Hello wise ones, I hope you can help.
After wearing a 34B for the last 20 odd years, I have followed the advice on this forum and remeasured. It turns out I'm a 30D Smile
I have been happily wearing a couple of Sainsbury's
32D's for a few months (on mat leave, so I've been a bit skint)
So, my problem is, my Dh bought me FIVE bras for Christmas in my new size,.. But they are from M and S (I know..) and they are all massive. I'm wondering how their sizes come up ? should I swap for a smaller cup or should I just get him to get his money back and go elsewhere Hmm ?
Thanks in advance ladies

If in turn it round t feels ok. A little right maybe but it's on it's tightest setting.

If I scoop there's no over spill in this bra but it's on it's way if that makes sense.

I have two balconett style bras and there's definately overhang with those. They are tighter too despite being the same size Confused

I also have one massively padded one which I barely fill but it's still a B.

I've only ever been measured in m&s or la sense though and all my bras are la senza and tbh I've had maybe one or two from there in years that ever properly fit to what I think fitting is anyway.

:o usually aibu is the entertainment not a bra thread

SorrelForbes · 06/01/2014 18:55

OK, bras should always be on the loosest hooks (to allow for stretch through usage over time). How tight did you do your under bust measurement? I wonder if a 34 might be better for you?

Different styles will always fit differently and I'm not surprised that your balconette styles are clearly too small. It's much easier to spot in that type of bra. The padded one sounds like more of a moulded style? These are very difficult to fit as they don't mould to your shape. Many people get gapping at the top which leads them to believe the cup is too big.

Gileswithachainsaw · 06/01/2014 19:03

sorrel

I think you are bang on with the padded one. It did always seem so huge even though it bulges one side but had a massive gap the other.

I'm really intrigued now as to what my actual size will be :o

Might have to report back Sunday and let you know if your DD prediction is right. And I will definately try all bras from now on not just grab one in "my size" and wear it regardless.

StatisticallyChallenged · 06/01/2014 19:42

Another soon to be shocked person :-)

Gileswithachainsaw · 06/01/2014 19:52

statistically are you going to get yourself done too? :)

ButterflySandwich · 06/01/2014 22:32

Can I hijack? After 18 months of wearing maternity/nursing bras, I was so looking forward to new bras but cannot find anything that fits!!!

I measured myself last month and this month, both times comes up as 30F/32E. Those cup sizes are waaay too big. I bought 3 t-shirt bras from Debenhams in size 32DD in the end, they're so tight around the band that it's left a graze at the back. Spent an hour in M&S today and decided that their lace non padded full cup 34C was very comfortable, but so different to what I measured myself as, that I didn't buy it.

Any suggestions? I think my left boob is larger than the right, which is the problem probably...

ButterflySandwich · 06/01/2014 22:41

I was measuring using sizemapp. Using the betterbra one:

Under 31

Over 38.5

ButterflySandwich · 06/01/2014 22:44

Does that make me a 30/32GG? Hmm

SorrelForbes · 06/01/2014 23:41

I'd try a 30FF/G and a 32F/FF.

Debenhams come up very small in the band. Tshirt bras are hard to get a good fit with as they tend not to mould to your shape very well. Have you tried a balcony style instead? Are you scooping with vigour?!

ButterflySandwich · 07/01/2014 06:47

Thanks Sorrel. Yes I'm scooping vigorously! I've always gone for t shirt style because they make me look better under a t shirt.

What brands and styles would you recommend? Should I try non padded?

ButterflySandwich · 07/01/2014 06:56

Hang on! 32F/FF? Shock I'll be swimming in that cup size!!!

SorrelForbes · 07/01/2014 07:17

If you like plain bras try the Cleo Juna and the Panache Idina balconette. I'd order a variety of sizes in each in a 30 and 32 E/F/FF and take it from there. I think you'll be surprised how differently a non moulded style fits.

So I'm on figleaves. To order 7 bras, in 3 sizes of each, is going to cost £376!!!!

ilovepowerhoop · 07/01/2014 13:06

why not just order a couple of bras in the 3 sizes to get an idea of what size is best and them order others at a later date

ButterflySandwich · 07/01/2014 13:22

I've taken it down to 5 now, one navy bra in 3 sizes (figleaves intimates non padded balconette), just peachy figleaves non padded balconette in 3 sizes each of white and black, and lepel fiori full cup in 3 sizes each of white and black (£264). They're all sale price, that's why I'm getting so many.

I intend to send a few back and I maybe won't mention it to the other half Grin

SorrelForbes · 07/01/2014 14:26

The Lepel Fiori is a lovely bra (I'm sized out now but used to wear it a lot) and the full cup is actually quite balconette in shape.

Don't be surprised if the black versions are tighter/smaller than the white. It's something to do with the dye!

Gileswithachainsaw · 07/01/2014 15:07

butterfly you had to mention fig leaves didn't u and I had to google there was some lovely stuff. I'm going to have to order some once i have more of an idea what size fits best. Never thought a person could get so excited over a bra size Blush never before MN had I realised just how important it could be and the difference it might make to how clothes actually look over the top.

ButterflySandwich · 07/01/2014 15:56

Well if you've been wearing Genie bras (Blush ) for the past 2 years like me, you'd be VERY VERY excited about bra shopping Grin

Gileswithachainsaw · 07/01/2014 15:57

Genie bras?

LAK11 · 07/01/2014 16:07

Sorry to hijack, but does anyone wear Freya Rio? It is being discontinued and I need an alternative. I have 2 Fantasie bras which are also discontinued and I am beginning to despair. Any advice?

StatisticallyChallenged · 07/01/2014 16:10

Ha ha no Giles I'm one of the crazy bra ladies who intervenes random strangers...

teta · 07/01/2014 16:14

I'm another one wearing Genie bras Blush. They're so comfortable.I'm currently wearing 36c M&S bras which don't seem to fit.The underside digs in my armpit and I have armpit fat bulging out.I've measured myself up thread and I am 33 under and 41 over. What does that make me?I don't look enormous but have ''wide" boobs for want of a better term.
