HoC Autumns

Thought I'd start a thread for autumns as the spring and winters threads seem busy and I feel I'm missing out!

I'm an autumn leaf and going for the style day soon. I haven't bought much this year as only had colours done a couple of months ago and waiting to discover my style before spending. I have been decluttering my wardrobe quite ruthlessly as I had a lot of the wrong colours/tatty clothes.

I did buy some Kettlewell tops and have had a few compliments so I certainly believe that colour analysis works.

Unfortunately my autumn/winter coats are black but expensive so I won't be replacing them for at least a couple of years.

Any suggestions for colourful hats/scarves/gloves to lift the black? High street brands please as I can't get parcels delivered to home.

An 8-10 would be a small at Me&em I think.

I think a long sleeve tee in a contrasting colour could look pretty awesome shop. As it is, I've been adding short round necked cardis that look good - leopard print is favourite at the mo.

Thank you charitygirl I find it quite tough to get petrol coloured things - but I've found that Levi's do a petrolly coloured wash that works quite well for jeans. And last year I got a fab boxy petrol v-neck from Jigsaw - they had quite a bit of autumny stuff last year.

I also found TK Maxx really useful for scarves.

Oops thank you too, shop, sorry I missed your post. Too busy drooling over that dress! Blush

I think I am an autumn, probably a deep autumn. The thing is I dislike nearly all the colours. I was thinking of having my colours done properly and hope that I'd come out as a winter (I love that colour palette) but I know they'll say autumn.

Thanks for starting this thread. I'm a HoC vibrant autumn waves at queenofwhatever.

Since I was done, I've been buying more corals, oranges, reds etc. Worn with khaki/chocolate, they are not as alarming as I'd feared. I'm becoming ever more purist about wearing the right things, as I can see what a difference it makes.

I also went for the style day, which was money well spent, not least for the revelation that I'm short waisted (and large bummed - less of a revelation...). I've now got a much better sense of what suits me.

On reds/mustards, I got a couple of tops in the pure collection sale. The mustard didn't suit me, but the brick red was perfect. They are quite thin, but machine washable, and very good basics.

Boden also had some autumnal coloured cashmere cardis in the sale.

One of the best tips I got on the style day was to set an annual budget for clothes. That way, if you've got a budget each year of, say, £1000, you can spend £250 on a coat and just spend a bit less each month during the rest of the year. Smile

Shopafrolic I have the meandem dress in the same colour, petrol green. The colour is lovely, I'm a dark autumn, but the style is not right. Will return and try the same in a different style.

There are great ruched tops and skirts in the same colour Meganhunt. I just typed petrol green into the search bar and they had lots of items..... It is a great colour for deeper autumns I think.

Thanks for the tip. I love the Aubergine wrap dress, sorry cannot link. I suspect the green is a better colour for a dark autumn though.

Ok I am fairly sure I am an autumn of some description QOW has seen me in RL. DH has very thoughtfully got me a colour consultation but with CMB not HOC for my birthday. I know they use different descriptions so is anyone able to translate once I see the consultant please?

Waves at earwigs, I like the deeper more saturated colours, but they are a bugger to find. Coral and khaki have been a pleasant revelation.

Like the dress shop, but I would look ridiculous in it. Like a toddler wrapped up in a pair of curtains.

Yes msing, I reckon you're an autumn, but tell DH to rebook with HOC. Otherwise we'll be talking at cross purposes when we go shopping, if I'm going on about kingfisher etc.

Excited to see this thread. I am a HoC Blue Autumn. Chocolate and vibrant colours also suit me. The soft ones a bit less so, although cream and coral are good.

I've even had one of my DC diagnosed too! Blush

I find trying to dress well for my lifestyle (SAHM) and post baby body is hard enough without trying to find all the right colours too.

Would be great to find some inspiration on this thread.

These colours threads are taking off!

Limeleaflizard, you're not the only one, think DD1 (only 5! Blush) is autumn, she has soft, warm colouring, light brown hair and dark brown eyes, and looks great in coral, funny greens (to me, I can't wear them) and cream.

I'm a winter so is tricky.

Not figured DD2 out yet, dark-ish ash brown hair, dark blue/grey eyes, cool skin with pink cheeks, can't figure out what colours she suits yet, she's an enigma in general!

Trinny and Susannah used to recommendalot in chocolate colours circa 2001 to 2004 ish !!
You could buy loads of it in shops then.

LimeLeaafLizard · 22/08/2013 23:18

Thanks Loopy glad it isn't just me. DS1 is a soft autumn. The consultant said he should wear 'gold, cream, coral, camel, bronze, mossy greens'. I caught his disgusted expression and asked her if she meant 'army colours' like sand, khaki, mud, and so a compromise was reached!

I think DS2 is a spring and DS3 a vibrant autumn. Still trying to figure DD!

Love that dress shop.

I really want to do a style day but need to wait until baby has appeared and I am more or less back to normal weight, grrr!

I suit the leaf colours and also the teal and kingfisher blue (which I love!) I found a nice t shirt and sweater in a tomato red in GAP the other day. Also khaki and dark brown jeggings in Uniqlo. Topshop do their Leigh skinnies in rust.

Charity I have petrol leather leggings (you don't want to know how much detective work that took!), a dress from once upon a dress, a couple of tops from Wolford, and a couple of things I've had made. It's not the easiest colour to find, but well worth it when you do! I've seen it in Hobbs a couple of times too, but never in my style.

Wombat a Small in Me&Em would be right for you. Am intrigued by Levi's petrol wash, can you link?

Schmalex I would wait for a good few months after giving birth (especially as its your first) before style. It's not to do with body architecture, which your consultant should be able to see beyond any weight gain, but more to do with how your personality changes in the early months with a baby - my answers came out quite differently not long after having DS2, and 'reverted' back to normal after about 9 months. Not sure if that's true for everyone, but seems reasonable, as it's a bit of a change!

MsIngaFewmarbles · 23/08/2013 08:00

Can't change as it's already paid for and I have a voucher. Never mind, I can describe my swatch when I get it

Boden can be good for the petrol andkingfisher colours but dont think there is anything this season really.
Phase Eight did a colour described as 'praline ' a few seasons ago, sort of dark mocha ,which really suited me.

Is me and em jacket a good colour for autumns do you think? It's called ox blood but it looks quite blue toned to me (hard to tell online).

I love this shape though and dithered over the cream one this summer, but pale colours work better for me on bottom half (to do with shape, not colouring)

My absolute best colour is rust/brick, so think this may be too purpley burgundy. If it was free delivery I would chance it!

charitygirl · 23/08/2013 08:31

I am interested in things made hopefully. My consultant recommended a dressmaker but its £500 a jacket which is...distressing. There's no shortage f dressmakers round me but I feel clueless as to how to choose - definitely don't have the time to meet loads of them. So if anyone has a SW London recommendation...

Would love a pair of petrol wide legs for winter. A pair of tan brown mink strap shoes are also on my must have list - very me.

I think it's probably too blue Bill, and since Me & Em is so spectacularly slow at refunds I'd be disinclined to chance it! It is less of an obvious burgundy than some of them though, I would be tempted to chance it too if they were better at returns!

Charity I paid £80 (I think) for a jacket toile, which will then be used every time I want a jacket, then it's about £200 for a jacket, excluding fabric (last one I had made was about £40 for fabric). But I'm in Devon, so far less of a premium than London.

charitygirl · 23/08/2013 08:36

That looks too cool and bright to me, Bill, though agree its a close call.
