Hi Springs.
New thread, hopefully, with the following link to our old one....

Early Spring

OP posts:
YouHaveBeenOutbid · 03/02/2014 13:00

Hi Springs! Can I join you? I'm a bit late to the party I know but had my colour day yesterday and am officially a Spring :) I was quite surprised - thought I'd be a summer. I'm not at all convinced about some of the colours. I look ill in yellow and orange I think. I'm fair haired and pale, not particularly golden in any way!

Did anyone else find they couldn't see the difference in themselves and other people? There was only two of us there and neither of us could really tell the right colours from the wrong ones unless they were glaringly wrong, like white was on both of us. I came home a bit bamboozled. We both looked similar (to my mind anyway) but she turned out to be an autumn.

One thing's for sure I don't have many spring colours in my wardrobe. I'm going to do the style day at some point too so am trying to hold off shopping till then.

Has anyone tried the foundation? It seemed a bit pricey so didn't buy it at the time but apparently the entire contents of my make up bag were all wrong!

BeginnerSAHM · 03/02/2014 13:00

Hi Fooogle,

Just a quickie reply but try uniqlo for jeans. Really really like them. I'm rather short (well, 5'4'' AND and half) so get them taken up for free but they come really long so bet they'd fit. I have a small waist and larger bum/thighs though and they fit me well. Think midrise skinny-straight are good (with some stretch in). Maybe type 'C'? And also think they're about £29

BeginnerSAHM · 03/02/2014 13:06

Welcome youhavebeenoutbid! I think it's quite normal not to 'get it' at first (or indeed, for quite a while). Could you really not see that clearer brighter colours (spring) made your skin/eyes look better than dusty muted (summer) ones? I can see very clearly that dusty colours look terrible on me (sadly, as I love them...) but am still not very comfortable with the 'bright spring' (aka cbeebies presenter) look (which is what I think I am). So I wear a lot of navy, charcoal and the odd bright top, scarf etc... Do you have any navy or grey in your wardrobe? Even if it's not the 'best' spring navy, it will look good mixed with a few spring coloured scarves....

YouHaveBeenOutbid · 03/02/2014 13:27

Thanks BeginnerSAHM - my wardrobe is full of navy and grey but the wrong navy and grey apparently! I think I need to break away from the boring colours I wear and start 'springing myself up' to see the difference.

I could see that the pastels were all wrong but some of the stuff she was saying was 2* I was a bit meh about. I definitely don't want to look like a cbeebies presenter though!

Aquelven · 03/02/2014 17:21

Hello YouHaveBeenOutbid, welcome to our springy thread Smile. Have you checked out our previous thread too, linked from the first post on this one?
Did they not tell you what type of spring you are, was it with House of Colour? Your colouring sounds very like mine so wondering if you are a Blue Spring too which means your colouring tends to be more neutral, creeping towards the cooler seasons, so it's not so easy to see the difference with the colours.
The yellows, tans, oranges look pretty awful on me, the blues, greens, turquoises & purples are much better. In fact I think the pale blues & pinks of the cooler seasons look better on me than oranges etc Confused
I buy a lot of navy & grey since my colour day, I'm another not convinced by the TV presenter look.
The foundation is expensive & the one they put on me looked a bit dark to be honest, I'm ghostly pale. You could try the Boots No7 tester machine gizmo they use, if you haven't already. I came up the palest shade but can still only get away with it in summer. I use Mac Studiofix NW15 it's about £16 last time I bought it( they have a really good spread of colours) or Bare Minerals in Fair ( the palest shade) that's around £22. Ask for some testers at the makeup counters, they're usually pretty good at giving foundation testers & you can get a good couple of weeks worth out of them to see if you really like them.
If you just want to choose a cheaper one from Boots or Superdrug, I like the Revlon ones.

Thanks for the jeans tip beginner. Will investigate.

Nice to have you you've been. The blue spring thing is interesting isn't it. Do you think that's what you are?

