Hi Springs.
New thread, hopefully, with the following link to our old one....

Early Spring

Marking place - not ready to join in yet but decided I will begin lurking to try and cheer myself up x

BeginnerSAHM · 15/01/2014 22:29

Hello Joycey! Lovely to hear from you. Been hoping you're ok.

Aquelven · 16/01/2014 00:02

Hi Joycey, so sorry you're in need of cheering up. Hope we can do our bit.
I'm just SO frustrated! Climbing the walls, longing to get out of the house!

Oh, beginner! I'm green with envy! New York Grin never been, you must tell us all about it. My DH used to work in the States a lot so has been there often while I was always stuck at home minding the livestock, mutts & DCs.
Good luck with the interviews, hope it results in a dream job.

Hi Aquelven!

Oh dear.... You sound rather fed up! Unsurprisingly. Thanks for wishing me luck. Off to another interview this afternoon (which I clearly do not have the right experience for so won't be surprised if it is rather short).

I forgot what a pain it was drying hair, putting on proper make-up etc but it's good for me... Am rather a slummy mummy at the mo Wink. Normally manage BB cream and mascara but that's it. Will stretch to some blusher, powder and a touch of eyeliner today. And lippy i suppose. (Still struggling with the 'Springs must wear lipstick at all times' thing Wink.)

BeginnerSAHM · 16/01/2014 18:23

Had a quick look in the shops while in town and Banana Republic has LOADS of great Springy colours in their new stock - greens and corals in abundance.

Hobbs has Springy green work dresses too, if anybody wants to go for the bright Spring look at work Grin.

Joycey29 · 18/01/2014 20:51

Checked out Banana Republic and second that they have some great stuff!

elspethmcgillicuddy · 19/01/2014 15:35

hello, I am a newly diagnosed paintbox spring. I had a browse on the thread last night and enjoyed looking at the links. I came on today for a bit of reassurance. Last night I felt great and energised and excited. I've just gone through my wardrobe and was pleased that most of my favourites in my work wardrobe were spring colours.

I then went through my casual wardrobe and found that a) I have virtually no clothes for going out for coffee etc and b) the ones I do have are the wrong colours. I then went back to look at the sorting I had done of my work stuff and suddenly had a real crisis of confidence. I have no idea which colours go with the ones in my swatch. I tried putting it all out and seeing if it looked like it would fit but I just didn't have a clue.

Feeling really flat now... Does anyone have any reassurance?

Aquelven · 19/01/2014 15:48

Hello Elspeth, welcome to the Spring thread Smile
Don't worry, I think we all felt like that at first in one way or another. We're here to help us get our heads round it!
My downfall was is black, still got loads of it I can't afford to ditch.
Think the best thing is to start small, think tops, scarves etc, to add to what you own inexpensively at first. At least the sales are still on!

You seem to have a head start, having some of your work clothes already in the right colours.
As well as this thread there's an older one to explore, link to it on the first post that I started this thread with on page one, though the clothes linked will be out of date.
Paintbox, that's a bright one isn't it? I'm a blue spring. What are your ** colours?

OP posts:
elspethmcgillicuddy · 19/01/2014 18:09

Thank you! I think I need to remember that it is about what to buy rather than what to keep IYSWIM. I have a huge pile to go on eBay now of stuff I haven't worn for ages.

My ** colours are beige, bright navy, cinnamon, coral, geranium, geranium pink, apple green and turquoise. I feel drawn to brighter colours and don't think I have ever worn beige but willing to try new things!

Style day is in March so will see how that further decimates my wardrobe!

Aquelven · 19/01/2014 19:06

Oh, you're doing the style day too! I found that really helpful. It more or less confirmed the type of styles I already liked but where it really helped was in sorting out proportions & shape of garments to be most flattering, not all things I was getting right.

