queenc I know you know what I'm going to say. wear the shorts! they will look fab with the top and opaques, you are NOT too old!

Sleepwhenidie · 04/12/2013 10:05

Hmm - I'm not sure about the shorts either Queen - usually I am a 'go for it and bugger your age' sort of person but I tried on some very nice leather shorts in Maje last week and felt the same way. So it probably boils down to how you feel in them, I think that gets transmitted IYSWIM! Weird one though as I wear skirts (with opaques) that really aren't much longer than the shorts were Confused.

Lib I think KM looks rough too and she has definitely had lots of 'help' - maybe not surgery but definitely lots of needles involved in advance of that evening! You can't really expect to live the life she did and come out looking glowing though!

foxysocks · 04/12/2013 10:08

sleep what is the sizing on your all saints leggings like?! WINTER gets 20% off until tomorrow, I might order them....

Sleepwhenidie · 04/12/2013 10:13

They are very soft and stretchy, not at all grippy - not like AA ones with lots of lycra if you know what I mean? So for you I would probably go for a 6 which would feel clingier than an 8 but still comfy.

MarshaBrady · 04/12/2013 10:17

QueenC the shorts would look fab with the sequin top. Although I tried on shorts to go out the other week and decided not to. I think it's the shoe problem for me. I feel so strange in shorts and heels. So if you have some that you feel comfortable in, go for it.

KM was so beautiful when she was younger, impossible looking almost, I'll forgive her now. Trouble is someone said she looked a bit like a certain soap actress and now I see that. Still she is/was a stunner so she even does that well.

Dry I love your dressing up pics Grin

Mignonette · 04/12/2013 10:17

Liberty I think the biggest change wrought by growing older is that we subject ourselves to detailed forensic examination looking for changes wrought by time. KM though is a good example of what heavy smoking and smokey environments do to the bloom of the skin and its tautness. She does have that smokers look. Plus booze and decades of drug abuse. She must have permanent jet lag too.

I have never noticed hooded eyes on somebody but again know full well that if it glares back at you in the mirror, it causes a disproportionate amount of hmmm. I have noticed my jaw line is getting 'squared off' and I keep thinking it makes me resemble a snapping turtle. Do others notice? Probably not. Except when I act like one!

I do think some cosmetic work is more imperceptible though. Little nips and tucks seem better than injecting stuff into skin and subcutaneous tissue. I have heard that plastic surgeons train on the severed heads of corpses. Maybe the fact that they have been preserved w/ embalming fluids inures them to what 'normal' flesh looks like when it is full of fillers Xmas Grin?

So if I had anything done it would be little lifts and stuff like that rather than injectables.

MarshaBrady · 04/12/2013 10:19

Fillers are the worst imo. Chubby little hamster cheeks.

Mignonette · 04/12/2013 10:22

Yes, that shiny glazed 'Tiny Tears' look.

LinusDKD · 04/12/2013 10:35

I have hooded eyes as well but they don't bother me enough yet to have anything done about it.

If I was in the market for some 'work' I would avoid going to the plastic surgeons that have done some famous people like Madonna, Daryl Hannah, Meg Ryan, Roberto Cavalli (I saw some pictures of when he was a young guy, he was gorgeous), Mickey Rourke, etc.

I am sure people like Helen Mirren and Meryl Streep have had something done but it is so subtle that they still look like themselves instead of melted barbie dolls.

Mignonette · 04/12/2013 10:44

Helen Mirren has had work done. I know somebody who has seen her in the waiting rooms of various establishments.

QueenC, the shorts sound fab! I'm wondering how to style my Coast top actually.

My 3 pairs of Goldsign jeans have arrived, and although I love them all, I can't decide which to keep:

I've got 2 pairs of misfits (straight leg, really), and 1 pair of Lure (v skinny). The Lure are black, feel amazing, but H thought they looked like leggings. The Misfits are in grey and dark denim. I thought I'd want the grey, but I'm not sure when they're on - I'll try to post pics later. The denim ones are great, but not sure if they're not quite skinny enough at the ankle. Does anyone else have them? What do you guys think?

These are the links:

NYE - another non-fan. I'm usually feeling pretty jaded by then anyway, and just craving some normal routine. This year I've suggested some friends come over with their kids and the kids sleep over (they live nearby so can walk home). They did the same for us in the summer, and it was awesome not having the kids in the morning Grin.

