Trip trap I know what you mean about some if the colours seeming frumpy. I've for a jumper that's a warm lime green and I wouldn't have gone near it before I had my colours done but it looks fantastic on me! Makes me look soft and healthy. Black, pink purple etc are fashionable but if they make you look like death then there's no point in wearing them. I find it an exciting challenge to get the colours that I KNOW work for me, no more expensive shopping mistakes and I now get lots of compliments on what I wear. Have the courage of your convictions and inspire others! :)

RockMummy · 09/11/2013 08:12

A good pep message Scarletohello. I've been feeling a bit down about my colours as so much stuff in the shops is the wrong colour for me. I'm OK with day wear but my problem is going-out wear. All my adult life been a disciple of the black leather jacket so this is quite a culture shock for me. All suggestions gratefully received.

charitygirl · 09/11/2013 10:02

rock - MuuBaa do lovely leather jackets in a huge variety of colours inc. lots of dark autumn shades - petrol, Aubergine, tons of browns.

charitygirl · 09/11/2013 10:02

Should have added - expensive but often reduced on the outnet and Asos.

GeorginaWorsley · 09/11/2013 11:47

I agree it is often the shops perceived as for 'older' clientele that sometimes have the best autumn colours in,eg East, mistral,or the likes of Fat Face and White Stuff.
I still wear black occasionally, especially at night, but soften with scarves in more autumny colours or jewellery.

charitygirl · 09/11/2013 11:51

That's funny Georgina - I see FF, WS, and Mistral as being almost exclusively summer colours (and actually, I think that's the least 'fashionable' palette of all!), barring a bit of soft khaki, and brown. East is pretty good though, though the style is not for me usually.

TripTrapTripTrapOverTheBridge · 09/11/2013 12:50

I don't see why not Catslave.

Can I have your opinion on coats ladies?I need a waterproof hooded coat so have decided to go for waxed as they aren't puffy ski or quilt things!

I can't decide though.Being 31 and not wanting to look frumpy but liking a more 'classic with a twist' style,it's awkward.

Which of these would you say is less frumpy?Ideally will be wearing skinny jeans/cords with knee highs, also sometimes tunics or dresses. One belted, one has internal waist draw cords.

Barbour Kelsall,in either olive or brown.www.houseoffraser.co.uk/Barbour+Kelsall+Waxed+Jacket/182527576,default,pd.html

Or Jack Murphy Carey in whatever colour would look best! hollandscountryclothing.co.uk/Jack%20Murphy%20Clothing/Jack%20Murphy%20Womens%20Clothing/Wax%20Coats/Womens%20Wax%20Jacket%20Carey.htm

Snowbility · 09/11/2013 12:54

Cats our colouring sounds very similar barring the freckles - I love freckles so lucky you.

I think making autumn colours look a bit edgy is challenging. But leathers come in all colours so they an an easy box to tick. I thought White stuff and fat face have lots of autumn colour but they are so not me. I have bought lots of knitwear this season, but I struggle to find anything that isn't a classic cut and given classic style is something I am naturally drawn to, most of the interesting shapes are in black, grey and navy.

Hopefully · 09/11/2013 14:47

I have to say after living with my colours for a few years I've realised that they are only ever viewed as frumpy or unfashionable on the hanger, not on the person, iykwim. Military crops up time and time again as a trend, and is almost exclusively autumn colours, and tan/brown accessories are sen as more sophisticated than black by, eg, lots of Italians and French. In a way, I think doing fashion in less obvious (ie not winter) colours actually makes it edgier and more interesting.

I am often described by consultants as being a more Dramatic Dramatic than some of the winters as I do it in a less obvious way. Means it's more of a challenge at the point of shopping, but much more potential for creating a less drone-like look (not that all winters look drone like! but it's easier to, iykwim). Hope that makes sense, without dissing other seasons! Each season has its pros and cons, but I think there's a lot to be said for being a less obviously fashion one.

triptrap can you turn first link into a link? Can't click on phone. I think the second one is a summer colour, tbh, more of a cherry red/pink.

catslave I like that dress! definitely more one for soft autumns tan the brighter ones! as the grey pulls it more towards summer, iykwim.

catslave · 09/11/2013 16:07

Arse, I am a deep autumn! Two star colours are:

Yuck - Chestnut, Rust, Coral (no way that suits me), Bronze (poo), Coffee (lighter poo)

OK - Geranium, maybe Lizard Grey (but possibly only as it contains the word grey; makes me look really washed out actually), Orange, Kingfisher, Forest Green

I like Brick, but it is a one star, am undecided about Saffron.

I always knew I was an autumn, but now it has been confirmed I feel a bit depressed! What to do without navy or mid-light grey?

charitygirl · 09/11/2013 17:29

Bronze is SO not poo, catslave - check out the bronzes at Baukjen. It's one of my ** as well - I remember looking at a bronze Kettlewell wrap on the hanger at my consultants and thinking 'look at the drabness of that'. I put it on and honestly, I looked great, and the colour looked so expensive and rich - like gold, but better. I would love a bronze black tie dress.

