Bought a few thermal long sleeve tops from M&S - some good spring colours and v warm. Bought 4 for £60 - oops!

Fooogle · 20/01/2014 23:22

Ooh yes I forgot About primark stretch tops... Frustrating as can't do online and not likely to get there for a bit.
Mumelie that coat is nice, lovely shape.
Aque I even forget which lip colours I have! Forgot I had a lip butter though think it is coral coloured. Must look out all my v samey lippies!

elspethmcgillicuddy · 22/01/2014 13:49

Foogle- I got the lipsticks red 12, pink 611 and coral 709. I didn't try navy mascara at my colour day but it said that it was an option in the little booklet at the back so I tried it and really like it.

Unfortunately the tops from GAP were all the wrong colours except the grey one. They were very harsh (maybe neon should have been a giveaway!) I did buy a cotton knit jumper in a coral colour from Peacocks which I would never have even looked at before thinking it would look cheap and garish but have had loads of compliments. I am feeling really under the weather but I think everyone thinks I am putting it on because I look healthier than I have in ages!

Gillybobs · 22/01/2014 15:06

Hello all, just popping in to recommend the Liz Earle lippy in Melon to anyone looking for a very subtle wearable daytime colour. Great texture, not drying at all but lasts much better than the lip butters. Id describe it as just a bit stronger than the pale peach lip butter, a soft peach coral. So nice.

Ive snapped up a couple of pairs of trousers from the new Boden range, the Bistro crops are my all time favourites and they have them in a nice mid grey which I can use for work or casual. www.boden.co.uk/en-GB/Womens-Petite-range/WM329-SLT/Womens-Slate-Bistro-Crop-Trouser.html

Also tried their new cotton stretch trousers with a little turn up and again, fab fab fab. Got those in navy so happy Ive got nice spring neutrals for spring/summer wardrobe. www.boden.co.uk/en-GB/Womens-Petite-range/WM357-NAV/Womens-Navy-Chelsea-Turn-up.html

So much nice new stuff in the shops and Im still hiding under layers and layers of knitwear. Had enough of the cold now!

Eslpeth, panic ye not, it takes a while to get your head round all this. Personally Id get a couple of nice spring lightweight knits that will do both now and into proper springtime. Boden are fab for colour and I think New Look have lots of knitwear in too. If you do scarves, another brilliant way to get the colours near your face. And always always the lippy Grin Don't worry too much about trousers/bottom halves for now.

Joycey, hoping you are doing ok x

WhoNickedMyName · 22/01/2014 19:25

Hi all, I'm loving popping onto this thread to see what you've all been buying.

Gilly the Boden grey crops are really nice, I've never had anything from there though. I didn't realise they did a petite range! What is the sizing like, do they tend to be true to size?

I'm a fan of the Revlon Lip Butters, Tutti Frutti is a good match for the HOC 709 lipstick, which I bought on my colour day. I've stopped using the HOC lipstick though, I don't like the texture, it's very dry. Think I'll buy the Revlon Candy Apple at the weekend, I've noticed someone on here has mentioned it.

So I finally got a refund from Karen Millen on all of the stuff I sent back, their customer service is appalling. All of their 'new in' clothes are still mostly black or really dark. I'm going to go into town at the weekend and have a proper look, it's hard to tell online but I'm really tempted by this either in the cream, blue (which looks more like a soft grey) or the orange. Failing that I'll keep hold of the vouchers until the summer.

I can't wait for spring! I'm fed up with the cold and dark now and I could really do with a good reason to make me shave my legs Grin.

Fooogle · 22/01/2014 19:43

Wow who that orange jacket looks very cool. I bought a peach coloured one in autumn which I like (though find it hard to work our what to wear it with).
Gilly bistro crops look so lovely and chic. Sadly my calves are evidently chunky as they don't fit well! I've yet to find appropriate cigarette type pants so assume it's me not the myriad shops.

Feeling but wrong today. Maybe more autumn than spring. Teal wrap shirt sleeve cardi, brown top, wide leg wool taupe brown trousers... Tried lippy but looked daft again. I have such an embarrassing number of lipsticks Blush

Grin at shaving leg incentive whats as I did have to do just that at the weekend to swim with kids! won't again til next time

Fooogle · 22/01/2014 19:46

Sorry about the tops elspeth. Good to try though if postage is free?
I'm waiting on some basic vests from h and m and hoping those will be right...

Gillybobs · 22/01/2014 20:16

Who, I'd say Boden is definitely true to size, excellent quality too. Foogle they are narrow on the calves that's true, I'm an apple so have good legs, flabby waist : (

Aquelven · 22/01/2014 20:19

I have a cream leather jacket from a few years ago. It isn't exactly a biker but shortish & a similar fit. I've found it one of the most useful things I own for the spring/summer months, wear it loads.

