Hello wise ones, I hope you can help.
After wearing a 34B for the last 20 odd years, I have followed the advice on this forum and remeasured. It turns out I'm a 30D Smile
I have been happily wearing a couple of Sainsbury's
32D's for a few months (on mat leave, so I've been a bit skint)
So, my problem is, my Dh bought me FIVE bras for Christmas in my new size,.. But they are from M and S (I know..) and they are all massive. I'm wondering how their sizes come up ? should I swap for a smaller cup or should I just get him to get his money back and go elsewhere Hmm ?
Thanks in advance ladies

CK have a nice underwired halter on brastop. The pants aren't 50s but it might work well with a plain back bottom

SorrelForbes · 09/01/2014 22:09

The Moonlight one? It's vey nice, I'm tempted. I wonder if it comes up small in the cup like some CK bras? I like the matching fold brief too. I might just order and see how it all fits!

StatisticallyChallenged · 09/01/2014 22:20

Mind ck pants are often stupidly small too!

Statistically I am breastfeeding and I measure 32 and 39
I've got a 30 G and 32FF they are too big for me now. I don't have a big gap in the centre of the breasts and they are bottom heavy.

Also, I am short and if I pull the straps shorter, they dig in my underarms, but if I don't they are too lose.

StatisticallyChallenged · 10/01/2014 07:29

I'd suggest starting with a 32f. For close set boobs plunges are normally good and you will probably like ewa michalak too

ButterflySandwich · 10/01/2014 13:08

Sorrel- I've just had a fitting at M&S. In posts above, we worked out I was a 32F/FF, so I ordered lots of bras to try from figleaves (still awaiting), but in meantime had this fitting booked in so thought I may as well go. They said 34D. Their padded plunge bra fitted nicely in that size. She insisted I wasn't 32F and wouldn't get me one to try on! She got me 32D and 32DD to try, and they were too tight across the band. 32E gaped on the right boob. These were all padded. The ones I've ordered from figleaves are all non padded. Confused now! Why is bra fitting so complicated?!

StatisticallyChallenged · 10/01/2014 13:15

Read our reviews of marks fitting on the blog. They are clueless muppets. Really. Never get fitted in marks.

I'm a 30hh who they try to put in a 36f

ilovepowerhoop · 10/01/2014 13:32

M&S add extra inches to the back measurement. You would have felt the band too tight on the 32D and DD as your breasts were 'stealing' some of the band as the cups were too small. I get bras from M&S sometimes but dont get measured at the same time so just take a selection from the stands and go and try them on by myself.

Statistically can you please link to said blog?

Watching this thread with interest even though won't get a chance to act on it as am 7 months pregnant at the moment (and not looking forward to horrid nursing bras!)

StatisticallyChallenged · 10/01/2014 19:20

blog link

StatisticallyChallenged · 10/01/2014 19:22

P.S. you don't have to wear nursing bras. So long as they fit well, underwires are an option - you can buy drop cup converter kits on ebay, a little easy sewing and you have a pretty underwired feeding bra

Gatogris · 11/01/2014 04:58

Thank you Statistically will have a look at those and also 32E, because my current 32FF have plenty of room, especially at the top, because my breasts are bottom heavy.
I love the curvy kate ones, but I don't think they suit my breast shape. The underwire goes very low on my chest, but then again I am short.

Stevie77 · 11/01/2014 17:34

Thanks Statistically. I'm ok with non wired, as I'm not that well endowed I just hate the ugliness of maternity bras and hoe most come up really high on the chest - there's no need!

teacherwith2kids · 11/01/2014 17:38

I'm just marking my place. I have to measure DD for her first bra....

As the picture on the blog doesn't come up for me, could someone describe the 'lean forward' measure? How far to lean over? Back parallel to floor? At 45 degrees?

Also, if she - as I suspect she will - comes up as a 24 or 26 back, what do I do????

Back later with measurements...

SorrelForbes · 11/01/2014 17:43

Bending over so your back is parallel to the floor.

Your options are to buy a 26" band from here knowing that she'll soon outgrow it or buy a 28 band in a brand that comes up small (M&S Limited and Debenhams Gorgeous both spring to mind) and then adjust the band by sewing or using Rixie Clips .

teacherwith2kids · 11/01/2014 17:50

Thankls. She's an early-sprouting tall-but-slender ballet dancing 11 year old, and need something plain...

I've been browsing M&S for plain bras that look enough like 'the crop tops that look like bras' to avoid embarressment to an early developer, while actually fitting and supporting someone who spends a lot of time per week in leotards or costumes that show off every hint of a curve. Oh, while avoiding the 'helpful' assistant who said 'oh, just take the measurement and add 4 or 5 inches'...

StatisticallyChallenged · 11/01/2014 17:56

Depending on her measurements you could consider some of the sports bras? They tend to run small in the back too so might be an option and some are very crop top like

teacherwith2kids · 11/01/2014 20:10

That's a really good plan.

Having measured her, I think we'll get away with a 28 - she comes up as 26-27 - and a sports bra would be just her type of thing. She's been wearing racer-back crop tops for a little while, and those have worked well. 28B starting point, methinks (It has been hard to measure bending forward as she's shy about the whole thing. Tbh I think she'd be 26C if such a thing existed, but 28B looks like a realistically-available place to start.)

Gatogris · 11/01/2014 21:27

Stevie Go to brastop and get some cake lingerie and hot milk too, not all nursing bras are boring.

Gatogris · 11/01/2014 21:29

Stevie The reason why most nursing bras are so high in the chest, it's to provide support for your breasts, usually the underwire would do that.

Stevie77 · 12/01/2014 11:36

Thanks Gatogris, will check out Brastop!

Gileswithachainsaw · 12/01/2014 14:36

If anyone is still following and interested in the giles bra size revelation the answer is....

36 D Shock

SorrelForbes · 12/01/2014 15:15

Grin where did you go in the end?