Your ** colours are nothing like mine.
I'm doing the same, taking it as the type & colours to buy when i need new rather than throwing everything out. I admire you selling on eBay, not something I've been able to pluck up courage to do.

BirdyBedtime · 19/01/2014 20:54

Welcome elspeth - you'll get lots of good tips on this thread and links to what people are buying which shoukd be a great help (although not from me as I still struggle yo do links on the tablet!).

foogle -I'd love to hear what the Lands End cardis are like as I'm tempted by some of their new colours.

Hi Joycey -hope things are going ok and you feel up to joining us all again soon.

Well, my search for grey boots is finally over!!! Hurrah. I was in Lewis's at lunchtime last week and just thought I'd wonder through the shoe dept, and there they were - knee high, low heel grey zip Mint Velvet boots down from £190 to £70. I was beginning to despair and it means I can finally throw away my last item of black footwear'

MrsPeacockDidIt · 19/01/2014 20:55

Hi Elspeth

I'm a new recruit to this too. I started out small by remov

MrsPeacockDidIt · 19/01/2014 20:58

Ing all the black tops from my current wardrobe. Then I made sure I had some trousers in my neutrals (grey and navy), then picked up a few tops in my brighter ** colours. I'm slowly getting a coordinated wardrobe but its slow going.

I'm doing the style day in February and can't wait as that will help me to choose some more capsular items.

MrsPeacockDidIt · 19/01/2014 21:00

I need some advice from my fellow blue springs. I need to find a good colour lip gloss. My Clinique chubby has just ran out. I don't want a lipstick as its too much for me but I do want a bit of colour.

Any recommendations?

elspethmcgillicuddy · 19/01/2014 21:06

Thank you everyone! I managed to cheer myself up further by replacing a favourite casual top from gap with a selection in grey, mint green and a sort of peach colour. I love the shape of the top I had before and these will be great. plus they were the princely sum of £5.86 each in the sale! My budget is pretty limited so feeling really good about these- they are colours I have never worn before so looking forward to trying them out.

I haven't the first clue how to do links I'm afraid. And I'm on the iPad so is notoriously tricky... I will research it!

elspethmcgillicuddy · 19/01/2014 21:07

Peacock- all my black cardis are on the charity shop pile! actually more the clothing bank, don't think they are in good enough condition for the charity shop

Aquelven · 19/01/2014 22:25

MrsPeacock some lipgloss suggestions, depending on your budget. I've bought all of them Blush

Clarins .some good spring colours. Sorbet & Pink Coral are particularly lovely but you might like others.

Boots I made the mistake of buying Daydreamer first. Tickle is much better although it looks scary in the shop, goes on lovely.

Bourjois in On the Beach, bright but I like it.

Seventeen not bought one of these

Fooogle · 20/01/2014 11:05

Aque those colours look nice. I'm still struggling with wearing anything all day. I look in the mirror and feel silly half way through the morning...Is there a spring nude??? Or is that mutually exclusive!!

So, Landsend cardis Birdy... they are nice quality cotton. I'm unsure if I really have sensible colours. Emerald Isle, Saltwash Pink, Bright Teal are the best I think. Tried an animal print but its too contrasty. Soft Nectarine seems a bit of a daft colour but it looks good against my skin... Tried a blue but again, not sure its right. So, will prob keep the first three as they are such a bargain (£10.50 I think with an extra sale discount). Got the 10-12 size and they fit neatly though kind of wish I had tried the tall ones as they just hit my hip so great with dresses but not so great with my usual trousers (I am 5'11" though!).
Do you folk buy cardis in 'neutrals'? Seems like a good way to go but I don't know what my best neutral is really yet! Colour rerate on 9th Feb. Feel like not a lot of my stuff really goes well together though in theory it should. Its a style issue as well as colour!

Anyway, I'm mostly wearing various spring coloured v neck cashmere jumpers and slim or skinny jeans with navy converse despite wanting to try to be more adventurous!

