HoC Autumns

Thought I'd start a thread for autumns as the spring and winters threads seem busy and I feel I'm missing out!

I'm an autumn leaf and going for the style day soon. I haven't bought much this year as only had colours done a couple of months ago and waiting to discover my style before spending. I have been decluttering my wardrobe quite ruthlessly as I had a lot of the wrong colours/tatty clothes.

I did buy some Kettlewell tops and have had a few compliments so I certainly believe that colour analysis works.

Unfortunately my autumn/winter coats are black but expensive so I won't be replacing them for at least a couple of years.

Any suggestions for colourful hats/scarves/gloves to lift the black? High street brands please as I can't get parcels delivered to home.

I also really like this scarf which I could get on ebay more cheaply from the states. Tempting.

TheWombat · 24/09/2013 10:10

Mint velvet have some lovely autumn things at the moment. I find it difficult to wear some of their things without looking like a panto principal boy, but I really like:

this teal sweater dress

this faux fur and leather gilet

these khaki skinnies

this pale peach jumper

Damn you, inadequate bank balance :(

Hopefully · 24/09/2013 10:40

Oh, that dress is lovely Wombat.

Umlauf · 24/09/2013 10:48

Hello Autumnals, I am tentatively self diagnosing as an autumn! I look best in greens especially emerald and khaki, and some burgundy/oxblood colours, browns etc, but rubbish in pastels and many blues, although airforce blue works for me.

So with this in mind I'm slowly adapting my wardrobe towards the good colours, and have been looking at some other autumn colours, and was wondering what your opinion on this blouse is? Is it in autumn colours or is it a trick? Thanks!!

snowlie · 24/09/2013 10:57

Whistles 25% off - have bought a load of stuff, none of it will fit but it's definitely enough for the credit card company to have a hairy fit and phone dh! I'm hoping that one of the forest green knitted dresses fit, I really love forest green and it's one of my ** colours.
Just got Zara and Cos to do now and then I'm done with the online shopping binge!

Jigsaw update..Herbert's green skirt is lovely! the blue is nice too but I decided more winter than Autumn....I liked them both and can only keep one. so apart from the lovely green skirt, I'm keeping....
Aubergine dress
Green cardigan
green jumper

Coral slouchy cashmere half price in sale - must have got the last one, as the link has disappeared, first time buying coral and I was surprised by how lovely it was.

Can't decide between Brick red jeans and russet cords
Finally leather bracelet
Navy skinny cords I like these so much, I'm going to order the dark purple too!

So pleased, normally I order loads and no kidding but most of it if not all goes back, this time I have kept about 60%, it's taken a sizeable chuck out of the spree money I've been saving for ages (don't normally shop like this!) but I'm really happy with my purchases, they look like a cohesive wardrobe. Rich and vibrant, not the dull and sludgy Autumn I'd feared.

snowlie · 24/09/2013 11:09

Have my eye on this coat, might have save my pennies or cross my fingers and toes wait for the sale.

snowlie · 24/09/2013 11:17

And these gloves that I obsessed about last winter but couldn't commit to brown because I was convinced I was a winter....I'm hoping they are the warmest gloves in the world as I suffer from very sore cold hands...normally wear ski gloves with merino liners for everyday! I shall stop buying stuff now and go and do something useful... Blush Wink

AutumnLeafMyArse · 24/09/2013 14:17

I had to post this, I just tried this top on from H&M in as near-as-dammit moss green (called khaki green on H&M's website) which is one of my single star/excellent colours for tops and I really felt .... pretty darned good in it Grin

Hopefully · 24/09/2013 14:23

Hurrah! We'll convert you eventually leaf Wink

shopafrolic · 24/09/2013 14:54

Nice one leaf
To feedback on these jeans - they are really gorgeous. Slightly leather look with the coated denim. Too snug a fit for me unfortunately - I have two other pairs of this style in a 31 but for some reason I would have needed a 32 in them. Gorgeous rich colour - would definitely recommend....... they are low rise though so be warned! :)

Hopasholic · 24/09/2013 15:04

Thewombat I love mint velvet clothes and I was afraid I'd never be able to purchase again as so much of their stock is black or grey but very happy to be proved wrong! That dress and the skinny jeans are lovely < other links don't work but it's probable a good thing Grin>

Snowlie I just love everything you've linked, just my cuppa tea. Was it you who posted a thread about those skinny red herring cords? I'm tempted but at 5'4" they might be too long.

I said up thread that there were bargain to be had, this jacket has just arrived from Boden. It's from their summer range but it's definitely ok for Autumn, more mustard than 'gold'

I also got some trousers and a skirt, will link below as my post disappears on my iPad if I open a new tab Confused

snowlie · 24/09/2013 15:17

Thanks hop Can't open the Boden link, look forward to seeing it though. You are right about the sales rack and before I didn't have the confidence to plump for the bright colours in the sale....but now there's no stopping me!

