Hello wise ones, I hope you can help.
After wearing a 34B for the last 20 odd years, I have followed the advice on this forum and remeasured. It turns out I'm a 30D Smile
I have been happily wearing a couple of Sainsbury's
32D's for a few months (on mat leave, so I've been a bit skint)
So, my problem is, my Dh bought me FIVE bras for Christmas in my new size,.. But they are from M and S (I know..) and they are all massive. I'm wondering how their sizes come up ? should I swap for a smaller cup or should I just get him to get his money back and go elsewhere Hmm ?
Thanks in advance ladies

Good old John Lewis :) served by a really lovely lady

StatisticallyChallenged · 12/01/2014 17:09

Have you got the usual post-intervention problem of spending lots of time admiring your new boobs?!

Gileswithachainsaw · 12/01/2014 17:14

:o I certainly will be when I get home

Bra Update

My figleaves parcel of bras arrived and they don't bloomin fit! I ordered sizes 32 E/F/FF.

The Lepel Fiori balconette style was HUGE in the cup size. The Just Peachy by figleaves was so tight round the band, I couldn't do it up. Their intimate range fitted, 32 E but only just in the cup. I might keep that one. So I'm heading back to M&S to get their 34D bra, which fitted!

Gileswithachainsaw · 14/01/2014 16:26

Oh no. :( you were so excited and then site looked full of lovely bras.

StatisticallyChallenged · 14/01/2014 17:36

I've not heard particularly good things about Just Peachy. TBH for working out sizing I'd tend to stick to one of the more reliable brands - panache, freya etc - and work from there.

Are you scooping? If a 32E only just fits in the cup I doubt a 34D will have enough cup space in reality.

ButterflySandwich · 14/01/2014 18:06

A M&S 34D though. Such a shame they didn't fit plus its going to cost me sending them all back!

ButterflySandwich · 14/01/2014 18:11

My shape is flat on top, set wide apart, fuller on the bottom. Thats probably why the M&S fitted, it was a plunge padded one

SorrelForbes · 14/01/2014 19:21

Really? It's unusual for padded plunge styles (e.g. moulded) to fit those that are fuller on the bottom.

Just Peachy come up tight in the band, IME. I'd try a Lepel Fiori again in another size IFIWY. The full cup is still quite balconette in style but seems easier to fit for some reason.

ButterflySandwich · 17/01/2014 12:53

Shock £9 to return those bras to figleaves grrrrrrrr

But I've just been back to New Look and got 3 bras in the sale, padded push up/plunge ones, in 34D for a princely sum of £12. They fit well and if I suddenly lose loadsa weight and go back down to a 32, then I haven't spent a lot on bras (if you don't count the returns...Angry)

Hemlock2013 · 17/01/2014 12:59

Hey, can I hijack please? I have read these bra threads and re measured myself. Previously a 34a and re measured as 30d.

I bought a couple of m&s in the new size and they were way too right and the cups way too big??

I have gone really wrong somewhere haven't i??

Thanks in advance for any help

StatisticallyChallenged · 17/01/2014 15:06

M and s sizing is a bit dodgy.

SorrelForbes · 17/01/2014 19:19

What style bra was it?

PurplePansyPoppet · 17/01/2014 20:37

I have no idea how I've been sucked into this, but help please...

I measured 30.5" pulled tightly below, and 36" when dangling.

I ordered a 30E Bravissimo Alana.

When I tried it on backwards I had lots of space under the band. When I put it on the right way round the cups and wires were in the right place but weren't properly filled. I scooped like mad, but still ended up with the cups looking full at the bottom but a bit empty near the top with excess fabric where the lacy bit is (although the very top of the cup where the top line of brading is does fit well).

I guess you're going to tell me to try a 28" but which cup size? I don't have much breast volume at the top so I'm also wondering whether I have a style problem with the Alana...

I never thought I'd be discussing this in public....

StatisticallyChallenged · 17/01/2014 20:44

I think it might be a style thing - the alana used to be very good for empty tops but I think they have tweaked it a sniff.

I'd suggest trying something like the Bravissimo Mademoiselle (or any of their half cups), or the cleo juna or maddie. More of a "proper" balconette with not too much fabric further up the chest if that makes sense

How much space do you have under the band? Can you pull it more than 2" from your body?

I'd be tempted to try a couple of different ones and try the 30DD, 30E, 28E, 28F. It's hard to tell if the alana is actually too big in the cup or of its style, and when you are first figuring out your size it's often better to try several neighbouring sizes so you can see and feel the difference

PurplePansyPoppet · 17/01/2014 21:08

Thank you!

I've just ordered lots to try. I could get two whole hands with room to spare under the band so definitely a bit more than 2"!

Like lots of people on here I'm staggered that I may be a 28E or F as I've been merrily wearing an M&S fitted 34A...

SorrelForbes · 17/01/2014 22:45

What style bra was it?

PurplePansyPoppet · 18/01/2014 08:30

T'was an Alana. I'm now persuaded that it was both a size problem and a style problem and have ordered loads more to try. Who'd have thought it was all so complicated!

InMySpareTime · 18/01/2014 08:36

I ordered a 26F from Made In Preston, it was a good fit in the band but a bit of quad-boob so I exchanged for a 26FF, eagerly awaiting its arrival. If that's a good fit I can see myself spending a considerable sum there.
Ah, to have more than one bra that fits, luxury...

InMySpareTime · 18/01/2014 08:44

Sorrel, what site did you link to for 26 back bras? My web filter says it's pornographyHmm, could you give me the name of the site and I'll look on a different wifi...

Hemlock2013 · 18/01/2014 08:46

Hi sorrel, was a t shirt bra? Thanks

SorrelForbes · 18/01/2014 10:14

Hemlock2013 a moulded one? They are notoriously hard to fit as they don't mould to your shape. Try a balcony the unpadded shape. TBH M&S bras are just a bit shit!

SorrelForbes · 18/01/2014 10:15

I'm sure it was Made in Preston? I'm in my phone today so unable to check my favourites.

SorrelForbes · 18/01/2014 10:15

Oh sorry, another site?

SorrelForbes · 18/01/2014 10:15
