wrap dresses are easily dressed down with a pair of leggings and a cardi. I say buy it wear it ALOT and then cost per wear it's worth buying....

TracyK · 18/03/2014 20:30

As a non dress wearer - I wouldn't buy any if you are the same. If I buy something - I won't buy another similar until Ive worn the first item. I find I squirrel stuff away - just for 'having' them. In reality - I will never wear a dress - so I've made myself not buy any.
My leg shape is such that I need a tunic/long top - so a lot of my top bit of leg can be seen. Or conversley - my knees must be covered.
So leggings and a top long enough to cover my camel toe is best. Slim in the body with a soft neckline.

whitecat · 19/03/2014 14:12

I've just bought something in lizard grey. Yay. It is not an exciting piece of clothing but it is one of my great colours and I've just not come across anything up until now.
It's a long sleeved round neck pima cotton tshirt from H&M. Surprisingly it was in with the officey stuff.

JenniMoo · 19/03/2014 14:59

That's of my best colours whitecat, I'll look put for it.

I've had this dress arrive today, as a potential to wear to a wedding and bf.
www.laredoute.co.uk/sleeveless-draped-wrapover-dress-with-buckle-detail/prod-324414943-210014.aspx

It's pretty thin and shows off the lumps and bumps but with a spanx type slip would be ok I think. It's nice but doesn't feel like it's worth quite that much money.
Does the colour look ok? How can assessorise it to look less cheap do you think?

SuperConfused · 19/03/2014 19:36

Hi all - I was briefly on the first thread, but have been lurking on this one as I try to get my head around everything, and now I'm catching up and seeing all the chat about the style day I thought I'd pop back in.

I had my colours done last year, and it made a lot of sense, though I suppose not a great revelation as I'm a pretty stereotypical autumn (auburn hair, hazel eyes, pale skin) though learning to focus on the vibrant colours was useful. It inspired me to treat myself to the style day in the new year and tbh I've been floundering a bit since then - I'm a pure Ingenue apparently, and I've been finding it difficult to really feel inspired by it. Also not helping that almost all the clothes I bought in my colours now don't match my style.

I'm not a very girly person, in terms of what I love style-wise I am very jealous of all the gamines, which I absolutely adore but it totally doesn't suit my body shape - I'm v hourglass, quite curvy, and I can see why the Ingenue style works better. But I'm finding it hard to match my heart and my head on that one: I do like small patterns, I do like some lace and delicate detail but I don't like looking young and overly girly (and its not really appropriate for my work) and I don't really like short. I'm a big fan of maxi dresses and more boho things which are completely out now.

Sorry for the overly long post but I was wondering if anyone who has had the style day done felt like they needed a long time to get their head around it? And also what people do if their colours don't seem to come in their style - there's lots of ingenue clothes in the shops atm but they all seem to be in pastel colours.

JenniMoo · 19/03/2014 19:44

Superconfused - are you sure you are ingenue? Did the sheet on it feel totally right?
I found my 'style' was something I liked wearing and used to wear similar clothes when I was younger.

SuperConfused · 19/03/2014 20:02

None of them felt entirely right to be honest, we did spend a while trying to decide and I do think ingenue is the closest but I think I may have gone into it hoping it would turn out I was a gamine and then being disappointed. That is the style I have always loved on other people, but I have never warn it because I just don't have the frame for it and it doesn't look right on me. I can see that myself, but I think perhaps I hoped there was some secret trick to making me look well in Gamine style clothing! I'm slowly warming up to aspects of the ingenue clothing, I think I'm just struggling a bit as I haven't found much in my vibrant autumn colouring and I really am struggling a bit with figuring out how to do a more grown-up ingenue look, and how to play with the proportions to get something that's ingenue but not necessarily short. (Not that that's my only option, but its the one I am finding most difficult to come round to!)

As an aside, I love that coral dress. I think the colour looks amazing. I'd be inclined to forego a necklace and get nice chandelier earrings to go with it. And maybe an oyster coloured wrap and heels? But its a great colour, and jersey is really flattering (especially with strategically deployed spanx!)

sotiredfornow · 19/03/2014 20:05

Hi ladies, haven't dropped in for a while. Have noticed H&M have tons of autumn colours in their spring offering which is lovely to see. I wish their online delivery didn't take SO long.

Can anyone tell me which of the Revlon Lip Butters are good for autumns?

Yes H&M has an amazing selection at the mo. I went a bit mad in there last week but I've got so many fab things. I now have enough autumny things to wear something every day.

