Glad you found a dress Joycey! What colour?? What's it like??

Just curious but what percentage of your household income do you all spend (or think you should spend) on clothing/hair etc for yourself? Been trying to budget so am wondering what other people do Grin!!

Joycey29 · 28/01/2014 10:33

Navy blue with lacy sleeves. Not one of my colours but not black and never had so many comments!
Think it may be time to reinstate
Tuesday - Scarf and Lippy day.
Time we all (well me really) made a definite effort!

BeginnerSAHM · 28/01/2014 10:54

I love navy....! Bet it looks fab. Good for you.

Joycey - do I HAVE to wear lippy tomorrow? (Still struggling and think it looks tres weird on the school run...)

Is your dress this one?

Joycey29 · 28/01/2014 12:33

That s the one!!!!

BeginnerSAHM · 28/01/2014 12:38

Gorgeous!! Love it

MrsPeacockDidIt · 29/01/2014 09:07

I love that dress Joycey.

I have embraced the lippy thanks to the clarins recommendation. For the first time in history i have now worn lipstick everyday for a week. Yesterday I was indoors all day with a sick toddler and I still put some on!

So my boden goodies arrived.

leaf green cardi. The colour is gorgeous. Not an exact match for any of the greens in the swatch but very spring. It may be a bit short for me but I need to try it on with trousers first.

lotus green dress. Again lovely colour. Not an exact match but it fits in very nicely with the turquoise and teal section (all of which are 100 ** for me) BUT the style doesn't suit me. It's slightly empire shape and my boobs are too big so the "line" crosses them instead of sitting underneath. A bigger size won't help as it would be massive on my bottom half. That's the trouble with being a whole size bigger on top.

I also got a breton top (ivory and navy) but i'm not sure about it. It's a little bit long on me so if I can be bothered to take it up I might keep it.

There's a really good style blog I've been reading which says about top length and the like which i might put to good use more blog

Aquelven · 29/01/2014 09:38

Gorgeous dress, Joycey. Navy has become my favourite colour.

MrsP which colour Clarins lipstick did you buy? Can't remember if you said.
That's a shame about the dress, it looks so good in the picture. I know what you mean about fit though. I have the same problem, full size bigger on top. Dresses are difficult & so I live in separates though I do like dresses. On my style day I was also told I have very narrow shoulders, not helpful along with big boobs when it comes even to shirt or blouse type tops Confused
I've book marked that blog to read when I get more time!

EustaciaVye · 29/01/2014 09:42

Lovely dress. Navy is one of my favourites too :)

EustaciaVye · 29/01/2014 09:44

MrsPeacock - I have the same shape issue. Ref the breton top, if you dont take it up within 5 days send it back as it prob wont get done.

EustaciaVye · 29/01/2014 09:45

Can someone explain the lipstick thing to me?
I have recently staretd wearing eyeliner/mascara everyday which makes me look and feel better.

MrsPeacockDidIt · 29/01/2014 10:14

clarins sorbet

I'm going to pick up some of the lip butters too.

I'm a real convert I have to say. I usually get my eyebrows and eyelashes tinted as they are pure blonde and that too makes a huge difference.

The friend I'm going to do the style day with is back from holiday today so I'll be able to set a date. I'm very excited, especially as I've lost over a stone since my colours were done which has given me the extra confidence I needed to get excited about clothes again. I'm hoping the style day will help me with patterns as I'd love to incorporate them more but never seem to get it right.

Aquelven · 29/01/2014 12:12

Oh, that's the one I suggested isn't it? It's my favourite lipstick, gorgeous colour & very moisturising.

We don't talk much about style do we? The threads for the other seasons seem to more.
I'm a natural ingenue & am still trying to get my head round it, more complicated & more to think about than the colours Confused

OP posts:
Aquelven · 29/01/2014 12:15

Eustacia the lipstick thing is how we're told that us Springs need lipstick all the time. We look washed out without it according to the consultants.

BeginnerSAHM · 29/01/2014 14:53

Hello - I've made a pinterest board of 'Clothes I like'. No idea how to link to it but my pinterest ID is alice0499 if anybody wants to have a quick look!! (Aiming for a spring palette with a bit of 'natural ingenue' in there...)

Let me know if you can see any of it?

I'm still not keen on the whole lippy thing. Shock

MrsPeacockDidIt · 29/01/2014 16:03

Beginner just had a look at your Pininterest. I think we might frequent the same type of shops! I love mint velvet and jigsaw. The green zara coat is amazing.

The lippy thing surprised me too. I'm 43 and never worn lipstick, ever (well maybe on my wedding day). The nice thing about the sheer ones is that they aren't like wearing lippy at all and I can really see that it makes a difference. Go for it !

elspethmcgillicuddy · 29/01/2014 16:23

I love your Pinterest board beginner! I have followed you.

I love the green Zara coat too but I'm not too keen on the oversized look this season.

I bought the dress I linked to a few days ago in joules. Think it might be slightly the wrong colour but I will take it along to the style say next month to see what she says!

