HoC Autumns

Thought I'd start a thread for autumns as the spring and winters threads seem busy and I feel I'm missing out!

I'm an autumn leaf and going for the style day soon. I haven't bought much this year as only had colours done a couple of months ago and waiting to discover my style before spending. I have been decluttering my wardrobe quite ruthlessly as I had a lot of the wrong colours/tatty clothes.

I did buy some Kettlewell tops and have had a few compliments so I certainly believe that colour analysis works.

Unfortunately my autumn/winter coats are black but expensive so I won't be replacing them for at least a couple of years.

Any suggestions for colourful hats/scarves/gloves to lift the black? High street brands please as I can't get parcels delivered to home.

Oh that's gorgeous Wombat. Very inspiring. I love purple too, another colour which has been a bit out of favour for a couple of years.

buildingmycorestrength Your link only works when I paste it. Trying it again. I've got a light scarf like that I wear basically every day in autumn and spring, could definitely use more colours.

I dont know yr style Wombat, but I've just bought a fab stretchy midi dress in perfect autumn purple from River Island - £22. I wore it bare legged w sandals, but am planning tights and biker boots in the winter - its long sleeved.

If you are an autumn (I think I am- pale but can tan a bit green eyes and dark brown hair. Looks dreadful in light grey, lemon, pink. Looks better in navy and browns, teal, green in general)
What colour winter coat are you buying?

Anyone else bought a coat?

Geek I have these winter coats:

Camel wool swing (maternity actually but the style really works for me still) Looks best with skinny/slim leg trousers.
Teal wool dressy coat from Hobbs. A few years old but still in perfect nick and I wear with dresses, skirts and wide legs as it's very neat fitting.
Mustard cropped wool jacket/coat by a Danish brand I think. I love this one but it has elbow length sleeves so more for autumn. Looks fab with a long sleeved striped top under.

Also the ubiquitous waterproof Merrell coat.

Love those pinterest boards, really inspiring especially now I've had my style day and have to up my game from scruffy to luxurious relaxed glamour Shock.

As a start, I've just ordered a chocolate brown cashmere/merino cardigan from woolovers. Wasn't sure if any of their other colours were suitable for autumns.

Anyone know how to use belts as accessories rather than just to hold trousers up? I need soft curved ones apparently. I've got a couple of longline cardigans I'd like to wear with a belt.

I'm making a list of what I need to get this autumn/winter. I'm going to try to make a pinterest board. All suggestions welcome.

Colourful leather gloves. I like these. But a bit expensive.
Hat and scarf: no idea. Anyone got a kettlewell scarf?
Loungewear/pjs: everything I've seen is grey, black or pastel
Dressing gown: current fuchsia one doing me no favours
Belts
Skirt: fine cord below knee, brown, teal or olive/moss, not straight

I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed but keen to make changes as I know I'll end up looking and feeling better.

Seri77 once upon a belt (can't link from phone) is meant to be good - it was recommended at my style day, and there's a ginger obi one I've got my eyes on. I've just ordered a couple of double wrap temperley belts that were in the JL sale. There's also a shop (Eliot Rhodes I think) in covent garden (possibly online too) where belts and buckles are interchangeable, so you can buy two belts and two clasps and then have four belts Smile

Elliot Rhodes also have a branch in London at St CHristopher's Place just off Oxford Street too......

Baukjen have a wrap belt in great autumn colours. It is £69! But I can vouch for the quality, I have a brown one from previous years.

Seri77 · 27/08/2013 18:28

Wombat I love the Baujken belt in mustard and teal. Might ask for it for Christmas if I can identify something to wear it with, a dress perhaps.

I did try putting a belt over a long cardigan today. I looked lumpen. Maybe the cardigan was too bunched up as its a waterfall style. I will try again with a slimmer cardigan.

Was also looking at brown and green boots. These look good as do these.

Those Elliot Rhodes belts are lovely, but eye-wateringly expensive. That's more than I spend on a winter coat or pair of boots!

I was in town today and had a look at Red Herring based on the recommendations here. They had some nice stuff at pretty good prices. My only hesitation is the quality of the fabric, I didn't get the sense that some of the stuff would wear that well. But some nice basic tops and trousers.

I also had a quick look round M&S, as I live in eternal hope that they will start doing decent clothes again. I realised that the reason I'm always drawn to their Indigo collection is because the colours are great for autumns. Unfortunately the clothes are just so bland, even for a conservative dresser like me.

M&S did have some great autumn colour tights though. I've bought the three-pair Mulberry Mix before, and they last really well and are good value.