Mignonette · 04/12/2013 11:37

My brother may be coming over with my nieces for NYE and a weeks holiday. They are having to drive because the airlines are a bit Hmm about my niece flying. I think he's nuts but he just wants to do normal things like other parents do.

I like the denim Goldsigns Carrie and I think they have some room for bulkier boots underneath. It may be because they are extra long in the ankle that they look wide?

I'm trying to decide what to wear for Christmas day. Its a semi-glam affair at MIL's, I have worn a dress most years, but I can't really justify that Alice & Olivia dress, lovely as it is..what are your thoughts on this top with my black suede j brands and gold heels?

foxysocks · 04/12/2013 12:54

I think that would be a GREAT outfit, sleep. thanks for sizing advice, i think i will order later today

carrie i adore goldsigns but haven't tried either of those styles. i can see what you mean about the fit around the ankle. can you post pics to the MNV board later so we can see what they are like on you?

have you tried the virtual high rise skinny? they are amazing. i would not be without my grey ones, I wear them about three times a week.

carrie74 · 04/12/2013 13:03

Thanks All - I'll post pics later. TBF I think all the jeans would fit into my boots quite well, but I'm worried about that baggy effect on not-quite-skinny-enough jeans. Only got a quick trying on sesh last night, so will do more tonight (and post pics).

Foxy, no Virtuals in my sizes at the prices I'm looking at.

Sleep that outfit sounds tremaze - LOVE the top.

Sleepwhenidie · 04/12/2013 13:08

Thanks Foxy - have ordered to try - see if the sleeve thing doesn't drive me metal!

Also ordered this which I could wear with skirt as an alternative. Only a medium left unfortunately but we will see....

Sleepwhenidie · 04/12/2013 13:10

thanks Carrie - will keep you posted.

I am getting very cross, stuck at home since SR waiting for couriers, I want to go to the gym and I'm not going to get the chance now...bah humbug - flippin' Christmas!!

OneLittleLady · 04/12/2013 13:13

All this talk of 'procedures' has got me marveling at my own miraculously wrinkle free forehead I think though, I've just been really lucky as I've never consciously done anything to prevent wrinkles of any kind.

Sleepwhenidie · 04/12/2013 13:16

One - you're a baby - you shouldn't have any wrinkles! Love the new hair colour btw, really suits you.

Sleepwhenidie · 04/12/2013 13:24

Who was lusting after my gold JBrand heels? Zara's only gone and copied them Hmm - I started to get all outraged and righteous but then recalled how many copies of Choos etc that I've bought there myself .
Anyway...here they are, £60 - humph.

justasecond · 04/12/2013 14:23

Marsha you are so right about the hamster cheeks, I really wonder why people go for that look because I am unfortunately "blessed" with chubby cheeks. I have the face of a much larger person anyway and when I put on a bit of weight it all goes on my cheeks! I am told I will be grateful to have them when I am older though although I suspect they will just sag Grin
Also really hate NYE, makes me feel a bit depressed actually about the passing of time and not knowing what it is in store in the next year.
SleepI saw those Zara shoes a couple of weeks ago and thought they looked like your lovely Jcrew ones, bet the Zara ones are bloody uncomfortable though.
Queen the leather on the Le pliage cuir did not look v durable and of course the bag is v unstructured anyway. Agree the current colours are not great, I really loved the dark grey from last year. I think if you are not 100% confident about the shorts, you will not feel good wearing them.
I am just going to "google hooded eyes" not sure what they look like.

justasecond · 04/12/2013 14:25

sleep both outfits are great but think I slightly prefer the black top and beaded skirt - that is gorgeous.

Mignonette · 04/12/2013 14:28

I'm going to brag. I'm 47 and I have no forehead lines yet. I have dry hair and dry skin though on my arms and legs and nothing gets rid of it.

I don't dress up any more on Christmas day. I can barely bother to dress so busy is the day. My kids are threatening to make me wear a festive sweater but the ones I have seen are all acrylic and I am NOT getting spendy on a novelty item. I will probably wear a light shirt (dark colours because of spitting goose fat) as get really hot cooking and a pair of cig pants or dark indigo jeans. My one concession is really cool shoes so the Sophie Webster or Caroline Issa dancing shoes with tassels and Pom Poms may come out
