then I'm not materialistic much

Sad to see S&B go down this way Sad

Lifeisaboxofchocs · 08/01/2014 19:22

It is jealousy. Lies the root of much of the bitchiness on mumsnet. So many just can't get their head around the fact that some people have money, and like to spend it on holidays, private schooling, handbags.....

It really pisses people off.

Specialbrew · 08/01/2014 19:22

Thanks Amber for your opinion on what is and isn't classy Hmm

Can you let Kate Moss, Kristin Dunst and Alexa Chung know that Chanel isn't classy if your paths ever cross?

OP I hope you like your bags when you get them, I love mine (a Bordeaux reissue, and navy classic flap). And I get great pleasure out of using them.

And last thing, can I suggest you use Purse Forum when asking about high end bags? You'll find a diverse and knowledgeable group of people to give you advice there, and none of the snideness you've experienced here

ShreddedHoops · 08/01/2014 19:24

Well this thread has been an eye opener to how nasty some posters can be! Sad, confusing and shocking, I'm still trying to work out why this has made Amber and Mignonette and a couple of others post in such a vicious and horrible, condescending and put-down way. Shock Shame on you. Sugar has come across as nice, witty and bright, and the posters who have insulted her in a really childish manner are showing themselves in a different light. 'Have some class'? So you can have expensive stuff as long as you're posh, is that it? Enlighten me. Or only if you buy it yourself? Which is it, pray tell? Why has she brought out the talons? It's hardly nethuns to suggest that some of the swipes aimed at the OP are through snobbery, jealousy or some sort of 'you don't belong in designer land' thinking.

AmberNectarine · 08/01/2014 19:33

I meant 'have some class' as in have a classy bag. I was not referring to the OP. I have not inferred anything about her socio-economic background as I know nothing about it, so I'll thank you for not implying that I have. Chanel have become the bag 'du jour' of late and thus lost a bit of cachet, IMHO.

The OP gave more than as good as she got in terms of the things she said to me. If you post about a controversial subject like this on an Internet forum you open yourself up to some flaming. There was no need for her to come on here bragging about it.

AmberNectarine · 08/01/2014 19:37

And the OP herself admitted she thought they were a bit naff!

Lifeisaboxofchocs · 08/01/2014 19:37

There are a lot of wealthy people out there who enjoy buying stuff. Period.

AmberNectarine · 08/01/2014 19:38

In her OP she mentioned she was being bought a Chanel bag by a man who 'doesn't know me that well'. That was opening a can of worms, wasn't it?

SinisterSal · 08/01/2014 19:39

oh life you come across as very naive

AmberNectarine · 08/01/2014 19:40

Oh, enough with the jealous.

ShreddedHoops · 08/01/2014 19:44

Honestly Amber I don't know why you came on just to attack her - there is room for different kinds of people on MN - as a fellow handbag lover, you could have recommended BV or whatever in a nicer way rather than being snide about it, which I don't think you can deny you have been.

And the faux concern for OP's wellbeing from some others is just weird. Not actually trying to advise or sympathise, just make digs about her decision to accept the gifts.