Yes it was me who posted on the Red herring thread. Have just measured they have an inside leg of 30in. And have ordered the red/purple ones with a 10% off code.

An I've just ordered a pair of red Hudson ankle boots with a 20% off voucher. And that's it, I think I may have spent all my pennies, it has been fun though and I'm glad I waited till after I got my colours done, it's given me a whole new way to look at my wardrobe.

Hopasholic · 24/09/2013 15:20

Not to wear together for fear of poonami look but hopefully will work with other colours from wallet Smile

Once again I've achieved a big fat bugger all today, apart from MNetting. Really must get on with the sock & pant mountain which is taking over my dining room. Grin

Hopasholic · 24/09/2013 15:22

Thanks snowlie links should work now, I'd probably get away with 30" so might order in navy, cheers!

fififolle · 24/09/2013 15:58

House of Fraser (Linea) have got some gorgeous jewel coloured tops many with 30% off

evelynj · 24/09/2013 21:54

Love that Boden jacket! Going to have a look round local shopping outlet tomorrow.

Does anyone have any make up recommendations? Particularly lipsticks & blushers?

TIA

shopafrolic · 24/09/2013 22:33

evelynj the lipsticks I wear most are all on here
www.pinterest.com/shopafrolic1/in-my-beauty-bag/
The Laura mercier lipsticks are great day to day neutrals, and the Clinique coal and Burberry red are good for stronger, brighter lips on me.

snowlie · 25/09/2013 08:31

hop that kilt is very cute.... but then I am partial to a bit of tartan. Grin

evelynj · 25/09/2013 09:17

Thanks shopafrolic-love that matt Grey varnish too!

Btw from the look of your basket you would like the micro pedi thing my dh got for my birthday-battery operated foot buffer-really good-£30 off amazon. The soap & glory thing is ok though

Cheers!

BridgeMix · 25/09/2013 10:35

I'm pale with v dark hair, but can't decide if I'm warm or cool... I look terrible in most things! I'm tentatively saying autumn from online things but I seriously can't afford to get 'done'.

Anyway. Coats... what is everyone getting?

TheWombat · 25/09/2013 13:55

I bought a spankingly great red lipstick from the HoC range - it's fab, stays put and not too drying. Not a massive lipstick wearer though, so I save it for nights out.

Everyday, I tend to use a Barbara Daly Tesco lip balm pot in a shade called fudge. It's a rusty brick red, but very sheer and well, 'balmy'. And at £4 not likely to be an expensive mistake, so try it!

I struggle a bit with makeup really, especially lips so interested to see shop's Pinterest board. I used to wear pale pink lipgloss which I actually still like on me (tsk). Haven't found a neutral lip gloss I like enough as a replacement for that (Bobbi Brown).

I have quite pale, sallow, yellow toned skin (think peaches and cream but with dark eye bags, spots and freckles), which tans very well in summer. Bobbi Brown is great for yellow skin tones. I like her pot rouge blushes, she does a few peachy ones which you can also use on lips too.

Fififolle those tops looks great. I have a thing for stretchy tops. Wonder how flattering they are, have you tried any on?

BridgeMix - I am a bit stuck with coats. Bought a navy wool coat a couple of years ago which I love - it's not an autumn navy at all but I don't want to swap it yet, it was expensive and I need to get my money's worth. I wont change it until i find another coat that I love at least as much in a good colour - not easy. I also have a tan leather biker from Baukjen which I love, it's soft as butter. And a lighter weight creamy-oyster belted coat which is washable, so very forgiving!

I really need one of those warm down coats for winter (I live in darkest Devon, wellies and fields feature heavily). But I haven't found one that doesn't make me look like I'm wearing a sleeping bag and they are very expensive for something so unflattering!

snowlie · 25/09/2013 14:14

On the subject of coats I have a huge down filled coat in black, it's the warmest thing I own and although it's black, it hardly matters....it's never going to be the most flattering coat anyway and I am loathe to buy another. I have a navy down coat a bit more flattering but no where near as warm - it passes for an autumn-spring coat.

My other parcels arrived today from uniqlo and whistles. I ended up keeping a navy merino polo neck, not sure this is autumn navy - it tones with everything else in my wardrobe though and the colour swatches, green cashmere jumper, teal v neck merino jumper, brown v neck merino jumper and a forest green cashmere knit dress.

Almost done now, just waiting on my red ankle boots, need to find a few pairs of coloured tights and a cardigan - decided to leave the Jigsaw cardigan back as it has ribbed sleeves and had a waterfall tendency when undone.

So plain, basic and warm kind of sums up my whole autumn winter wardrobe...the quest for interesting accessories will be on going.

TheWombat · 25/09/2013 16:27

snowlie those purchases sound fab! How do the merino uniqlo jumpers come up, size-wise? They look like such beautiful colours, but I have long arms.. Hmm