Can I just say thank you all for the encouragement, I know I was rather reluctant about this all a few weeks ago. Now I have a colour coordinated wardrobe, I can pick out outfits and know they will suit me, I can choose things in the shop and know they'll go with my other clothes. And most importantly, I feel absolutely fabulous when I go out in one of my autumn outfits. It has given me such a confidence boost as I used to feel rather scruffy. Now every time I go out I feel like I look nice and I walk taller, smile more, I'm more assertive... You wouldn't really believe it was all to do with the colour of my clothes! Smile

charitygirl · 19/03/2014 20:28

Hello all - I don't think this dress is me but great colours and unusual print, plus nice reduction! Perfect for a soft autumn perhaps?

ToffeeWhirl · 19/03/2014 20:33

That's so great to hear, RahRah. Presumably, you can now see that the colours suit you? I remember that you couldn't tell at first.

ocelot41 · 20/03/2014 05:54

Jennimoo what a lovely dress! I second Super who says an ivory wrap and heels for the wedding. If you are concerned that it looks a bit cheap on
(although the photo looks anything but) try getting a real killer clutch bag to go with it. TK Maxx are great for this and their clutches are usually heavily reduced, and then reduced again, because most of the time not having a shoulder strap is a pain.

Sorry I can't help Super I haven't had a style day. But surely the whole point is that it should help you find clothes you feel happy in? I would say contact the agent and ask to talk to her again.

ocelot41 · 20/03/2014 05:56

Oh and thanks for the tip RahRah! Glad you have found clothes that make you feel fab. Off to check out H and M site now....

JenniMoo · 20/03/2014 06:50

Ocelot and super confused, thanks for the styling tips. I'm not sure I'll manage a clutch bag though as I'll be 'clutching' an 8 month old baby boy most of the time... I have some shoes on their way though they aren't great, but my SPD and hip pain is pretty bad still so they're about the best I'll manage:
taupe wedges
I like the idea of big earrings. Any recommendations of style where to buy? I've recently had my hair cut just above my shoulders but don't know how I'll wear it. When it was long I would have just straightened it...

ocelot41 · 20/03/2014 07:10

Oh lordy, if you manage to make it to a wedding in anything other than splodge covered tracky bums with an eight month old then ma'am I salute you!

evelynj · 20/03/2014 07:50

Rahrah, that is fab. I'm the same, (though usually still quite scruffy but at least now maybe more scruffy chic? ;)

Charity, I love that dress-sadly too short & high a neck for me. I've been thinking about learning a bit of dressmaking to see if it's viable to turn the likes of that dress into a scoop neck as that simple change would make a lot more autumn clothes more accessible to me.

Sotired-the 2 lip butters I have are tutti frutti-orangey & candy apple-redder but as it's more of a hint than full on colour this is my fave one.

Off to h&m for a peek today-remember the 25% off card in glamour-worthwhile buying it if you're even only spending £10!

supadupapupascupa · 21/03/2014 21:16

i am going to see David Zyla!!!!!! Oh. My. God. Just got to confirm a booking on Monday!!!!

CMP69 · 22/03/2014 13:13

Brand new autumn. Just been done this morning.
Marking my place for a read later Grin

lougle · 22/03/2014 18:36

Welcome, CMP69 - was it a surprise to you, or did you suspect you were an Autumn?

ocelot41 · 22/03/2014 18:59

Welcome CM. Also thanks to Rahrah and Sotired for the H and M tip. Have got myself Khakhi trousers in 'relaxed fit' and kingfisher best tee. V chuffed

. Only thing to ask is that the trousers are quite thin material- that's fine for summer, but does mean that outline of pockets is quite obvious. Ok I probably sound like a real pedant here but am a bit of a pear shape and would rather not draw eyes down to hip region. Has anyone ever tried sewing pockets up and cutting pocket lining out?

ocelot41 · 22/03/2014 19:01

I also have no idea who David Zyla is - pray tell supa?

JenniMoo · 22/03/2014 22:31

Ocelot - I reckon that would work fine. Just chop all but an inch (or less) off and see across.

evelynj · 22/03/2014 23:04

Welcome cm!

Supa-I had to google him, you have certainly become obsessed I think! Hoping for you it's really good & looking forward to a full review from you afterwards! Good luck with it.

Ocelot-don't know about pockets-blazer or detail around top half to distract eye is what I'd go for, but I do advocate trying out a bit of diy dressmaking-let us know how it goes! I may have to try a bit of chopping up trousers for holiday shorts before I try my hand at anything else but a lot of the summer stuff seems to be springy colours so I'm envisaging a lot of coral at best!
