I know Amber... I agree with what you said though....I guess it's all about styling.

mignonette · 09/09/2013 21:53

The best office worker look is that of Maggie Gyllenhaul in 'Secretary'. Minus the mouth gag and yoke Grin.

Drywhiteplease · 09/09/2013 21:54

for Mig's cold feet

santamarianovella · 09/09/2013 21:54

shopafrolic · 09/09/2013 21:54

Boo MrNovice! Happy shopping lady x
One I have deliberately picked a really easy venue for you to get to from Kings Cross. Piccadilly Line westbound to Covent Garden (takes approx 10 mins). Go to Streetmap.co.uk and key in the postcode of the restaurant and you can print out a map to get from the tube. So straightforward. My mobile number was on the PM I sent to people so any issues on the day you can get in touch.

Or these Mig Grin

Drywhiteplease · 09/09/2013 21:57

Mig look!

OneLittleLady · 09/09/2013 21:58

Cheers shop I've been google mapping how to get to the venue so I have a rough idea of where I'm going now. I'm nervous at the best of times so I feel very brave going to London alone! It will be a whole new experience for me as I've only ever been with people really familiar with London before. I must find a sweet shop BTW as DS has requested 'cool sweets' I have been told that Cybercandy is not far from where we are going so may have to stop of there for supplies! Grin

mignonette · 09/09/2013 21:58

DH finds them eerily erotic dry...I merely covet them. My feet are sooo cold.

santamarianovella · 09/09/2013 22:02

amber i once visited dh in his old office in the city, not everyone dressed that bad! very conservative ,but i think that is expected .

mig i think thats where El JAMES got her inspiration for 50SOG

santamarianovella · 09/09/2013 22:04

the movie not the fluffy slippers Grin

mignonette · 09/09/2013 22:05

Santa I loved 'Secretary*. Thought it was superb. Loved everything about it, the set design, clothes styling, MG's acting. Kind of Prada-esque clothes w/ all the Pussycat bows and Fugliness.

Drywhiteplease · 09/09/2013 22:06

But santa there are a lot of women in poly black wide legged/shapeless trousers and random tops out there. Think it's the typical "business wear" outfit.....I'm not talking big corporate, but "smart" work wear......

shopafrolic · 09/09/2013 22:10

One I'm sure you'll be fine

I will be shop I will be brave Grin

Is it wrong to buy the same dress in two different colours if the dress suits you? It's only a cheap little dress from Primark but it's exactly right for me and I have the deep red but saw it's also in forest green and wondered about getting it as well?

santamarianovella · 09/09/2013 22:16

i agree dry some people just dont care, and would rather have a "uniform" . some women still think that it gives a good impression if they dont dress too fashionably,

Annianni · 09/09/2013 22:16

Burgundy coat has been ordered.
If it's not nice, then I'm stuck as all the others I like are mega money.

mignonette · 09/09/2013 22:16

There's an interesting argument that non conspicuous dress in women in the work place has the same function as it did w/ men. The whole 'Notice what I say and do, not what I look like' philosophy. Especially prevalent w/ American corporate women IMO.

Annianni · 09/09/2013 22:17

I buy lots of things in different colours One.

mignonette · 09/09/2013 22:18

One If it's an item of clothing that is an absolute winner and really flatters, I'd buy as many as I could afford. How many of us mourn a 'deceased' item that fit and flattered us perfectly and is irreplacable?

OneLittleLady · 09/09/2013 22:20

Mig it also helps me keep a fuller wardrobe as at least if my sister pinches one colourway, I have another to fall back on! I just worry about looking cheap IYKWIM and like I have no fashion sense because I wear the same things repeatedly

shopafrolic · 09/09/2013 22:21

One spend the money on a padlock for your wardrobe instead - problem solved!

shopafrolic · 09/09/2013 22:24

I have bought the same thing before now in another colour, but usually the original colour gets worn the most, the second choice usually doesn't feel as good.

needastrongone · 09/09/2013 22:24

If you feel fabulous in the dress then I reckon buy the green too and feel pleased you have found a little gem in Primark rather than breaking the bank.

I have a slouchy slub dress in grey boucle from Next, which looks nothing either on the hanger or onl

needastrongone · 09/09/2013 22:27

Or online, I ordered a rust coloured one too but returned it thinking I couldn't have two of the same, stupid really as I think I will live in the grey dress for everyday, quiet, midweek type days.

Sorry, on my phone and clumsy, pressed post inadvertently.
