i do laugh at paper diaries

Older blousy social worker type women always have them

Dilidali · 17/11/2013 08:41

It's ok, spencer, there's more to life than laughing at other people' choices. Bet you knew that, right?

WhereIsMyHat · 17/11/2013 08:44

Get a roterfaden instead, much cooler.

online calendars are the way to go

Allthingsprettyreturns · 17/11/2013 09:41

Try Tk Maxx as I saw a Temperley for filofax for less than half the rrp.

mirpuppet · 17/11/2013 09:55

I also saw Filofax at TK Maxx in London.

dexter73 · 17/11/2013 10:03

I don't think they are twattish, just out of date. I stick everything on my phone.

maillotjaune · 17/11/2013 10:03

WhereIs those Roterfaden things are lovely but I can't work out the inserts. Do you just order a diary of the same size as the outside bit and it clips in?

I am now trying to talk myself out of spending the money though Smile

FacebookWanker · 17/11/2013 10:10

I love mine, but I'm probably a twat.

Iaintdunnuffink · 17/11/2013 10:31

In the 80's they had a reputation for being twatish. Back in the days when people used the size of their Filofax to show how important they were. I don't think anyone would have too much of a view these days.

I rarely see any type of physical diary these days at work. I could imagine one might be of use to jot things down if you're meeting clients off site.

Congrats on yr new job :)

Lilliput · 17/11/2013 11:28

I must be a blousey older community midwife type in your eyes Spencer.
I need to keep a paper documentation if my work load so can't use my phone. It would look wrong and actually unprofessional in my job plus my phone is for personal only.

This is the Tmperley filofax I saw in TK Maxx. I have looked today and it is £19.99 just like other filofaxes where thw original rrp is £45.00

Allthingsprettyreturns · 17/11/2013 11:40

Ps they had the 2014 as well as the 2013 diary inserts inside (Temperley)

naturelover · 17/11/2013 11:46

I've used mine for 20-odd years (I'm on my second). SO useful having address book and other sections and being able to add pages. I can't imagine using my phone for all that stuff but then again I'm a bit of a technophobe.

I don't think they're twattish at all.

jalopy · 17/11/2013 12:33

I've had one for years but I keep it at home. It contains all my phone numbers and addresses so if I lose my smart phone, I have got them all written down.

FracturedViewOfLife · 17/11/2013 13:12

I use it for bills, birthdays, phone numbers and general notes. My iPhone /pad/mac calendar is what I use for day to day things but I do like having a back up of important things. I'm not an older blousy social work woman I am 26 Grin

WhereIsMyHat · 17/11/2013 20:26

maillotjaune, yes you can either buy the diary etc from there or buy the same sized ones from any shop and stick them in. I think four clips is better than three, I went for the latter and wish I had one more. The light brown leather is gorgeous.

I need a paper diary as well as iphone, I write shopping lists, meal plans, keep papers/ receipts/ vouchers in mine. The A5 size also hold an ipad mini perfectly in the back pocket.

AntoinetteCosway · 17/11/2013 21:05

What exactly are the clips? Like rings?

SpencerPercival · 17/11/2013 21:06

community midwife
YES perfect filofax user
bet you have a Nokia phone too!

GetYourSocksOff · 17/11/2013 21:09

I looooove my filofax. I have a purple leather cover, it smells bloody brilliant :-)

It makes me want to stroke look at my diary which, given that my main problem with diaries has been forgetting to actually check them, is a massive advantage.

It's so flexible that I use it for a huge number of things now and have developed my own system. My iPad and phone come to work with me each day but despite this, it's become invaluable.

GetYourSocksOff · 17/11/2013 21:12

hehe read that back, sound just like the sort of blousy community midwife described.

I'm not, honest. I rock it, just so you know.

WhereIsMyHat · 18/11/2013 12:19

The clips just lift up and down so for your diary you can now the clips to the week your on to save filling through. This also means you can use any diary/ not pad rather that only ones with holes punched in. I lke the roterfaden diary layout though.

Is having a Filofax twattish?
PoshPaula · 18/11/2013 12:28

Yes, I'm very much the blousy, older, social work type, definately a twat, I like loads of really uncool things. Sometimes I shop in Lakeland. I also take a packed lunch to work. I don't know how I live with myself, to be honest.

AntoinetteCosway · 18/11/2013 17:49

Ooh...I love my filofax but that is very nice indeed Where.

I am such a geek for anything like this.

Lilliput · 18/11/2013 18:47

I ALWAYS take a packed lunch. The ultimate lunch receptacle is another quest of mine.
