HoC Autumns

Thought I'd start a thread for autumns as the spring and winters threads seem busy and I feel I'm missing out!

I'm an autumn leaf and going for the style day soon. I haven't bought much this year as only had colours done a couple of months ago and waiting to discover my style before spending. I have been decluttering my wardrobe quite ruthlessly as I had a lot of the wrong colours/tatty clothes.

I did buy some Kettlewell tops and have had a few compliments so I certainly believe that colour analysis works.

Unfortunately my autumn/winter coats are black but expensive so I won't be replacing them for at least a couple of years.

Any suggestions for colourful hats/scarves/gloves to lift the black? High street brands please as I can't get parcels delivered to home.

Ooh those jeans are perfect onlysettleforbutterlies. Wonder if they'd work for me, I'm 5'8 ish...

onlysettleforbutterflies · 22/08/2013 16:25

I would say they were about 31inch.

Oh shame :( still, I guess it proves they are out there to be found!

Do you reckon Liz Hurley is an Autumn? I have been trying to diagnose myself and have similar colouring to Liz (don't have her looks or figure unfortunately).

Maybe celticclan. here she is looking pretty awful in pink

Much better here in brown (sorry for depressing bikini shot)

Her blue eyes put me in mind a bit of spring though...

I like those trousers only, and they seem a good price. Red Herring is not somewhere I would normally look, but I'll be near a Debenhams next week.

Oxblood is not a colour for me, so another AW of being off trend.

You are right she definitely doesn't do pink! There is a photo of today in the Daily Mail online wearing emerald green and she looks stunning.

Who was looking for rust coloured jeans? Snap up this sale bargain from Hobbs! I've got them and they're lovely.

I am a leaf autumn too. Had my colours done a few months ago. It's great to find a thread for autumns. A little disappointed with the new stuff in the shop though. The colours appear mostly cool even my favourite shop, Fat Face. Thank you for the links to the jeans in Debenhams. Will check them out when next in town. Have ordered a pair of mustard cords and a top in the same colour from Boden this afternoon. Will have to see what they are like.

Wow, georginaw, Toast is an autumn-fest!

Nice dress in the sale:

red and mustard dress

Not in the sale, but I am in love with this coat. Might even go over a bump, what do you reckon?

Oooh I can see this thread is going to be bad for my bank balance. I NEED those hobbs jeans. What is the sizing and length like from there?

Report
charitygirl · 22/08/2013 20:16

I'm 5'8" and a 10-12. Length seems to be about 32 and they're pretty tight on me in 10 but the shop asst said they loosen up after washing.

onlysettleforbutterflies · 22/08/2013 20:25

Thanks charitygirl. I think they'll be too short...maybe I could just wear them in boots..

Toast is fab for autumn colours, am sad that they so rarely do anything in my style! Mostly far too draped and/or straight for me.

I've found that generally surfy type labels (fat face, sea salt, white stuff etc) veer more towards summer colours, but you get the odd autumn thing - their more 'natural' style means they tend to stick to the muted palettes.

I wonder if the reason you can only buy these colours from veh posh shops is that they're not really the fashion colours of the moment? If they were they'd be all over primarni . There was a time around 1997-2002 when virtually everything you could buy in black you could also buy in brown. We need those times to return!

Have cautiously ordered the vanilla Fifties jacket with the 15% code that came today. I'll see what the buttons are like in the flesh. I have an idea of doing a lot of layered pale colours this winter having discovered them to great effect in the summer (always thought pale skin shouldn't wear pale colours before - which was rubbish!)

That's the challenge Hopefully where does an Autumn shop for slightly structured / edgy stuff? (Sent you a PM BTW)

Report
MadBusLady · 22/08/2013 20:45

I have the same problem! I need structure, especially on the bottom half. I look like a bag lady in Toast-type stuff.

I feel a bit unfashionable wearing browns, sadly, so am wearing charcoal grey, navy, teal, khaki, autumny greens. Prob not best. Autumnal oranges suit me but NOT mustards at all near the face.

Hopefully · 22/08/2013 20:53

Structure can be a bit of a challenge at times, but on the plus side, when you find it, hardly anyone has the same look as they've stuck with black!

I shop in:

  • Me & Em
  • Baukjen
  • Bicester village (bought a pair of fab dark olive Burberry trousers and Gerad Darel is also good)
  • the odd expensive thing from NAP, Matches
  • I get a fair bit made by an amazing local dressmaker, especially tailoring, as it's practically the same price as Hobbs etc.

Have to say I"m not the biggest fan of brown. I turn to petrol navy and dark olive a lot more.

Report
shopafrolic · 22/08/2013 20:57

I am v tempted by this maxi

Report
MadBusLady · 22/08/2013 21:02

This is quite interesting hearing what people can and can't do - I can't do navy very well. Love olive/khaki though, that's probably my best colour of all. Suspect I am bordering on winter, which is why black and charcoal grey work better than navy.

I should go and get "done" properly really.

But where do you fiiiiind petrol navy hopefully?? I love it, but it's nowhere, I have a vile pair of too tight jogging bottoms from M&S that I bought simply because they were in the elusive shade.

I agree that I couldn't swop skinny blacks for skinny browns, but skinny olives are a perfect substitute.

LOL shop isn't that just the summer maxi we both have...but with sleeves? I love it tho - my best buy of the summer by a mile.

shop that dress is gorgeous! Wonder how you could layer it...
I am loving lots of the Me and Em layers and dressed actually. What is the sizing like? I am an 8 - 10 usually..

Report
shopafrolic · 22/08/2013 21:11

That's why I want it Charity - it's been one of my most worn items of the summer, so I wanted an AW version. And yes, I know I could stick a long sleeved tee underneath but it won't be the same