And coral - that's been a massive colour (fashion wise) for the last few years. I bet it does suit you!

charitygirl · 09/11/2013 17:31

And I so agree with what hopefully says of course - even in my casualest clothes I don't look boring these days, now that I can't default to black.

GeorginaWorsley · 09/11/2013 17:46

I love the coffee colours, but struggle to find much ATM.
Am wearing a chocolate long sleeve top from Primark today,I love the colour and it looks great, wish I could find more in this colour.

lavenderpekins · 09/11/2013 19:20

Hello can i join? I had my colour analysis today and i'm a mid autumn.. Green leaf autumn to be specific. Never thought i would suit rust and its one of my best colours! I know what you mean catslave i'm feeling a bit meh but 'get' how i look better.. Interestingly the autumn model in the ketterwell catalogue has golden blonde hair so i think i might get a few golden highlights.. That feels quite nice as have been growing my highlights out for a year but have been thinking i need a 'lift' BUT where on earth am i going to buy these new clothes in the right colour AND the right shape ?? (i have rubbish body shape!)

charitygirl · 09/11/2013 19:38

Welcome Lavender! I have done almost a total overhaul of my wardrobe since colours analysis in April. Shops I have bought in inc.

H&M
Topshop
ASOS
New Look
River Island
Hobbs
Kaliko
Uniqlo (brilliant for colours)
M&S
Office
Zara
Charity shops!

So you see, plenty of autumn choice on the High street. I'm sure you don't have a rubbish body shape but if you're feeling like that maybe consider the HoC style day at some point as that will make you see all the best bits of your shape and get you knowledgable and excited about dressing to flatter yourself.

FizzyFeet · 09/11/2013 19:54

I'm tempted to get the kettlewell bronze cowl neck when the weather gets warmer - it's one of my best colours too! I saw it on someone in the summer and it looked amazing.

Esprit have quite a few nice basics in autumn colours - I got a great rust coloured loose jumper a couple of weeks ago - a bit like this teal one:

gillyweed · 09/11/2013 20:25

Hi all, can I join you please, I've been lurking for a while!?

I've spent the last week reading through both threads (wow!) and then yesterday I tried to self diagnose... I know its difficult but I think (thought) I'm pretty good with colour! It was very lengthy and literally every piece of fabric in my house was used (clothes, towels, curtains etc.). Lots of greens, reds, orange, brown, teal and royal purple suit - but also black looks alright and surprisingly warm bright pink (which is not a colour I ever wear!) and mustard I'm not sure about, but that might just be my opinion of the colour Wink. White is out and I've also realised pale colours don't make me look pale interesting, they make me look dead.

I think I'm a deep autumn leaning towards warm. I have medium brown hair (dyed slightly darker) which has always had red undertones, very pale but warm skin with freckles, and green eyes with a hazel centre.

Have I diagnosed correctly or do I need to start dropping heavy hints for a colour day for a Christmas present!?

YouCanCallMeBetty · 09/11/2013 20:34

Hi, haven't been diagnosed but assume I'm autumn (red hair, green eyes, skin that tans a bit). Anyway thought this dress would be fab for autumns (not me sadly as I'm scared of orange as a redhead). Orange Anglomania

evelynj · 09/11/2013 21:27

This is cheap & cheerful. I feel I want some pattern in my life, (but more than that I want some old gold & rosewood tops!)

www.peacocks.co.uk/lds-drs-l-slv-printed-gypsy-dark-blue.html

Christmas outfits esp casual needed!

jennimoo · 09/11/2013 21:35

I like that dress Evelyn, have you tried it on? I'm wondering how long it is.

catslave · 10/11/2013 00:51

Betty don't fear the orange! I put my 3 y/o red headed daughter ( grey eyes, tans quite impressively despite paleness) in orange a lot.

I think I am more inclined to dress her as an autumn than I am myself... It obviously suits her. No idea why I am so pathetically reluctant. I love that dress., btw

Hopasholic · 10/11/2013 12:43

Wow it's been busy on here! Congrats hopefully will you be in the delivery room shouting 'Never mind if it's a boy or a girl! Is it an Autumn or a winter?! Grin congrats to the other lady on the thread too who's expecting, sorry but I can't scroll back to your NN Blush

I know they're not an autumn colour as such, but figured these shoes would go well with lots of colours from the autumn palette for the party season! Better than black anyway! < that's how I justified another pair of shoes anyway!

Welcome to the new guys Smile

Went into All saints yesterday, as usual mostly a sea of black & grey so I resisted.
I bought a uniqlo merino jumper which I hope is an autumn colour but now I'm not sure. I'll link below. Any of you guys on an iPad? How do you do more than one link at a time without losing your post?

Hopasholic · 10/11/2013 12:53

This is the uniqlo jumper in green
Re the navy blue debate, I do tend to wear it but on my bottom half as it seems to work well with other autumn colours. I won't be giving up my jeans either!. I also got some really nice navy skinny cords from M&S of all places. Only £22.50. They're soft and stretchy and so far have held their shape well, so I'm wearing them today with a uniqlo heat tech top and the green jumper ^

My Barbour belton kept me nice and warm pitch side today although toes were cold even in UGGly boots Smile
