I may try that, I've a little time before my appointment dry so it could be worth going in armed with as much info as I can give them.

Drywhiteplease · 06/09/2013 21:29

Shop this is the dress I have it in khaki, Zalando stock it, it's a dark khaki though. Comes up small. I took a med. it would look great with your spirals. I need to think about my footwear.

shopafrolic · 06/09/2013 21:37

That's lovely Dry

one no one can live on 800 calories a day! its too extreme, can you get another opinion?

GrumpyOldHorsewoman · 06/09/2013 21:42

Anni I owe you a huge bunch of Flowers! That is exactly what I had in mind. Now I just hope something doesn't crop up and spoil my plans.

Sleep DD is almost 10. She loves food, eats almost no crap and I am a decent cook so we eat well and nutritionally, but she will pinch food (slices of ham, chunks of cheese, slices of bread) and is pretty fat around the middle especially. We don't have things like biscuits/crisps etc in the house because she's a runaway food train. She swims once a week and does 3 hours of Stagecoach at weekends, but has quit almost everything else we've tried as she's essentially lazy, which I suspect is the main problem. I don't want her to have negative body image but equally I don't want her to go to secondary school in 2 years and get bullied for being heavy. We live in a pretty affluent place and it seems all the girls at the secondary school are of the flippy hair, short skirted and ultra-skinny brigade. I don't want her to be like that and I don't want her to be the chunky kid they make fun of either. I just want her fit and healthy.

OneLittleLady · 06/09/2013 21:53

Love that dress dry alas, I am not the right shape for it but I shall admire from afar

Drywhiteplease · 06/09/2013 21:54

Grumpy it's so hard, I really sympathise. If you say something you might give her a complex, if you don't someone else might. We eat like you but dd does a lot of sport. It's o easy for kids/teens these days to be so sedentary...my two are plugged into things for hours a day.....but it's counterbalanced by sport. DS wants to bulk up for his rugby Shock don't think I can feed him any more!!!

santamarianovella · 06/09/2013 22:04

grumpy its very tricky,my mum was very critical about what i ate as a teenager, but she did it out of concern,it certainly had an impact on my eating habits ,but in a good way,dry makes a very important point, just one tiny remark can backfire,it seems that now days there are two extremes, and you dont want her to be apart of either,

GrumpyOldHorsewoman · 06/09/2013 22:05

I know! We are a very active family, but everything we do she has to be dragged into. I kick her outside whenever possible, but we are extremely rural and she gets bored with no company, so just mooches about. I wish I had more time to do stuff with her, but tbh she moans about everything we do anyway.

GrumpyOldHorsewoman · 06/09/2013 22:07

Sorry santa, x-post.

Drywhiteplease · 06/09/2013 22:10

Grumpy don't beat yourself up...if mine are anything to go by, they really don't want to do much stuff with me.....god forbid we suggest a walk!!! Just want to face time friends, go on You tube, do stuff with friends........

Drywhiteplease · 06/09/2013 22:12

And....Grumpy kids do change shape .DS was a stocky little boy, then puberty hit and up he went...now he looks thin will never be lanky . DDs shape had changed too.

santamarianovella · 06/09/2013 22:18

its a good thing that even when she overindulges, its still healthy food and not the over processed crap.

GrumpyOldHorsewoman · 06/09/2013 22:21

You're right Dry. I figure if I keep doing what I'm doing, she'll level out eventually. At least I'm not in denial - we are addressing the issue.

Anyway, enough of this! We're here for fashion. What do you think of this snuggly little piece? Am I just being lured by the autumnal weather today?

GrumpyOldHorsewoman · 06/09/2013 22:22

Thanks santa Smile

GrumpyOldHorsewoman · 06/09/2013 22:26

snuggle snuggle snuggle

OneLittleLady · 06/09/2013 22:29

I like the poncho one grumpy but I'd worry that the roll neck combined with the wide shape would make me look block like. I shall live my roll neck life through you fine ladies Grin

libertychick · 06/09/2013 22:36

It's very difficult Grumpy. I have a 15 year old sister who has put on a lot of weight recently. A woman I work with (a public health specialist) says the key is finding out what really makes the young person tick ie what do they love or have a real passion for and find ways to develop that - her theory is that finding what you are passionate about and good at develops personal worth and confidence and this inevitably means that people are more motivated in every area including self care such as eating well and exercise. My sister is a fantastic singer so I have paid for extra lessons and already it's helping as the voice coach has told her that fizzy drinks and chocolate are bad for her voice so she has cut them out. He has also told her that getting physically fit will help her lungs and therefore her voice and lo and behold she has been to the gym 4 times a week for the last two weeks - it might not last but it seems to support my colleagues theory so far.

libertychick · 06/09/2013 22:39

Lovely Hush stuff Grumpy makes me almost wish for cold weather!!!

Decam I am way behind with links - which Burberry coat are you considering?

GrumpyOldHorsewoman · 06/09/2013 22:43

Thanks Liberty - all good advice!

Does anyone know where I can buy Velvet Rope Lipstick apart from Space NK? Whenever I try to order the shade I want it keeps defaulting to a different one.

OneLittleLady · 06/09/2013 22:52

Hmph, I have just discovered that my sister has pinched my candy apple lipbutter! She doesn't even like reds, or so she says! It's like being 16 and finding out she's swiped my eyeliner all over again!

Drywhiteplease · 06/09/2013 22:55

Good point Liberty . This worked with DS....everything is good for his rugby.....now he wants to bulk up thoughShock

I love both Grumpy

Gosh I'm chuffed , I saw these boots online and fell in love but sadly sold out in my size Sad have just found and ordered them Grin my motto "seek and you shall find" has been proven again! Yey!
Have had a bad month really haven't I?
I've bought;
this jumper
this jumper
these shoes
this skirt
this dress
these boots

Have bought and returned;
these shoes
Cos merino skirt
this dress

My very good friend gave me a serious talking to and said I should return blue skirt and get it in the sale. Sensible advice, I'm not very good at waiting though Sad

Am I very bad? This thread makes me feel normal though Grin

And why is it that, just when you think your wardrobe is complete, there's something else you need? And then something else to go with it? Etc etc?

OneLittleLady · 06/09/2013 22:57

I am always in need of new wardrobe items dry because my sister takes off with half my clothes! She'd rather spend her money elsewhere so when she wants a wardrobe update or something 'new' to wear for a night out, she finds a reason to call in and take a look in my wardrobe. I'm purposely buying her clothes for christmas so that I might get some respite from the constant theft of all my favourite items Grin

libertychick · 06/09/2013 23:00

I thought your shopping this month was excellent Dry!! Love all the colours. I do wonder though why my wardrobe is never complete either. I am trying not to buy ATM as I do need a coat so trying to keep as much cash as possible and I'd like a lovely scarf (although I have loads of wool so I really should knit one).

GrumpyOldHorsewoman · 06/09/2013 23:04

Ah, the perpetual quest, Dry. I know it well...

Love the animal pumps and the Vero Moda dress. If Marilyn Monroe wore flats I could totally see her in that combo.

The R&B shoes are beautiful - why did they go back?