Mumelie · 29/01/2014 18:00

Hi Springs!
Oh wow, so much to catch up on - where do I start?
Beginner just looked at your pintrest board, love it, have followed you. I have a Clear Spring board on mine (along with about a million others). Love Pintrest - lots of inspiration there.
MrsPeacock so like that Boden cardi - I have a similar one from last summer and wear it a lot. The green isn't an exact match is it, but good enough. Liking that lipstick too. I never wore lipstick before my diagnosis, but its red lippie every day for me now. Fell naked without it.
Joycey that dress is fab, want it myself (if only I had an occasion). Knock em dead! Hope you are on the mend? And Aque too with your poor foot?

I broke today and had a spend in Joules sale (hangs head in shame). I lasted 29 days no spending but payday was too much for me. I only bought 1 thing to my credit this mac in the green. It will be very very useful come the Spring and really suits me now I've gone darker with my hair. Hatches on my purse now well and truely batterned til March payday (honest) [hmmm].

Cant wait for warmer weather. Have rejoined Weightwatchers today with the hope of getting back into last summers clothes at least Wink.

BeginnerSAHM · 29/01/2014 18:56

Hi Mumelie, Elspeth and mrsP!

I've followed both of you (mumelie and Elspeth) too - am worried it might give me a bit too much inspiration Wink... Love both your boards. Clearly Spring Pinterest Mumsnetters are immensely stylish Wink!

To be honest, I just spent an hour pinning stuff as I'm trying to get my 'eye in' before the end of Feb and my NY trip!! I'm quite alarmed at how much stuff I managed to like after such a short surf!!! Heh.

Joycey - really hope you're ok. Been thinking of you.

How's the foot Aquelven?

BirdyBedtime · 30/01/2014 13:45

Hi all

Joycey not sure if you've been at your 'do' yet but hope it isn't/wasn't too awkward. Thinking of you.

Glad to hear your foot is finally metal free Aque - must feel great.

You've all posted such fab links, but I'm trying not to buy anything new at the mo until the spring/summer collections come out as I have a few tops that could do with going out, but need new ones to replace them. I'm also going to throw out some jumpers at the end of winter to make sure I replace them next year. I'm also considering turfing some suits as for work I seem to be favouring dresses and my wardrobe could do with some breathing space.

I ended up returning my beautiful grey boots as although I loved them and they were perfect in every way, unfortunately they were just not a good fit (I'm not quite a 5 so if footwear is even slightly on the big side I struggle). V Sad

How is the job hunting going Beginner?

Gillybobs · 30/01/2014 15:12

I've followed a few of you but not sure who is who. Easily confused Grin

Joycey29 · 30/01/2014 20:30

30th was ok - I certainly made an impression!
Never had quite so many comments so felt pretty darn good!

Aquelven · 30/01/2014 20:38

I'm going to have big sort out of jumpers at the end of this winter too. The plan is to throw out all the wrong coloured ones instead of storing them & ending up wearing them again just cos I'm cold.
Went to the shops today, first time since I did my Christmas shopping in early December! As I've finally got the all clear to drive again, we have no public transport here. I didn't buy any clothes but treated myself to some Revlon, 3for2 in Boots. Got two new lipsticks ( becoming a bit of an obsession Confused ) but at least they've turned out to be good spring ones, a lip butter in Juicy Papaya( nice soft coral) & a Colourburst Laquer Balm in Coquette ( not orange at all, a warm bright pink)

OP posts:
BirdyBedtime · 31/01/2014 12:48

That's brilliant Joycey - good on you.

Foogle - thanks for the info on the LE cardigans - I think I'll maybe invest in one as I had a kelly green Zara one that could do with replacing. I thought the print one looked good in the catalogue but I can imagine it might be a bit much IRL.

I've been really bad for not wearing lipstick the past few months (got out of the habit when I was recuperating) so am making that my Feb resolution!

Aquelven · 31/01/2014 13:54

That's great, Joycey Smile

Fooogle · 03/02/2014 12:16

Morning springs

oops. ordered another lippy...
Chanel Incandescente... probably bad idea. Found for cheaper on ebay (thank goodness, ridiculous prices!). I am also trying to sell some of my 'mistakes' on ebay. I never really understand that people are happy to buy slightly used lipstick but I guess it is no worse than using a tester in the shop?? Perhaps folk have that alcohol liquid that can be used on it first... Confused Anyway, makes me feel I am getting a little something back for my folly!

Could really do with a day of faffing around trying outfits as I just have defaults now as I am not sure what goes together with my new bright cardis etc. Does anyone else have that trouble? Bought a turquoise wool Jaeger pencil skirt at the weekend from a charity rummage...May be a step too far!!!!

My rerate is on Sunday. What would you say were your top questions you would ask if you went again? Want to know about pattern (if they will let that slip as think it is more a style thing?), best colours for investment pieces... coats, jackets etc. Let me know what else you can add to my list if you like?!

Where are your fav jeans from? I have some next skinny ones but they are getting a bit worn (crawling on the floor with kids etc). Don't want to spend more than £50 if possible but would welcome other good ones. I'm 5'11' and wide of hip and bottom but narrow waist. Think I'm 'long in the rise' if anyone else has that?!