Gillybobs · 04/02/2014 07:41

Youhavebeen welcome welcome, definitely read the old thread for starter tips but wanted to say after two years I still wear tonnes of navy and grey but I now realise I need that bright top or scarf to avoid looking meh. And lippy. Always lippy/gloss in a spring colour. It may take time to accept it but it's a fact. My best advice is to buy three or four tops (to brighten up the navy and grey) in your best spring colours , a scarf if you wear them in a springy print, and a lippy or gloss you are happy to wear every day. Enjoy the ride!

Foogle I'm addicted to wallis jeggings Blush. They are nice dark indigo , fit like a glove , skinny but comfy, think they were about thirty quid.

YouHaveBeenOutbid · 04/02/2014 09:12

I started working through the old thread last night. It may take me a while!

I didn't get whether I was a Blue spring or another type. I've got double stars for coral, terracotta, geranium, leaf green, hyacinth and aquamarine if that gives it away?

I love a scarf or two so am going to start with those and a bright lippie :)

Fooogle · 04/02/2014 10:33

Thanks Gilly. don't seem to have them in dark blue but I will look closer. Grey ones in the sale but not in a 12...
The next ones I have are high waisted and to be honest that seems to work best for my waist bum ratios! though that high waisted seems less around this season...

Youhavebeen sounds less blue spring to me but I am not that clued in on the blue bit. Probably you wouldn't have the orangey ones in if you were?
Yeah, trawl the threads for lip colours of which there are many! and scarves seem relatively easy to come by. Even the old viscosey type pashmina which comes in all colours of the rainbow are good for a quick fix, I think I started with a few of those in greens and turquoise...

Joycey29 · 05/02/2014 21:08

Just bought a pair of skinny green jeans in the sales.
Loving them as great base!
Looking for a new lippy - not too out there - suggestions please from the Spring Gurus!

Aquelven · 05/02/2014 23:02

Hi Joycey I bought a couple of Revlon lippies this week that are working well ( on offer in Boots at the moment) I got the butter in Juicy Papaya, nice soft coral not too bright, & the new crayon one in Coquette which is more of a bright warm pink.

Youhavebeen doesn't sound like blue spring, I'm blue spring & terracotta, coral etc are my lowest rated one tick colours, best ** are navy, all the blues, turquoises & aquamarines along with the greys.

OP posts:
BeginnerSAHM · 06/02/2014 09:58

Youhavebeen - think you are a 'bright' spring. What's the third type of spring actually? Can you be a 'soft' spring? Sounds contradictory as springs are supposed to be good in bright and clear (and warm) colours....

Aquelven · 06/02/2014 10:12

Just done a google search & the HoC springs seem to be Warm Spring, Golden Spring, Paint Box Spring & Blue Spring.
Could do with one of the consultants that frequent the other seasons' threads coming & explaining them!

OP posts:
BeginnerSAHM · 06/02/2014 10:25

Ah, thanks Aquelven! Think that helps me... Youhavebeen - I meant 'paintbox' then. I'm not warm or golden so must be paintbox (as have a coral and geranium as double stars as well as blues and greens - and tan, bleugh, weirdly). Misdiagnosed as winter once (by house of colour...) so guess I must be paintbox as that might be similar-ish to jewel winter! Confused

MrsPeacockDidIt · 06/02/2014 11:47

Hi everyone and welcome Youhavebeen.

Thought I would share my purchases from the weekend in case it appeals to any other springs.

I'm trying hard not to buy block colour things at the moment and instead try and introduce more pattern so first up is a jumper version of this. I can't find it on their website but the jumper has the same blue but long sleeves and a crew neck line. The blue is spot on for "bright blue" and the colours in the pattern all look right too.

Secondly I saw this on someone on tv and managed to find it using google. dress. The background is dove grey and the flowers are nice and bright too. I'm wearing today but with naughty black tights and long black boots but with a purple cardigan. There is also a blue version but although the blue is right the flowers aren't very spring so i'm in 2 minds whether to order it or not.

