I start a new job on Monday and really want a lovely stylish new diary for Christmas but can't quite find the right one. Can't afford smythson so don't even think about it!

Oh and I have been looking at Filofax but thought having one might be a bit twattish.

No. Well, probably, yes, but I don't care and I love mine with a passion. It is red and leather and beautiful and useful and just all round perfect. HTH Grin

Whitecat · 16/11/2013 21:10

I have one that is red and leather, bought from a dodgy geezer in a bar in the 80s at the height of stripey shirts and young and upwardly mobile types. I still love it and use it periodically. An investment rather twatish.

Dilidali · 16/11/2013 21:16

Can I suggest you an alternative?
Moleskine ones are brilliant.
I use the ones which have the whole week on one page and a plain page on the right (for lists/ideas etc). I prefer the soft cover ones. The paper quality is beautiful. Comes with stickers. I absolute love them.

Rosencrantz · 16/11/2013 21:18

Another vote for Moleskine. My pillar box red one is gorgeous!

Lilliput · 16/11/2013 21:18

I have had a molskine and did really like it but would like something with a more funky cover.

I have seen the red one though.

Oh, and congratulations for the job :)

googlenut · 16/11/2013 21:22

No Filofax come in lovely colours - dh got me a purple one last year and I love it. Never occurred to me it could be twattish

Lilliput · 16/11/2013 21:23

Thanks! Very excited Grin

I love mine. It is brown leather and 3 years old. I don't care if it is twattish.

pepperrabbit · 16/11/2013 21:48

I had my first Filofax for 20 years then last year treated myself to a new one - I have a Finsbury personal size in red. It is truly lovely Smile
My old one was still perfectly serviceable just not big enough to fit my life in once I acquired a DH and 3DCs.
I don't really care what anyone else thinks - mine makes me really happy!

SconeRhymesWithGone · 16/11/2013 21:49

Congratulations on your new job. I have a fuchsia Filofax that I love. It gives me such pleasure and makes work more fun. Also, I really need a loose leaf diary.

This thread reminds me I need to order the 2014 calendar.

MillyRules · 16/11/2013 22:16

I have a small one and its a lovely brown and orange flowery pattern. Love it. So cute but I am quite loving this one

Aren't they a bit redundant in the days of accessing your emails and calendar on your phone?

Depends what kind of job it is of course, but if you have to use a computer calendar like outlook, you'll find the double entering a bit tedious.

But otherwise, not twattish.

Would you like to buy mine which was used briefly until I discovered the above Grin

pepperrabbit · 16/11/2013 22:29

I use mine to run the family. I'll only put work in it if I'm in a different office or some such. Otherwise it's full of reminders, children's parties, random shopping lists, builders quotes... and it never requires charging and doesn't beep at me Grin
Also my clumsy fingers mean I tend to text and type in something close to Swedish on my phone. I don't speak Swedish.

Lilliput · 16/11/2013 22:32

Mine is a paper trail sort if job and it's just the way I work. I am a list and post it note kind of a gal.

I have a black leather one, I don't think they're twattish but neither are they fashion statements at this point. I have an ipad & smartphone, but I want all important details on paper in case either goes lost/stolen/bust.

SconeRhymesWithGone · 16/11/2013 22:55

I am reasonably tech savvy (almost all of my work files are digital), but I like having a real touch and feel diary and notebook. I also keep a lot of personal and family information in it.

MamaLoveCRJT · 16/11/2013 22:58

Twattish!! Lol!! Paperchase do lovely diarys!!

CherryColl1ns · 16/11/2013 23:04

Filofax? Not twattish but the 1980s are that way

Fozzleyplum · 16/11/2013 23:07

I abandoned my Filofax for one of these www.paperblanks-diaries.co.uk/

Lilliput · 16/11/2013 23:20

Ooooooo....they are lovely!

I have a black leather filofax - love it, and you've just reminded me I need to get a new calendar for 2014.

PoshPaula · 17/11/2013 08:25

I love my Filofax and have used it faithfully for nearly 20 years. So much cooler than a tablet, in meetings...
