Santa that is harsh. Sounds like when my Dad was working in Connecticut and we flew out on Christmas Eve to see him. Our first ever trip to the US. Me, a v excited 9 year old who when we arrived would not go to sleep because of the time difference and wanted to wait up for Father Christmas. My mum gave up at 2am, shoved the stocking into my room with a "surely you know he doesn't exist by now?". I didn't :(

mig yes to the short sharp shock, i think its a european thing,to be truthful with kids at a young age,

mignonette · 09/09/2013 18:24

OH GOD Shop. That wins hands down....Sad....

AmberNectarine · 09/09/2013 18:31

On the colours thing there is a lot of wisdom in the mixing of textures. A lovely fuschia silk shell top with beautifully cut black wool cigarette pants worn with stylish accesories is a very different proposition to a polyester ensemble from next worn with black ballet flat by an unimaginative office worker!

Thanks for comments re the blog. I really do love those tops, they feel gorgeous.

santamarianovella · 09/09/2013 18:34

shop not on x mas eve! you must have been gutted! poor you!
i have another! 6 weeks post c-section, my mum said "santa! you really need to start doing sit ups, your tummy is flappy!
she is an amazing loving ,gentle mother, but very critical,i think she regrets it sometimes, but not always!

i have two my-wardrobes codes and cant find any boots or knitwear that i like, the one boot i liked iro is soldout! i might give customer service a call and ask if it will get back in stock.

LinusDKD · 09/09/2013 19:19

shop santa those are horrible memories! My DP are European were very strict parents when I was a child but they never did anything like that.

liberty poor DD! I have three of the DC's favourite cuddly toy just in case we lose one of them or to replace one in the middle of the night after DS has been sick on it .

anni I love that burgundy coat!

one DH and the DC also have their first cold of the season.

grumpy I love your Massimo Dutti purchases. It's one of my favourite High Street brands.

dry well done on tracking down those lovely Dune boots.

Today I wore my Jimmies, a white long sleeved Splendid tee, cobalt Esprit jumper and my yellow Nano. It was 23 degrees but a cold wind made it feel quite chilly.

So, today was day 1 of the fast diet and it has been ok so far. I do miss having my glass of Wine at night but I'll try not to think about it.

DH is traveling again Sad. This is the third week in a row and he's also traveling the next two weeks. So much for 'only every other week'!

GrumpyOldHorsewoman · 09/09/2013 19:27

My mother is of the 'tell it like it is' variety also. Once, when I was about 14 and wallowing in a pit of self-pity and bemoaning my 'ugliness' my darling mother's consoling words were "You're not ugly......you're just very, very plain".

Good job we know her or we could think her insulting!

mignonette · 09/09/2013 19:34

DH's Mother is like this. She'll jab people in the stomach (including some of her very young GCand GGC) and tell them they are getting fat. So I give her a dose of her own medicine and tell her she's looking porky and is very ill mannered. She shuts up now.

Annianni · 09/09/2013 19:39

I meant Kent, not Essex...

everything south of Birmingham looks the same to me

LinusDKD · 09/09/2013 19:48

Oh when it comes to weight DM doesn't hold back.

She'll first say 'you've put on weight' and then say 'hello' when she sees me. Hmm

GrumpyOldHorsewoman · 09/09/2013 20:19

Linus I thought all mothers did that! (Except MIL, who sees nowt but good in her entire family even the shitty ones)

shopafrolic · 09/09/2013 20:27

Oh - don't feel sorry for me! It's what's made me the hard faced bitch I am today! Grin And I got to watch ET in the USA 3 months before my friends back home did so it's all good.
Amber I now have three Rosemunde tops with the lace at the bottom which I wear only for layering. They wash really well on the handwash cycle in laundry bags, and because they don't have side seams, they don't twist. Just fab - and a great range of neutral colours.
Dull shopping news today is that 2x J Crew tees in black have arrived to add to my basics for AW - one round neck, one v neck. And I succumbed to ordering the orange Sam Edelman Gable sandals - completely weather inappropriate, but I wore my yellow ones so much this summer it seemed rude not to.

