I start a new job on Monday and really want a lovely stylish new diary for Christmas but can't quite find the right one. Can't afford smythson so don't even think about it!

No experience with Lakeland? Oh, you are in for a treat. I'll get on to checking out Innovations later, I need to make some lists first before making tomorrow's packed lunch.

Perspective21 · 19/11/2013 20:11

PoshPaula wish I had a like button...love it.
As it happens I do have a large chest, toast pincers from Lakeland but no insulated cup or banana guard. I think this is because I mostly eat my lunch at home.

Perspective21 · 19/11/2013 20:13

But I do have Penguin classics pencils, beautiful they are...hope you
Pack a lovely lunch...

PoshPaula · 19/11/2013 20:16

Perhaps pop them on your list for the next big shop, perspective? Hold on - you go home for lunch? Full respect! Really mumsy!

PoshPaula · 19/11/2013 20:18

perspective you're taking this to a new level. I hadn't even started on stationery! Or going home for lunch! You could get a wash on while you're there!

Perspective21 · 19/11/2013 20:24

I am fortunate enough to be a SAHM as last DC is not school aged yet;this is perfect for me as I stock stationery that pleases me! For a short while, when I returned to work as a TA, I had a beautifully stocked pencil case, beloved by the children!

I'm afraid, if I ever were to be employable again, I'd take my own kit Smile

PoshPaula · 19/11/2013 20:33

Aha, that explains the toast pincers. Handy for the kitchen. You sound highly employable perspective. Do you have the little gadgets to keep socks together in the wash? I do.

When using my Filofax I use the ruler to cross through tasks I've completed. What a blousy mumsy twat.

Perspective21 · 19/11/2013 20:39

I wonder how I have managed without the sock gadget?!
I think using your Filofax ruler is a fab idea. I like to cross things out in a contrasting colour, so very twattish I'm afraid...but my family is beautifully organised, so I don't give a stuff...

PoshPaula · 19/11/2013 20:43

a contrasting colour
Yes!!
The highlighter pen is another essential - for identifying those key tasks...

GetYourSocksOff · 19/11/2013 21:19

"what a blousy mumsy twat" that just made me spit out my wine.

Brilliant.

I don't cross mine out with a ruler, I just use the tick box. But I bloody love the to-do sheets. I love lists. sometimes I write stuff on that I've actually just done so that I can smugly cross it off who said that Hmm

YoniTime · 19/11/2013 21:27

I love lists too. There is no better way to organize one's thoughts and to do's than to write a nice list on real paper!

PoshPaula · 19/11/2013 21:40

socksoff I do that too! Do you work in the public sector by any chance? Middle management?

SconeRhymesWithGone · 19/11/2013 21:44

sometimes I write stuff on that I've actually just done so that I can smugly cross it off who said that hmm

I do that.

whereiseveryone · 19/11/2013 22:20

Ooh no, paper diaries bring me out in a cold sweat...

iPhone and Google Calendar/Email/Contacts all the way here!!!

GetYourSocksOff · 19/11/2013 22:39

hehe poshpaula you're scaring me a bit. We had a conversation at lunch the other day (lead by a guy who I suspect knows/fantasises far more about this sort of thing than I ever want to know for sure) about people who can see you through your webcam. He wasn't talking about my mum on skype. Was he right and are you one of those people? You know too much....

(sadly think you may have disproved your own point that you can't judge a person by their paper diary though, dammit)

SantiagoToots · 20/11/2013 04:44

I think BlousyMumsyTwat might be my next NC, it's got a lovely ring to it.

I'm off to Google the Lakeland now. and maybe browse Per Una

Ah packed lunches - when I worked out of the house I always took a packed lunch. Why waste money and be at the mercy of the shops? These days I work at home so I tend to make a wholesome and hearty soup.

Now I don't want to get you all frothing at the bit unfairly, but - I'm in the middle of not only a house move, but a country move! Imagine the lists!

VestaCurry · 20/11/2013 05:09

No they're fine, I like the ones that hold your ipad one side and Filofax inserts on the other. Might get myself one actually.

PoshPaula · 20/11/2013 09:30

Oh wow santiago you will be able to make lists with sub-sections, lists from lists, you'll need to highlight and cross out (it's best if you use a ruler for that, keeps it neat) and add in revised dates...

SantiagoToots · 20/11/2013 10:32

Paula I'm so pleased to have found you - I never knew what the Filofax ruler was for - but of course it's for crossing out!

I have so many lists - I have lists of lists which need to be made! I suppose an easy start with colour coding would be per country right? There are 4/5 to be traversed.

Look! It's a saucepan and blender in one !

PoshPaula · 20/11/2013 10:41

Nice, santiago. I notice on that page there is also a 'Soup 'n' Sauce' bag. That could be really twattish to use in the staff room at work. There are a few blousymumsytwats who use the microwave in there. Probably heating a wholesome and hearty soup.

I find it handy to keep some small coloured stickers (like little dots) to add to notes made in your Filofax, or on lists. Yes a colour per country would be very organised.

theDudesmummy · 20/11/2013 10:44

I have had the same black leather filofax for 20 years. Could not live without it.

AnneWentworth · 20/11/2013 10:45

I have one. I love it. I have had it for about 5 years although in haven't used it for a while. I might bring it back out for this year.

Perspective21 · 20/11/2013 13:52

Ah, it's so lovely to find some folks who think like me Smile I even order special Dodo stickers which match the calendar perfectly and have such lovely images such as end of term, party or medical appt. on them...it's such a satisfactory system...

I do have a bumper selection of highlighter colours too. This time of year, the old calendar is so full you can hardly read the dates!!

Keepthechangeyoufilthyanimal · 20/11/2013 14:40

I'm not a fan of filofaxes personally, but I am obsessed with diaries, notebooks, post its, stationary in general actually!

one of my favourite times of year is choosing my diary for the following year
Can't be doing with any of these online calendars etc. In fact I've had an iPhone for 4 years and never once used the calendar/diary functions.

I think having a filofax is non-twattish if you need to keep yourself organised etc but I think now there are plenty of diaries that do the same job without having to lug around a huge filofax!

The diary I've had for the last 2 years is this one and get on really well with it, it's leather, lovely thick paper and the days go down in columns which is my preference.

But possible contenders for 2014 are
Moleskine
Moleskine again
I like that they both have space for extra notes

I do like certain elements of this 'organised mum' one which always gets great reviews and has lots of organisation pages in it but its not 100% perfect for me.

PoshPaula · 20/11/2013 14:43

Perpsective - do you have one of those circular gadgets for hanging several items of lingerie and pairs of socks on, to dry?