Elspeth what tops did you get? I tried to rummage on the GAP site but got a bit lost! Or were they not from GAP.

elspethmcgillicuddy · 20/01/2014 13:01

Foogle- I got the essential long sleeved t shirts in neon sugar cane, coral and grey. I also got a cosy v necked sweater in creamy mint. All at GAP. If you find them, do you think these are the right sort of colours??

Another question... I am updating my make up bag. I barely ever wear any make up and have been using the same little lipstick from a set I got when I was 16 (14 yrs ago...). I was so impressed with the lipsticks at the day that I bought each of the HoC ones! I am embarassed to say that I hadn't known to wear different lipsticks according to what colours I was wearing Blush

So I am switching from black mascara to brown mascara. Went into boots today but could only find brown/black and not just brown. Is that ok or should I search for brown proper?

BeginnerSAHM · 20/01/2014 13:07

Hi Elspeth!

I have some 'neon' t-shirts from gap in the summer. They're a really nice bright peachy colour. Would never have thought of wearing it before being 'diagnosed'. I expect your ones are a similar colour though it's hard to tell online.

Re brown/black mascara - yes, definitely ok! Unless you have really soft colouring (spring 'flowing into' summer I suppose), then I think brown/black looks better.

elspethmcgillicuddy · 20/01/2014 13:22

Thanks beginner! I look forward to them arriving to find out!

I also bought a navy mascara which I just tried and is great! I have quite brown colouring (dark eyes and hair) so never even thought about trying a navy mascara but I'm really pleased with it!

This is a whole new exciting world! A bit of a roller coaster in the last couple of days though.

MrsPeacockDidIt · 20/01/2014 13:53

Thanks for the recommendations Aquelven. I went for the Clarins one in the end (boots points !) as the others looked a bit scary for someone who doesn't wear much make up.

Beginner, my consulant was shocked that I go so dark with my eyelash colour. I get them dyed blue/black which is the darkest colour. My eyebrows get done a mid brown though. Personally I don't think the eyelash colour makes much difference between black or brown but for me the blue/black colour lasts longer. In between I use a black mascara. I have very pale hair, hence why I dye them as my eyelashes and eyebrows are pure blond. My normal hair colour is strawberry blond althoug at the moment it's more blond than strawberry !

Fooogle · 20/01/2014 14:55

Elspeth, Yeah I still wear black mascara but did try brown black for a
while...Must try navy...was that at your colour day?
That lipstick is a survivor!!! What colours did you get from HOC?
t-shirts look nice. Must resist. Having terribly click happy purchasing at the mo'! Only one I wonder if it would not go with my swatch might be the creamy mint but hard to tell so def' worth testing it out.

Mumelie · 20/01/2014 16:22

Hi Springs (and welcome Elspeth)
I'm sorry not been on for ages - trying to avoid all those lovely links to things I really really want to buy! The shopping ban is going well, 20 days in (lets see if payday breaks me).
I've got my eye on these at the moment;
Duo boots in a size too small (crazy!).
Phase Eight coat.
Mrs Peacock you might want to also try the Revlon lip butters - great sheer colours that are very moisturising and not too in your face. I have 4 of them and wear them all the time - Candy apple is my favourite for everyday.

Aquelven · 20/01/2014 19:03

Those boots are gorgeous, Mumelie.

Oh, yes! I'd forgotten about Revlon Lip Butter. Then peach one is what I'd call a spring neutral Fooogle not very bright, just enough colour.

I've used brown/black in Max Factor 2000 Calorie mascara which is good but I do tend to use black much more. I'm similar to MrsPeacock with very pale hair & brows but my lashes for dome strange reason have a bit more colour so I can take black mascara. I just need one to make them look longer & thicker as they're right short & stubby Sad

I bought several long sleeved, stretchy t shirts from Primark just before Christmas, been pleasantly surprised with them, not bad quality at all & they had a huge range of colours including lots of spring ones.
