Yeah, I may be overthinking it somewhat - really just need to get out and try some bloody stuff on! I've had trouble doing that as the place I live has about 3 places that sell clothes (if you don't count hiking gear - I live near the Rockies) and none of it is especially good quality or my style. I miss UK shops - we'll be there for a couple of weeks in the summer so I'll need to dash along Oxford Street like a blue-arsed fly one day.

evelynj · 01/04/2014 07:52

Ah, yes it's annoying not to have shops you're used to around. If there's a gap anywhere near you, they can be good for staples.

Or you could make a uk wishlist & order a ton of stuff to a relative or friends house to arrive just before you do & then return whatever you don't want?

LeapingOverTheWall · 01/04/2014 15:20

diagnosed this morning as an Autumn so I'm popping in to say hi Smile. I had thought I was a winter as I love strong jewel colours, so it actually makes sense that nothing ever properly suited me.

However, turns out I do have a few autumn palette things, AND they are the few things that other people seem to really like on me, so the consultant is obviously right Wink. Just need to turf out most of my wardrobe, and negotiate a spending spree with DH now, so will read back through the thread and see what you're all recommending.

I've also promised to wear lipstick and mascara every day for a fortnight, to see if me and makeup do get on with each other - I've never worn blusher in my life apart from today.

JenniMoo · 04/04/2014 14:57

Hi leaping!

I fancy trying these trousers, but do you think any of the colours are actually autumn?

Thanks travel. I wondered about the vole but worried it was too purple but think they'd go with most of the tops I've got though. I can't believe in starting to see what goes! Never would have thought it, and all thanks to travelincolour :)

I'll be lucky if I can get my wallet off my DD - it's one of her favourite toys and she goes nuts if I try to take it off her Grin.

JenniMoo · 05/04/2014 06:40

My DD loves it too, she looks through all the colours over and over! I've had toake sure bits away or she hides it among her toys...

whitecat · 06/04/2014 17:15

Hello Autumn folk I haven't been shopping so have been avoiding temptation on this thread. However I have come across this Kimono and apart from the question of, is it a gorgeous but ridiculous item, is, is it an Autumn one?

charitygirl · 06/04/2014 17:45

Hey Whitecat - I lived in my brown kimono jacket from Zara last summer, though it was a lot plainer than that. I think that one is lovely and the pink makes it quite warm - too warm to be summer, and too muted to be spring...so I say autumn!

lougle · 06/04/2014 19:35

I hit the charity shops last week and came out with some lovely items.

I got:

-A brown moleskin knee length skirt, from Rinascimento (Italy) for just 99p
-A lovely pair of Long Tall Sally trousers which have a crocodile skin texture (dark brown) for £3.45. I'll need to take them up slightly.
-A lined, fitted linen coat from Marks and Spencer in an oatmeal colour which is lovely, for £1.49
-A fitted shirt from Next in coral, which DH said 'was not a winner' on the hanger, but I said 'nope, it's Autumn and it'll work.' He was amazed by how it looked on! Also 99p.
-A fitted cord jacket from New Look, which actually looks great. That was £1.49 too.
-A long sleeved top with shirt collar and breast pocket flaps with buttons, in a dark coral, for 99p
-A fitted shirt with side ties and ruffled front in green (somewhere between 22/23 in our swatch book) from Next. £3.00

Then from a second hand shop, I got a Hobbs burgundy cord skirt and a jacket from East in a similar green to the shirt.

It's quite fun doing the charity shop trawl!

whitecat · 06/04/2014 20:08

Ah charity that was exactly what I was wanting to hear. I think it's quite corally.
lougle that is a fantastic charity shop haul. Well done. I'm envious of the prices, such bargains.

JenniMoo · 06/04/2014 20:11

Well done lougle! Where did you find shops with such reasonable prices? Inbox me if you prefer not to out your location ;)

lougle · 06/04/2014 20:13

Thanks whitecat Smile I live in a strange area - in between 3 or 4 towns/cities and the prices are so different in each of them. This one had a mix of 'everything will be priced at 99p/£1.49' and 'we're going to get as much as we can per item' - one charity shop wanted £4 for a tank top from Primark, that was probably only £5-£6 new! £7 for a second hand high-street jumper....no.

whitecat · 06/04/2014 21:28

I know, some of the charity shops price themselves out of sales. Like you said premium prices for non premium goods is not going to bring the pennies in. Foolish. Much better to price at 99p or £149 and make multiple sales.

cheeseismydownfall · 07/04/2014 12:29

This is my first post as a newly diagnosed autumn! I was so sure I was a spring it has come as a shock, but it was very very obvious during the "draping" and I am coming round to the idea. I made my first tentative purchase yesterday -

www.johnlewis.com/fat-face-large-floral-scarf/p771377?kpid=232586392&s_kenid=5e3fc1e0-8f09-8049-b3f2-00007f1031f8&s_kwcid=106x68296&tmad=c&tmcampid=73

It is more teal than comes across in the photo. What do we think? Be gentle with me...

whitecat · 07/04/2014 15:06

Welcome cheese. That is a lovely scarf, very authentic colours.

lougle · 07/04/2014 21:05

No...it's burgundy. It's probably a mistake, but it looks quite nice on and it's far away from my face so I figure I'll get away for a while.

Hopefully · 07/04/2014 22:01

Hello everyone! i'm alive! Haven't been on for a while has been busy having DC3 - a girl! (my other two are boys so DH and I both did a triple take when they held her up over the c-section screen for us to see what she was Grin). She is lovely and very cute and even sleeps occasionally (on my lap - she has not deigned to visit the inside of her cot yet).

Cheese welcome! Hope you enjoy picking up some Autumny ideas here.

Whitecat that kimono looks good for an autumn. I have one kimono (forest green silk), really want to find a patterned one that works for me (i.e. majorly huge scale floral) for this summer - have visions of it looking good with jeans/shorts and a plain off-white tshirt.

whitecat · 07/04/2014 22:19

Congratulations hopefully glad to hear of your new girly addition.
Very casual is definitely how I thought about wearing the kimono. I had better buy it.

cheeseismydownfall · 07/04/2014 23:26

Congratulations hopefully!

Thank you whitecat, glad you approve Smile

Now as I said I am very new to this whole autumnal wonderfulness, but does everything here seem almost suspiciously suitable?

ToffeeWhirl · 07/04/2014 23:49

Congratulations on your baby girl, hopefully! What lovely news Smile.

cheese - yes, lots of Autumn on that page. Lots of £££££s though.

MelanieCheeks · 08/04/2014 10:08

Treated myself to this white stuff dress yesterday - I'd call the colours charcoal and that elusive lizard grey.

Nice charity shopping, lougle!