Linus sending you my sympathies on the travelling DH. Hope the diet goes okay for you - I'd be rubbish at fasting and faint if I miss lunch!

QueenCadbury · 09/09/2013 20:41

grumpy I found this pin earlier and thought of you in your oasis skirt.

I think people that comment on weight are so rude. A lot of my issues with constantly weighing myself and feeling fat stem from a rude registrar I once worked with telling me I was fat. I'd just started going out with dh so in that stage of going out for lots of meals and drinking lots so I'd out on about half a stone but hardly fat. bastard.

needastrongone · 09/09/2013 21:07

Ah, understanding mothers! Once, on questioning why there are 12 and 11 years between my DB's and myself I was told I was 'a mistake', and, after having a miscarriage 'well, nothing really bad has happened to you so far, has it?'. Luckily my MIL is amazing and fantastic Smile

mignonette - I doubt DH would dare ask the assistants anything, he's rather a wuss asking for advice but I will give it a go! You are very 'up' on scents and I shall we noting your recommendations as DH has a few trips coming up.

Thanks santa too.

grumpy not sure I like you alerting me to the Massimo Dutti site, have ordered the following two dresses. Smile Only concern is how long they are on me as I am very short.

dress

another dress

Also taken a punt on two tartan skirts from Next but will need to see them in RL before deciding

Drywhiteplease · 09/09/2013 21:30

Amber how very DARE you..."polyester ensemble from Next.....unimaginative office worker"...... stomps off in a huff cuddling non polyester black trousers and 100% merino wool pink jumper

shopafrolic · 09/09/2013 21:31

My new lovely laptop has wiped a load of phone numbers from my BlackBerry when I synced it. Can I ask any of the lovely MNV fashionistas who had PM'd me their mobile number to please send it to me again? Sorry!

Nice dresses Need. I'm trying to rein myself in a bit, but self denial has never been my strong suit. Good job DH is away racing all day tomorrow, I have a feeling it may be a day of many parcels.

QueenC lovely pin - I like the way she's styled it all - so simple but well put together. Love the shoes but I'm rubbish in heels, never mind skimpy sandal heels. They look lush with the skirt though - wish I could wear them.

Drywhiteplease · 09/09/2013 21:34

Wink only kidding....hee hee

Shop I love Santa (sorry, I love you too Santa but I was referring to The other one!)....that's horrid.
My (French) mother had a way of always pointing out spots "you have a huge spot on your nose dear!" Yes, thanks for that.

DH's cantankerous grandmother at SIL wedding....observed very loudly, as the bridesmaids were walking down the isle, that one had a large derrière ... Announcing at the top of her voice " what a huge bottom!" Shock

OneLittleLady · 09/09/2013 21:38

shop is it ok if I send you my mobile number prior to the MU? Would like to be able to be contacted in case I get lost somewhere in the depths of London Grin

Drywhiteplease · 09/09/2013 21:40

Who was it who said if Marilyn Monroe wore flats shed wear the khaki dress I bought with animal slippers and opaque tights?

Advice again .....the taupe suede boots I've bought....if I were wearing with skirt/dress what colour tights? ( please don't say beige...I bought some cable knit ones and they make me look like Miss Marple!)

BrandyAlexander · 09/09/2013 21:48

Hello everyone! Am in the US. Have just nipped into Ann Taylor's. v disappointed. Just having a food break the will nip into J Crew. This isn't my real shopping time, just an unscheduled stopGrin however dh (who occasionally lacks a sense of proportion) and I had a mini row about money yesterday (before I left) as he says I have to reign it in. Killjoy.

mignonette · 09/09/2013 21:48

Needas I think we might be eyeing up the same Next tartan skirt. I went into a local branch to look for it but of course they haven't got it. And I can't be arsed to order it. I bought a pair of black wedge pumps here and they are probably the most yawn inducing shoes I have ever bought. I may return them.

AmberNectarine · 09/09/2013 21:49

Dry I obviously wasn't talking about you! Just the c.10,000 badly dressed people I see on the tube every day.

mignonette · 09/09/2013 21:49

Waves @ Novice. Wish I was there.