Does anyone else find it's very easy to drift into autumn colours during these dark cold months? There seem to be more of them around & it's hard to keep up the brightness, well I find.
Looking on the Kettlewell website I find I'm more drawn to the Summer and Autumn looks rather than the Spring Confused

elspethmcgillicuddy · 22/01/2014 21:22

Who- I did wonder if the lipsticks were a bit drying. I'm such a make up beginner I didn't realise that wasn't normal! The lip butter is a good tip and good to know the colour to look for because I wouldn't know where to start with that.

That jacket looks fab! Roll on the days when my budget is a bit healthier!

MrsPeacockDidIt · 23/01/2014 11:08

The lipstick colours have been far harder to embrace than the clothes colours I have to admit but I'll stick with the glosses/butters and see how I get on. Thanks for all the recommendations.

Can I get an opinion on this top. I can't quite decide if it's the right colours for a blue spring or not. It doesn't match anything in my wallet but I know that doesn't necessarily mean it's wrong. I'm trying to get more pattern into my wardrobe but I rarely see anything I like. I don't know if the style will suit my body shape yet so it may be a moot point anyway.

Thanks.

MrsPeacockDidIt · 23/01/2014 11:15

actually they do it in this colourway too here

Cream is a 75 double tick
Poppy 100 **
Green 25 (can't remember the name of it) is 100 **

BeginnerSAHM · 23/01/2014 12:04

Hello MrsPeacock - really like the top but think it looks a bit winter-ish. (Burgandy background) What does everybody else thing??

BeginnerSAHM · 23/01/2014 12:04

Think... Gah, fat thumbs.Wink

EustaciaVye · 23/01/2014 12:56

Hi everyone

I wouldnt wear that top Mrspeacock - the colours wouldnt suit me.

I have lost my mojo for shopping Shock cant find anything i fancy

Fooogle · 23/01/2014 13:06

mrspea I think it's prob too burgundy purple... Shame as it's pretty.
I think patterns are hard. I try some liberty shirts and read somewhere that the overall blur of the pattern should kind of mix to one of your tones? Hard to achieve!!!

WhoNickedMyName · 23/01/2014 13:06

I also think the top looks like a winter colour. It's a very black-pink rather than a pinky-pink. I have a coat which is a similar colour, I wore it to my HOC day and my consultant told me at the end that it was wrong for me.

MrsPeacockDidIt · 23/01/2014 13:30

you are all right of course. I wanted it to work but I knew in my heart it wasn't right.

I'm going to look at liberty and zara and see if anything catches my eye.

Just had a quick trip to Banana Republic and they have some lovely things in Emerald Green and Flamingo pink and bright blue.

blue trousers but not in petite size - boo

emerald green T

MrsPeacockDidIt · 23/01/2014 13:30

proper link

BeginnerSAHM · 23/01/2014 14:21

Totally agree about banana republic. Lovely spring colours in there at the mo!

Have my eye on green 'blouse'...

There a loads of spring corals, pinks, yellows and greens in t-shirts/vests and trousers at the moment.

Aquelven · 23/01/2014 14:46

The Banana Republic things are great & spot on for colours. I agree that the rose jumper is too burgundy. I always look like death not even lukewarm in that colour & I'm blue spring too.

Yippee!! I've had the pins out of my foot this morning & all the dressings removed Grin So now it's just up to me to work on the scars, exercise to get movement back, cream & massage to help with healing & flexibility then see the surgeon in six weeks for final x-rays & get signed off Grin
Then I can think about real shoes again!

OP posts:
BeginnerSAHM · 23/01/2014 15:03

Hooray! Great news Aquelven!! V exciting. Hope it's not too sore...

This wrap dress is a great spring navy. Banana Republic again. Not sure what the fabric is like but might be useful for somebody?

MrsPeacockDidIt · 23/01/2014 15:13

Good new Aquelven. You should be ready to shop for shoes again when all the pretty sandals are in the shops!

Beginner, that blouse is lovely. Their green is such a lovely vibrant colour. I was with a friend (who is planning to get "done" soon) and I picked up a green cardigan and she said "is that one of your good colours as it looks amazing on your face" (that green is one of my 100**). It's so nice to see that other people can notice the difference too.

I may put off making any more purchases till after my style day as it's not too far off (hopefully) and it means I can make some sensible choices.

Any other shops got their spring stuff in yet?

EustaciaVye · 23/01/2014 16:08

Great news aquelven.

I havent shopped in BR before. will take a look.
