Hi Springs.
New thread, hopefully, with the following link to our old one....

Early Spring

Hello everyone! I'm so appreciative of a bit of support with this whole new colours thing. Quick question. I tried on this dress in joules the other day with a yellow cardigan. I didn't get it but keep thinking about it. Do you think it is too muted? Thanks!

Aquelven · 25/01/2014 17:52

The links did work, Elspeth, both of them.
I like that dress, not too bright which appeals to me. It would look really spring with a yellow or other brightish cardigan without being too much.

OP posts:
Gillybobs · 25/01/2014 17:59

Elspeth, I wouldn't say it was springy sorry. The grey looks like autumns lizard grey and the print looks quite muted colours too. Sorry : (

elspethmcgillicuddy · 26/01/2014 04:49

Thank you. It was paired with a yellow cardigan in the shop and looked lovely but maybe it is too earthy.

elspethmcgillicuddy · 26/01/2014 04:50

Oh bloody hell. Sorry! Blush

Gillybobs · 26/01/2014 11:12

Yes, good way of describing it, it does look earthy so is probably autumn.

It's useful to remember the spring buzz words when shopping, is bright, warm, clear, saturated etc. also a quick comparison with your swatches would probably blow that dress right out the water!! Grin

Aquelven · 26/01/2014 15:11

I agree with all that, Gilly, but just sometimes the bright, bright, bright can get a bit much. Perhaps why I find myself drifting into navy & grey a lot with just a touch of the bright.

OP posts:
Gillybobs · 26/01/2014 17:29

Totally agree, I probably wear more grey than anything, and I never wear more than one bright at a time, I feel ridiculous. I'm definitely not advocating the cbeebies look, trust me Wink
I think it's easy to get in wrong with patterned clothes, if one of the colours looks spring for instance. You need to take a step back and look at the overall effect as patterns often have a softening or muted effect on colours (I've found, anyway)

Aquelven · 26/01/2014 18:18

Yes, that's a good idea.
Patterns are more difficult than plain colours, you're right.

I think one of the most useful things that's come out of it for me is really knowing what my best neutrals are so now I buy greys & navy instead of black, which I used to think was the best, most stylish neutral. It's what they tell you in magazines & most fashion experts seem to live in it!
Switching to our navy & greys sort of helps to pull everything right.

So I've just taken advantage of 15% boden discount to order leaf green cardigan and dress

Leaf green and turquoise are 2 of my 100% ** so I'm hopeful on the colours. Not sure the dress will suit style wise but free delivery and returns it doesn't really matter.

Fooogle · 27/01/2014 13:56

Thanks Eusta re the print Grin. I fell for it anyway, it was an ebay thing so guess will resell it again if it is pants or make cushions Smile. I'm, for some reason, into these liberty blouses (partly as I think I can get away with no ironing them!)

Gilly I think you're right about patterns. I used to totally avoid as safer...Maybe I should start again!

Elspeth the dress looks nice. I have a kind of taupey colour in my CMB colours which I liked for a while and it looks a bit like it though hard to tell in pics (even though I always go by those as always online shopping!)... enough of these parentheses...!

MrsP those are nice Boden things. I am so stingy or I would snap up that cardi though think is good price. Cashmere always from charity shop finds here but not often in good spring colours or mostly men's ones!

Wearing yellow top and cashmere cardi today with vintage Christian dior scarf and brown stripe trousers...kinda springy though wanting a haircut as think its letting me down in general!

Fooogle · 27/01/2014 13:57

My grammar is pretty shoddy, sorry folks, posting in haste.

Aquelven · 27/01/2014 14:15

Mrs P that's not a bad price for cashmere & a good colour you don't often see in cashmere in the shops. I've just bought some cashmere/lamps wool mix yarn in the same colour to make one.
Fooogle I'd never thought of looking in charity shops for cashmere, how brilliant! I suppose I'd thought people would never give it away.

I really like that dress & would be tempted by the navy but do you think it's too dark? I get completely mixed up with all the so called winter/summer/autumn/spring navies. Till we started out on this colour thing I thought navy was just navy! Must admit if something's navy & I like the style I just buy it Blush

Today I'm completely none spring. Black jeans, black cardigan & big fluffy fuchsia jumper cos I'm freezing & not going anywhere. I'll chuck the jumper when the weather warms up.

Lamps wool Grin meant lambs wool

Me too aquelven. Black jeans, black l/s top. Light blue t-shirt.

alemci · 27/01/2014 14:38

I haven't posted for a while because I am desperately trying not to buy clothes as I bought a newish car coincidentally in a Spring colour:).

trying to stick to my colours each day as much as I can.

Gillybobs · 27/01/2014 18:21

Read loads about becksondergaard scarves on MN so bought this for a bargain price to try. The colour is DEVINE, fab bright turquoise with violet pattern
www.the-dressingroom.com/item/becksondergaard/e-rain-fluff-scarf-turquoise-delight/3EGV#.UuajMn_fWK0

I notice they do it in a fab spring coral pink (amazon sell it too) if anyone fancies it

Aquelven · 27/01/2014 19:22

I got a Becksondergaard scarf in that turquoise but with black stars in TKMaxx before Christmas. It was dearer than that, think it was £18, but it's a wool/silk mix. I'd never heard of the make till someone was raving about them on another MN thread & then I spotted it in TKMaxx.

Fooogle · 27/01/2014 19:26

Nice scarf gilly.
Yes aque I've found lots of cashmere over the years... Favourite was a harrods cardi but somehow I lost it Sad.
Often uniqlo or m and s but a Jaeger one a while back... I'd be chillier without them!

Trying my mac Korean candy lipstick today... Quite like it but maybe a bit red with my yellow cardi... Oh the pitfalls!

WhoNickedMyName · 27/01/2014 20:08

Lovely scarf Gilly, looks like it's sold out now as it's showing as unavailable to buy.

I got a few bits from Boden, some navy cropped trousers, a dress and a cardigan (in age 15-16 Blush) some kids navy loafers (my shoe size is 2-3) and this scarf in the daffodils/bird print.

MrsP has your stuff arrived yet? How is the green cardigan? I keep looking at it but I'm waiting to see what you think.

Aqueleven you can knit? I often wish now that I'd paid attention to my nan when she tried to teach me to knit.

WhoNickedMyName · 27/01/2014 20:13

Fooogle I've just googled Korean candy lipstick - very nice! I have Lady Danger which is similar, maybe a touch more red. Your post has also reminded me that I need to sort my make up case out and have a clear out.

Aquelven · 27/01/2014 23:47

That scarf's lovely Whonicked. I love the kaleidoscope version too!

Yes, I knit. My DH says it's not do much a hobby as an affliction, I do so much of it. Grin

That looks a good colour, Foogle I haven't looked at Mac colours for ages, still using up a few Bombshell I bought before the colour day.

I've got some M&S vouchers I was given for Christmas but can't see anything I want to buy!