Anybody else purchased anything good?

Fooogle · 06/02/2014 20:04

mrspeacock those are nice pieces. I struggle with pattern but always feel a bit bland as only wear blocks of colour depart from my liberty shirt ventures! Find it hard to work out the overall effect of a pattern?

Lips... Ongoing purchasing dilemma for me joycey! Have a few lip butter ones; tutti fruiti and a revlon one lovers coral... Not perfect for me. Good but not quite if you see what I mean. Waiting for chanel one but that's a red...
Any more tips for my colour rerate? What would you ask?

Fooogle · 09/02/2014 17:30

Argggghggh. Rerate. Apparently I'm a winter. Am in shock.

BeginnerSAHM · 09/02/2014 17:45

Whaaaaat??? We're you house of coloured as a spring before fooogle? I'm the only one I know of they got wrong. They had me as a winter 8 years ago - spring 6 months ago (and CMB also had me as 'clear and warm', I.e. spring)... Am losing faith!!!

BeginnerSAHM · 09/02/2014 18:48

Ah, fooogle, just scrolled down and saw it was CMB who said you were a spring.... Hmm. They got me right twice (yup, totally obsessed and never quite happy with 'my' colours!) and HoC got me wrong once. Still, the winter thread looks v lively and there are more winter colours around normally Grin! Are you convinced by your rerate?

Aquelven · 09/02/2014 21:12

Wow, that's a shocker!!
How can they get you so different? Would be more understandable if it was a mix up with spring/autumn or summer/winter but to get the cool/warm completely wrong....well, I'm gobsmacked Shock

OP posts:
Mumelie · 09/02/2014 21:40

oh no fooogle! Shock
Were you a bright spring (sorry can't remember what you are)? That's quite close to winter as the skin is more neutral and can border on one of the winter types.
I'm often mistaken for a winter - took my consultant a while to rule it out and go for spring.
Sorry to lose you from the thread! Sad

Fooogle · 09/02/2014 22:57

Feeling pretty spun out by it all really.
I went along smugly thinking i d just get some tips and went with a friend. Spent all morning chuckling about how she could wear black/grey 'easier' colours but secretly liking 'our' yellow tones and now I just feel flabbergasted!!! The lady dis spend a long time checking but I still feel suspicious. I spent so long looking for all the 'right' spring colours I just feel odd telling myself the 'wrong' are right?
My double stars were all tuquoisey/blue/scarlet then grey/navy...hmmmmmmmm.
Anyway... I'll try a day or two in more winter tones to see how I feel I guess.
I was a spring with CMB about 8 years ago...warm spring at that I think!
Suppose it might explain never finding the right lipstick aque but I feel oddly shaken by the whole thing as I've kinda got a wardrobe full of spring!
I'll lurk a while in winter but stick here too for a bit if I may? I'll miss you guys!!

BeginnerSAHM · 10/02/2014 09:05

Hi Fooogle - how annoying! And expensive.... But have a look at the CMB book. Sounds to me that, in their system, you are a 'clear' and you secondary characteristic is cool (thereby making you a winter not a spring). They don't name their types by seasons anymore. The theory is you have one dominant characteristic (which is clear or soft, warm or cool and deep or light). And you have three characteristics. So I'm clear, warm and not-sure-about-the-third (can wear dark and light colours). I don't think either the HOC or CMB system is 'right' (after all, it's not a science) but they both make sense in their own ways. The difference is, CMB would say HOC bright springs and winters can wear some of the same colours.

BeginnerSAHM · 10/02/2014 09:07

This is the CMB book.

YouHaveBeenOutbid · 10/02/2014 13:39

Fooogle, that's quite a misdiagnosis! What made you decide to get a rerate? did you just feel they'd got your wrong somehow?
